Sunday thoughts

I went to Time Out For Women this weekend with Mim and Michelle. I had had a crazy day on Friday, a crazy week, actually, so it was a bit hard for me to force myself to go to Salt Lake, but of course it was so worth it. (I knew it would be worth it, so I did it. But I did experience a tiny bit of dread. I will learn one of these days.)

On Friday night, we heard from Brad Wilcox, Hilary Weeks, and Sheri Dew. Yesterday, we heard from Jericho Road, Stephanie Nielson, Emily Watts, S. Michael Wilcox, Wendy Ulrich, and Laurel Christensen. My Sunday thoughts are likely to be taken from these addresses for the next little while.

I'm going to start with Sheri Dew:

  • If we hope for our young women to become women of God, they need to see what women of God look like—in us.
{She told a story of planting 30-40 new perennial plants, then waking up early the next morning and discovering that they were all uprooted. She had been vandalized a couple of weeks previous, so she called the police. The police came and discovered that the culprit was the 6-year-old girl next door!}
  • How deep are your spiritual roots? how long have they been planted? have they been watered? nourished? If we are not spiritually rooted, Satan can wreak havoc with us.
  • What do the things about you that no one can see look like? your faith, your courage, your heart?
  • We tend to pay way more attention to what's on the outside than what's on the inside.
  • Some things are just more important than others. What we choose to fill our minds with is far more important than what is on the outside. The inside is the most important.
  • Elder Holland said that whatever he is in his life, he owes to two women: his mother and his wife. Are we taking advantage of the huge influence that we can have?
  • We all suffer earthquakes and aftershocks in our lives. What do we do about it?
{She showed pictures of a bridge in Sydney that she and some other TOFW presenters had climbed together, and then spoke of what she learned from the experience.}
  • If you want to see that spectacular view, you have to make the climb. When we don't progress, there isn't enough medication in the world to make us feel happy about our lives!
  • It is so much better when we do it together. When we link arms, it propels us upwards.
  • We were completely safe because we were tethered. The only tether that will take us safely home is to be tethered to Jesus Christ. We need to think about him more, learn about him, and then we will naturally want to follow him and be more like him.
  • Every spiritual privilege is available to us, if we will seek after it and give it priority.
  • There is no way to measure or limit the power and influence of righteous women.
Her talk was fabulous; I really wish my notes could do her justice.

It is so hard to do good things some times, isn't it? I'm so glad you went. What an inspiring line up of teachers.

I'm so glad you went to this! Now you can share it with all of us :)

These notes are fantastic- I think I should write them on my hand so I can look at them all day--- but then I discourage that kind of behavior in my kids... Still- I really need the reminders.

I saw that you commented on Laurel Christensen's blog. She is a friend of mine and I love her.

I might have told her to stop by your blog because I adore you and it...so don't be surprised if she does.

I am so happy you went to the SLC TOFW. I was there with the other TOFW 2012 Team Leads from around the USA. I am the Team Lead for the Orlando TOFW event.
I wish I had remembered to coordinate meeting you there!
We travel in the same circles, but rarely meet in person.
It was a fabulous experience to hear the messages of hope, encouragement, and light.
