Recently, I took Max to get his haircut, and our stylist exclaimed, "Max! You have a moustache!" I was simultaneously relieved and distressed to find out that I wasn't the only one who saw it. She used the clippers on his cheeks to get rid of all the peach fuzz. What the?
On Sunday, I caught Marc inspecting Max's chin. He looked at me and told me that he was going to have to teach Max to shave. You'd think that I knew this day was coming. I guess I did... just not so soon! I've been a little freaked out, but Max took it all in stride, and even seemed pleased.
He didn't even seem to mind that I was documenting the process.
Evidently, my first baby is hurtling toward manhood. I'm not ready...

YIKES! I am so not ready for this milestone and all that it is encumbered with. I plan to watch and learn from you, sister.
That is scary! I don't know if I'm ready for John to start shaving. I don't think he'd let us take pictures, though. I'm pretty impressed by Max's maturity and support of your documenting endeavors.
On a side note, I miss you and your family. Max's sunburned neck reminded me of Vail and of how much I wish we were all still there.
Love you!
Whoa, that word 'hurtling' scares me a bit. It really is right around the corner even though I only have an 8 year old. I've watched my nephews grow up fast, fast. I'm not ready as a mother either. Love that he was in on the whole documenting process. Great photos for his kids one day.
What a milestone!!
I am impressed that he indulged you in the photo op!
I was so excited when I checked my blog this morning and saw you had commented on like 20 posts. ;)
I will take all the readers I can get!
Wow, already?!?! I am impressed he indulged you with pictures. So crazy Michelle!
lately, i've been thinking about this whole "hurtling" thing. of course, mine is only 8, but lately, his "cute, little" changes seem so much more like milestones.
i am thoroughly impressed with your calmness!!
so cool!
Weird!! And props to Max for allowing documentation--seriously. I don't think John would ever go for that.
Oh my goodness! I can't imagine being in this stage of life...and yet...it is coming quickly!
Whoa! I can't believe it. I don't know if I would cry or giggle or what, if I were you! A big day for Max.
This is an awesome post with the pictures and everything. I also snapped up that word. Hurtle. (And picking up speed as he goes.)
that last line ripped my heart out. i cried when i realized my toddler had turned into a stinky near 5-year old boy. i am going to be a mess when he starts shaving!
i bet max is over the moon, though. seriously. what man child wouldn't be?!
and those pictures are awesome. the image of marc looking on as max shaves...priceless.
I think it's so cool that you documented this process! It's such a huge milestone in a boy's life (and his parents) but rarely gets mentioned or documented (hooray for blogging!). Your pictures of this are great!
I know that you think you are not ready for this (and so many other things) and that certain things freak you out- but you, my sweet friend, have a calmness about you and a way of accepting what life brings that is evident in your posts and in the way your maturing and amazing son follows stride. It is a talent and gift that I wish I could learn.
Scary, indeed! How can it be possible that our little boys are old enough for such manly things?
ohhhhh my goodness....this is a milestone for sure.! That wonderful product would be amazing for legs too?
