This summer has been so crazy-busy, I haven't yet documented Max's thirteenth birthday! Thirteen years ago, he made me a mother.
Way back on June 24th, my first baby entered the world of teenage-dom. (I don't care how old he gets, he'll always be my first baby to me.)
He had a party with some friends at the Space Center. He's not too old for that yet.
He got a new bike, courtesy of Mom & Dad and Grandma & Grandpa Taylor. (They sent him a $100 debit card, and he was so excited!) We ended up getting his bike at Costco. I encouraged him to take it for a spin, much to my family's embarrassment. You can't really tell how cool it is in this picture, but it's a stylin' Schwinn, and he's already gotten a lot of use out of it.
He got some clear playing cards to add to his collection. He's a card fanatic. He also got money, a fractal calendar, and a bunch of science books like The Elegant Universe, a Stephen Hawking collection, etc. You know, just a little light reading.
Marc had the great idea to get prints made of some of Max's grids he made for the Monthly Special. He put them in float frames so that Max can change them out for future great works.
I know he only just turned thirteen, but so far Max gives teenagers a good name. He is great company, he even likes to go on errands with me! He is very helpful to me with Eva, and he doesn't complain when I ask him to do things.
He didn't even complain that I bought him a Boston cream pie at Target. (gasp!) That's been his favorite dessert for years now. The last time I made him one, he said it was good, but not as good as Grandma Charlotte's. It did put a little damper on any subsequent Boston cream pie efforts.
He doesn't like having his picture taken, but he did manage to smile, even with the goofy birthday hat on. I guess he's realized he's powerless to resist a mom who's driven to document.
I love you, Maxman!

I can't believe he's 13 already! How did that happen? He was only 3 when you first moved here (remember meeting at the playground only to find it being dismantled?). It's surreal to see him morphing into a teenager like this. I'm just glad you have to go through it first, ha!
What an epitope of a teenaged boy. With a name like "Max," you can't go wrong. (you know my 9yr old is Max, right?)
The Elegant Universe, hmmmm? Wow. Smartie.
I meant "epitome." Sheesh. I hate spelling errors.
Those floating frames with his collages were a brilliant idea for a gift. I think Max is such an interesting kid!
Wow! I can't believe you've got a teenager on your hands. SOunds like he is a good one though! I can only hope my girls will be good teenagers, and Jared too. :)
Looks like a way cool bike!!
What a great idea to frame his photo grids. I liked them when he posted them, they look great in frames. This is a teenager to be very proud of!! Handsome as well!
Hey I have a newphew named maxx and his brother is guss...isn't that cute...(they are related to you too!) well, the bike is awesome, and riding it in costco even more so...I love riding things in smooth surfaces...hehehehhehehe. He is soo sweet...and yes, 10 years in Utah...wow...I remember when Jill used to talk to me about you all the time...and as I was moving away from Utah you were moving in...wow I am glad i know you now...thanks to her and blogging. You are one of my favorite persons!
Love the photo's framed. Such a good idea, because he knows just how much you appreciate his talent and work.
Happy Belated Birthday Max.
A teenager?! I'm glad you can go through it first and share with us... somehow I don't think Jessica will be the easy going, drama free kid that Max is...
