they're baaaaack

{picture of the finger puppet mouse Denise hid in a package she sent me -- it was quite a bit funnier when we didn't have any current mouse activity!}

Last night, Max saw the flicker of a tail as a mouse disappeared from the top of my stove!!! All the lights were on in the kitchen, and many people -- and a large dog -- were milling about. And yet a mouse was brazen enough to be on. top. of. my. stove. He didn't even have the decency to hide or wait until we were all asleep.

We haven't seen any signs of mice for two months, and now this. I would be tempted to call an exterminator today, but I'm pretty sure they would just tell us to clean up our garage, where there are any number of possible nesting places... (that will have to wait until we can tackle such a mammoth project.) So for now, I've just gritted my teeth and set more traps. Damn mice.

Oh, Michelle! I feel your pain! We had a mouse a few weeks ago, as you know, and I had to hear the trap go off in my kitchen while I was sitting there watching TV. Mice should have the decency to wait until the house is dark to come out. Sheesh!

What in the world, how can there be no sign for 2 months and then suddenly a new appearance? I will not tolerate infestation!

That picture creeps me out. This totally sucks- the gall of that mouse! I mean who do they think they are? Good luck...at least spring is around the corner and hopefully they will find happier times outside.

I hate them too Michelle...they're just so uninvited and they take things that aren't theirs...and basically, they're very rude guests. Good luck getting them to move away.

YIkes, Michelle. I'm so sorry to hear that your uninvited houseguests have returned. We live backed up to a field and I had mice a few months ago. That first scurry and quick sighting freaked me out so much that I left the house for the entire day. We ended up killing two adults and five babies within a three week period and we haven't seen any since. I'm now (after reading this!) crossing my fingers...and think I'll do a quick check for droppings. At least they make it obvious when they've been around!

Good lucky. I feel so bad for you and your mice problem.

That truly is one brazen rodent you've got. I about died laughing to see the photo of the puppet mouse! I must say he looks like he's been befriended by Jack. Sarah, wondering what I was laughing at, took a look at the photo and commented, "That mouse has hair like John's!"

P.S.: Thanks ever-so-much for picking Charlotte up at the airport!

What a dishevelled-looking mouse that is! I suggest you decapitate it, mount its furry head on a tiny stick and place it in your kitchen as a warning to any interlopers.

We had RATS when we were in our final year at college. We found a dropping on our toaster one morning. Yuck! All three of us slept together in one room that night with towels rammed up against the bottom of the door!

I hope the mouse gets sense soon and leaves you alone.

Oh my, I know I'd have to go somewhere else until the exterminator came. We have squirrels in the attic at my office STIll - they have trapped 5 in the past month and it is super creepy! Mice would be way worse to me.

That's one gutsy mouse! I feel for you! Good luck with THAT! :)

I hope you get every last one of them!

Not OK at all! I can't believe how bold mice are. Especially the ones gracing your residence! I hope he finds the little trap and meets his demise! Is that bad to say?

That puppet photo is perfect! Creepy but perfect.

Ew. Why do rodents have to be so audacious??

oh.my. I saw a mouse at my old house run down the hall into our laundry room/slash 2nd bath. I closed the door, stuffed sweatshirts under the door and left for the day. We later found him drowned in the toilet. No fun! Good luck with your extermination projects.
I love the 12 dates project! What a fun idea. I think I may have to steal it.

I'm sorry, but I did have to laugh out loud at your message relaying this latest horror. And yes, that mouse indeed looks as though Jack has befriended it. Any updates? You know, Patti had rats in her kitchen and she just went with it, so maybe you just have to adopt a more zen attitude towards your rodent companions.

As soon as the picture came up- I cringed- I'm so sorry.

We had some little field mice in one of our homes that kept coming in through the garage. One day I had a trap under the kitchen sink. My VT's came over after I had set the trap. The trap snapped & the kids ran in screaming we had caught a mouse.
I wanted to die.
good luck- I feel your pain :(

Oh I hate that. We had them for a bit when our area was under some major construction...traps and peanut butter and gritted teeth are the only things that got me through. Oh, and my husband. I never could have set(!) and emptied(!!) the traps myself. Perish the thought.

The fake mouse picture maybe as disturbing to me as the real thing.

I sure hope they go away soon!!!
