Max and I went to a meeting tonight. The Young Men's presidency held something akin to a YW New Beginnings night, where they passed out calendars, talked about the Duty to God program and Scouting, told us about a new online tracking system, expressed their excitement about working with the boys, and just generally were super-organized and helpful. (And, they even served brownies afterward.) I was so impressed!
This new presidency was called while we were in Paris, so this was the first time I had heard some of them speak. I came away feeling like Max and all of our young men are in very capable hands. And that I have a lot of work to do at home to help him get and stay on top of everything. Good thing I am re-dedicating myself to planning!
Some highlights:
- Just because something is good is not sufficient reason for doing it. We need to seek out the best things to do with our time.
- We ought to provide spiritual experiences whenever possible.
- A good process will create good outcomes.
- We have a closing window of opportunity in being able to spend quality time with these teens.
- We do hard things in Scouts, because missions are hard. Parenthood is hard. Jobs are hard. Life is hard.
"Give me a young man who has kept himself morally clean and faithfully attended his Church meetings. Give me a young man who has magnified his priesthood and has earned the Duty to God Award and is an Eagle Scout. Give me a young man who is a seminary graduate and has a burning testimony of the Book of Mormon. Give me such a young man, and I will give you a young man who can perform miracles for the Lord in the mission field and throughout his life." -- Ezra Taft Benson

A good YM program is so important!
I love this. My boys have benefitted so much from programs like this. I love that max has capable leaders- soon Lucas will be there too!
How cute will Eva look in dance class! So fun!!!
I love that your stake had this program! Sounds like you have great leaders!
I loved the quote about doing hard things! I am constantly telling my boys - YOU CAN DO HARD THINGS... so true!
Wow, I am so impressed that they did this! I was just thinking yesterday that I wonder why the YM don't do something like New Beginnings. I know that great leadership like this will have a huge impact on these boys' lives!
Our ward has excellent leadership in our YM organization and our scouting program, I just hope they'll be in for awhile after Landon goes in this August!
I am incapable of commenting because I had a maudlin night yesterday, thinking how my kids will never be little again:(
I got your chhery card Saturday! You made my day! And I totally WILL take you up on the invite to learn artisan bread at the side if the master...
What a great meeting. I never actually heard of this and I'm thinking it's because they expect the boys to get this through scouts.
love this, "just because something is good is not sufficient reason for doing it. We need to seek out the best things to do with our time." I need reminders of this as I attempt to be better at time management. thanks.
That is such an amazing quote from Pres. Benson! I am going to copy it for Blake. This new pres seems really great.
I love the highlights especially. I really want to print that quote and frame it for James' room. I love it!
If they were planning on doing more than play basketball each week, I would have been impressed...but this, WOW! They have set the bar high!
I like this thought the most, 'A good process will create good outcomes.' So powerful and true.
