second favorite project

My other favorite project from Christmas 2007 was a gift I gave to Marc: the 12 Dates of Christmas. I read on a blog last Christmas-time that someone was giving this gift to her husband, and I immediately knew it would be a great gift for Marc, but I also knew I didn't have the time to make it last year, so I stored the idea away for the next Christmas!

I used two sets of gang tags to tell about each date (planned and executed by me, but Marc has veto powers). Then I took a cool old book I found at D.I. called The Creative Mind, so perfect for Marc, and cut out a rectangular hole to place the tags in. Thanks Jill and Hannah for your great date ideas (and to whoever posted about this last year).

He said it was his favorite gift this Christmas!

This looks SO good Michelle! After sending suggestions I decided to just do it now instead of for Valentine's day. It was Linc's favorite gift as well- who knew? Doesn't it feel so awesome to have it to look forward to each month?

My mom gave this to my dad 2 years ago - although she just wrote all of the "dates" on index cards on something. It was really a gift of love because my mom doesn't like to spend $ on dining out, the movie theater, etc but my dad does so this way he was assured of at least one date a month for a year.

Yours is eye candy, I am amazed at your creativity!!

I love gifts like this that are really a gift of time and thought.

Oh my, what a gift! I love the idea, the placing it within a book as well as what Natasha said, "the eye candy" of your tags.

Thanks for posting! What a great idea.

By the way, I got a great idea from your idea yesterday. THANK YOU. I can't wait to do it and tell you about it.

You're so very talented Michelle.

p.s. please post your third and your fourth and your fifth and your sixth and your seventh and your eighth and your . . . .
favorite projects, too!

That turned out so great, Michelle! I can see how that would be Marc's favorite gift. And it looks like you planned so fun dates. Not just the usual dinner and a movie. Jeremy would go crazy if I made something like that. Maybe I'll adopt Hannah's original plan and make that for Jeremy for Valentine's day.

This is fantastic, Michelle! Both in idea and execution. I think I must copy.

SO sickenly fantastic! Can I copy it next year?

This is fabulous. Is it selfish that I want to receive it instead of give it? I need to keep a book of ideas... I may look into doing this for Valentines. Do you sell your cute tags pre-made for people like me?

Wow, I love this! It's such a fun idea, and what a great presentation, too!

Can I ask a technical question -- how did you cut the book pages? Just an exacto knife?

Keith would love this, and I always have trouble with gift ideas for him. This would be a great valentine!

VERY cool Michelle! I love this idea! I did something sort of like this for Ben, one year for Valentine's Day. Only, I don't think he's redeemed any of the coupons. Hmmm? Maybe a date one would be more appealing?

Way too cool. I love it. Thank you for sharing it. At first I thought you were supposed to do each date on the twelve days of Christmas, ie have 12 dates in a row, and I thought, "who can manage that with all the Christmas prep too?" and then I saw that they each had a month written on them. Light bulb! I'm a little slow sometimes...

This project turned out so great! I was there when you started working on it and then somehow forgot about it, so it's a treat to see how fantastic it looks. You'll have to post about all these dates when you go on them!

Oh...my mind is spinning...can I get it done in time for his birthday on the 28th? or will it need to be for V-day? I love it. He is really so much more romantic than i am, I know he will be surprised! Thank you for the inspiration!

Absolutely divine, Michelle. I particularly love the colours you've used. What did you do with all the bits you cut out? I wouldn't be surprised if you've stashed them away and will re-use them for another craft during the year ;-P

Did you use an exacto knife? I wouldn't have a clue how to do it so precise. What a priceless gift! And fabulous idea.

Oh my goodness! I love this idea and I must copy it right away! I think I will have to do it for Mike's birthday in March. I am sure that this will be a forever favorite memory for Marc! Mike and I have a Christmas letter tradition and that is the gift I look forward to most each year. Marc is so blessed to have you!

I love this project! My husband's birthday is in two weeks, and I think this is just the thing. He doesn't want anything, and is extremely hard to by for, so I can hardly wait to do this for him. I usually balk at going to the things he likes, so this will be really fun for him! What a great way to package it too. Clever!
