Sunday thoughts

The overriding message that reached me in church today was: turn to the Lord first. Not after you read a book on the subject, not after you drive yourself crazy turning over every nuance of your problem in your mind, and not after you exhaust every other possibility. Seeking help through prayer is not a last resort proposition. Sometimes I need that reminder.

That is such a great reminder! Another DUH moment actually (see my explanation of "Velcro Moment" on Jill's Creative Friday post comments. I didn't stay for our entire meeting block because I had a migraine. . . .

Thanks for sharing this inspiring DUH.

Why IS it that prayer is often a last resort? I need this reminder as well.

Thanks for sharing--

This is so true, and such an important reminder. Why should I wait to pray for help in school when it's crunchtime, when I could pray the whole semester, before every study session and class.

Thanks for sharing this insight!

I have long loved the fabulous advice, "Turn FIRST to prayer". It is a principal that I try to teach my class, whichever one I am teaching, and it has meant a lot to me for years!

Yes, I second your thought.

I really do pray each morning that in my daily work, I will do this, turn first to prayer, when I face decisions large or small that will impact my work, and my life.

I'm so glad you posted this counsel. Thanks.

Is it just human nature to try to take care of everything ourselves and then go to the Lord? You'd think we'd have figured it out after having it happen over and over again.

Isn't it odd that we even need this reminder? Unfortunately I need reminding often...thanks for sharing.

Excellent reminder. So often we try to fix everything on our own, don't we? Thank you for your Sunday thoughts, read gratefully by me on Monday.

This is a great reminder. Although sometimes I wonder if Heavenly Father doesn't want to say, "Enough already! Go figure it out!" I'm sure not but you know... sometimes the easy thing to do seems to be to fall to my knees and beg.

I was thinking what Amie said...and what i read on Jill's post about having the challenges made for US because he already knows what we are going to do. That just fascinates me. I think sometimes I do go to the Lord first, but I am not paying attention or saying THINE WILL BE DONE and not mine.....thank you for this sweet post. And all the comments like your mum said in another post from someone else....very wise your mum!

During the first 3 months of both of my girls lives, I prayed about everything because it was all so new and I was trying to deal with it all. It was such a comfort and why I don't still seek that comfort everyday is beyond me. I need this reminder too!

I swear I am going to stop commenting in mass form. I have been reading but not taking the time to comment. You just have such great thoughts that deserve more than a fly by comment!
