last day of school!

I'm having quite a hard time grasping that the school year is really over -- this was definitely the fastest one yet! And since we'll be going on Study Abroad again in the fall, my kids won't be going back to school until January. You can bet there is much celebrating going on around here.

Thanks to Shauna's great idea, I was able to quickly pull out a personalized gift for Lucas's teacher (which was very fortunate since I forgot to pursue the ideas last night!). Lucas helped me to come up with the words, and it only took me about half an hour to make it. I already had a frame on hand, so it was free! Lucas was very pleased, and I hope his teacher liked it.

I took the kids to a matinée of Up, which opened today. Eva has been wanting to see it since she first saw a preview a couple of months ago, but yesterday she said she didn't want to go, since she doesn't like movies about people. Huh. Marc informed her that it has a funny dog with a collar that allows it to speak (kind of like Martha Speaks, but different...), and so she deigned to see it after all. And then she spent the first 1/4 of the movie asking when the dog with the collar was going to make an appearance.

I liked it more than I expected I would, and it was a fun way to start off summer vacation.

I wasn't feeling well this afternoon, so I went to lie down on my bed for a little while. I could hear Eva playing with her dinosaurs on Max's bed while he was doing some programming on his computer. Later, she colored at the table while Lucas was doing something else nearby. She is never content to do things in tandem like that with me! I think it bodes well for our joint summer happiness.

I am loving having them home already.

This is such a sweet post. I always love to think about how my mother loved having us home in the summer. She was never one of those moms that complained when we weren't in school...and she was sad to see us go in the Fall.

I really love that teacher gift...it would make a wonderfully thoughtful gift for just about anyone, too...

I was laughing at Eva obsessing over when the dog was going to make an appearance...this kind of fixation goes on in our house as well...

I'm looking forward to seeing this show with my kids...

I'm surprised your kids are out of school so early!

Except for swimming lessons, I'm trying to keep this summer as non-scheduled as possible...I think this will help me to enjoy it more than last summer...

The picture with you and your boys is adorable...

I can only imagine the delight a boy would feel knowing he didn't have to go to school until January!

The teacher gift is awesome!

Eva is so funny. I watched the midnight showing of UP and loved it. Oh man. I can't wait to go back and take Mya- did you see it in 3D? So worth the extra $2.50

I hope this summer features more of the co-sibling tandem Eva time and more solo time for you!

what a great post. and those hands- those are the hands of the cellist, right? i always love to see the hands of musicians- and surgeons. they have distinct hands. (i know- i'm obsessed- i blame my grandmother who was always obsessed with determining her grandchildren's professions by their hands).

i am feeling much more peaceful knowing kellen is home for the summer with me...if only we can keep from killing each other.

I can't believe the school year is over already either! Your kids missed so much school this year it's a wonder they can move up a grade! It's a good thing they're geniuses!

Your teacher gift turned out great, I'm so glad Shauna shared that idea.

I love that teacher gift and only wish I would have had such a good idea! I used to make great end-of-year gifts, but with Sarah's teachers it seems like I'm always running a day late and a dollar short.

I want to be one of those mothers who loves summer. I'm working on it.

What's the verdict on Seven Peaks?
