40 &...

So. Here's the thing: I'm turning 40 this month.

You should know that I have never yet cared about any of my birthdays. I mean, I enjoy my birthdays, but I have never cared about my age. And I had no plans to change that.

When my darling aunt Denise turned 40 a few years ago, I decided that 40 must not be too bad! She is darling and young and vibrant.

But in the last month or so, a little bit of caring has been creeping up on me out of nowhere.

It may have something to do with the fact that I developed symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome and had to get a root canal, all while going to physical therapy 3x a week for my knee treatments. What? I'm 39 and it feels like my body is starting to fall apart!

Right now, I feel like I'm almost 40 & fat, and 40 & a little frightened. But I'm determined to become 40 & fabulous.

At least I'm working on my knees. And I started a diet yesterday (for the first time in about 10 years!!). I'm told that 40 is a great time, a time of rediscovering yourself, having a little more time and freedom to devote to interests/passions that have had to be put on the back burner for, oh, let's just say a very long time.

I can do this. Right??

You're already fabulous! But birthdays are a great time of year for new beginnings.
I turn 28 this month...and I am already freaking out about thirty. I never thought I would say that. But I am. That's embarrassing!
Happy birthday month! :)

Yes you can! You've already done lots of things with your life like raising children, you're very creative, you made Jessie a quilt! You can play piano and you can read like a fiend! You can design your own blog banners. I know the list goes on. If you can do all that you can do even more!
PS: Heavenly Father believes in you!
And so do I.

There are mean girls everywhere. That stinks. Tell her to trip them. (okay...not really...I'll do trip them.)

You are gorgeous, talented, loving and a trillion other great adjectives. You make me feel at peace when I am with you...I can't imagine a better skill. I love you 40 & whatever!

A "few" years ago? You are too generous. I turn 48 at the end of this month--how's that for freakishly close to 50?!

You ARE amazing in so many ways. How exciting to look forward to positive changes in your life!

I guess I must have not been too concerned about 40 because I don't recall it...even 60 didn't really bring much anxiety.

I think feeling the pain of bodily aches is a real bummer. And, it does make one feel old! But, you're not. 40 is really young! I'm excited about your taking the step to loose some weight, I know that will have great effects on your physical and emotional feelings. Dieting is hard, for sure. I've been trying to loose about 10 pounds for months!! What the?! It gets harder the older you get.

As for turning 40...how in the world did I ever get to have a 40 year old daughter?! Oh, dee.

You'll be a beautiful 40 year old to me.

That makes me sad for Eva. You shouldn't experience bullying in Kindergarten! I need to know more about this...
First, I love your new banner so much. I love those colors together. I think I already know the answer to this, but did you arrange all those objects yourself? As in, are all those cool things yours and then you arranged them and took a photo? I thought so. So cool.
You can do it. Look at all your supporters! I agree that birthdays are a perfect time for new beginnings, and I always feel inspired at a fresh start. Consider 40 your fresh start for a new year, a new decade, a new phase, a new you. Throw out all your old notions of what you can and can't do, reevaluate what you really want, and make a fresh start. You'll be so glad you did, and maybe 40 is just what you needed to be able to do it. Cause you can.

You are already beyond fabulous in my eyes! This is where I come for so much of my inspiration. I'm a few years behind you and I'm sure that 40 will come to me with some misgivings, as well..

Great time to have an introspection. You will have it anyway whether you want it, seek it, or not....your body will tell you because there is ADJUSTMENT FOR SURE, It because the time when you say i.e.,THIS NEVER HAPPEND TO ME...etc., etc., i think it all has to do with your attitude. I think if you are attitude is good you can do what ever you set your mind to! So it all depends on you and how you want to receive it! Ditto to everyone.....
I am for sure on a journey to make a better self with Esther's help it is a good thing, to keep motivating each other to improve and conquer--in ALL AREAS OF LIFE, but your mum is right, when you do improve physically, everything seems to fall into place, instead of just being....

Oh my. I feel your pain. I feel 36 and fat, failing, and overwhelmed... that's quite the slogan.

I'm so glad your knees are doing better! I'm interested in the diet... probably only hearing about it, not really doing it.

Everyone does seem to love their 40s so I am guessing they will be good for you too. We need a little Ladies party to celebrate.

I'm alarmed by your comment box blurb. So not right!

I am hoping that 40 ends up being a state of mind and a decade of liberation and being comfortable in our own skin.

Well, in the words of Mark Darcy (via Helen Fielding), "I like you, just the way you are."
