good cold fun

Today we went tubing with Marc's family at Soldier Hollow (well, all of us except Marc -- he was at the Sundance Film Festival). Marc and I were concerned about Lucas going, as he's been home sick the last couple of days, and we didn't want the cold to worsen his condition. Marc said, "he can still go sledding around here when he gets better." I said, "hmmm, that's a little like telling you that you can still see movies around here anytime," -- he's sick as well but was still planning on attending 5 screenings today -- and he had to concede the point that it is not the same thing at all. As Lucas was absolutely determined to be well enough to go, I just couldn't crush him by saying no.

We met in Heber for a tasty lunch, then drove over to Soldier Hollow, where everyone got into their snow gear and headed up the hill. It was funny to remember that last year I had to spend the first half hour convincing Lucas to give it a try, he was so nervous. (I finally forced him to give it one try, with the promise that if he didn't like it, he didn't have to ever do it again. Of course he loved it. Without that delay this time, our two-hour block felt much longer.)

Last year I didn't bring my camera, not knowing what to expect. This time, I knew it would work, and documenting the day made it that much more fun for me (this is me riding the tow rope behind Lucas).

Grandpa even tried it out this year!

After the sun went behind the mountain, it got a whole lot colder. The kids were in pretty good shape with their snow gear and hand warmers, but I sure did wish I had some snow pants, as my jeans were good and wet and my bum was most definitely numb.

Eva was playing in the lodge with Grandma, but at one point they came out and she got to try out a teeny tiny tube on the gentle slope at the bottom of the hills. I didn't think she'd be outside much, so I didn't even bring her hat or gloves! Luckily, Grandpa shared his. (When she saw me, she instantly said, "I don't want to go home!" Sheesh, am I that much of a killjoy? I like to think not.)

I'm not sure why Max was getting this special treatment...

We like to hook our tubes together and go down in pairs or groups. I took several videos while we were going down the hill, and while it is kind of annoying to hear me repeatedly whooping, I still enjoy watching what we were doing!

Lucas announced upon our arrival at home that he was no worse for the wear, and I sincerely hope that he's right, because we had a great day in the snow.

This looks like so much fun, I've got to look into doing this. I would definitely appreciate the tow-rope technology.

You look ridiculously cute and fashionable with your polka-dot scarf. Why don't I ever have cute accessories like that? Surely I a cute scarf would fit me.

We did that at Gorgoza in Park City over New Years. It was a blast! How did Marc get so lucky to get to go to 5 screenings at the Film Fest?

Looks like such fun.

On another note... Do you have an Etsy shop? Or specifically do you sell your gift tags?

That looks like so much fun! I do love tubing. Our family went up in Vail one time and had a blast. I'm glad that both you and Lucas were feeling up to going!

I'm really loving the bigger photos option everyone is doing. It's so fun! Your snow pictures made me feel chilly, but it looks oh so fun! I'm glad the sickness was kept at bay long enough for you and Lucas to enjoy the day. Hopefully all that cold, fresh air cleared out the sick germs. You guys are really just due for an extremely overly healthy winter!

I was glad to hear that Charlotte has a memory of tubing, as I was thinking we had never done so and was feeling like a lame, boring parent.

That looks like lots of fun despite the frigid temperature. I love your photos, especially the one of Lucas. You can see it in his eyes that you made the right choice to let him go!

I like all the pics, esp. Grandpa in the snow.

Yes,that Photo of Lucas is worth the trip!

Of course, I am pleased to see you wearing something warm.....are you admitting that you could be a teeny bit cold?! That's saying something.

The video really brings it all to reality. It sounds way too fast! I've never enjoyed things that involve cold, speed, "gear" all at the same time! But, it does sound kind of fun. Glad you went and all the kids had fun.

Too bad you're such a deadbeat..... oh, huh!

Your photography is always so great! How do you get your pictures to post so large? What's your secret?

we need to do this with our kids- besides the fun, clean air!!

this mucky air & weather are really getting to me, a trip up the mountain sounds like a great idea.

I would like tubing so much better with a tow rope!
Your logic comparing tubing and movie going was flawless. You nailed it. Exactly.

I think I liked listening to you giggle down the ride the most. How fun. My sister went and loved it. I think we need to try it out.

Ohh how I miss the festival. While at the U I took the class geared towards Sundance. You had to see a ridiculous number of movies, but I loved EVERY second. I actually got to see Smoke Signals (and hear the q and A afterwards) and Sliding Doors, which was unbelievably cool.

I love your tag- the shivers. Hilarious.

Loved the big, giant pictures. Don't you just love winter fun? It is such a part of my childhood, I can't imagine not having it for my kids.

I LOVE the quote on the header of your blog. Beautiful thoughts!

fabulous photos of what looks like a fun day in the cold.

We have been hoping to do this ourselves, but we've been waiting for it to snow again. Can't believe how long it's been.

You look so cute, and the video is great! This actually makes me want to go sledding, something that I normally don't care for because my butt/back always ends up hurting after. Maybe next year when Kaylee is older!
