thinks her baby's blackest!
On Monday night, we went to see Max perform with the Utah Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra at Provo's Covey Center for the Arts.
This is the third year he's played with UVYSO. The first year, he was in the Sinfonia, the second year he played in the Youth Symphony, and this year he auditioned for and was admitted to the most advanced group, the Philharmonia.
It's interesting – when the Sinfonia plays, I find myself thinking, "hey, they're pretty good!" Then when the Youth Symphony plays, there's a big jump in their ability. But when the Philharmonia takes the stage, they blow you away.
I was thrilled for Max when he made the Philharmonia. But listening to them play, I was even more thrilled for him. It must be so much fun to play with a group that is so great!
Marc's parents came to the concert. They are so good to support the kids in their activities, and they always bring a card as well.
We went to The Chocolate afterwards to get some cake. (I got red velvet, but wished I had stuck with their vanilla, which I know is really good. Max helped me out.)
Also, Max brought home his first report card since he started high school. 4.0. I'm a proud mama!

Crow on Michelle! Crow on. What grand accomplishments. I would love to hear the Youth Symphony play. Congrats to you and Marc and Max.
It seems like Max has progressed so quickly with his cello playing! His natural talent coupled with the amount of time he practices have really paid off!
Bob and Mim are so great to go to everything! They have such a gift for making people feel like a million bucks.
I'm so proud of Max as well. I guess Grandma's can fall into the same "every mother thinks her baby's blackest" thought as well.
I'm not surprised that he has excelled in all that he does, and yet I marvel that he has! You should definitely be a proud mama. Yes.
But, does he have to look so old??!
Where the freak is The Chocolate??? I need to know this!
Oh, and ahem, I'm thrilled for Max. (got carried away by the thought of a delicious place)
Please, can I marry him off to Isabelle???
I have never heard that phrase before, I love it. Fits Max so well with his dark hair. I think the two of you will always enjoy music together, what a wonderful thing to share. Amazing that he can keep up his grades like that when he has such a big time commitment with the orchestra.
This is wonderful Michelle. You must be so pleased with his accomplishments and definitely should be! :)
You have every right to be a proud mama crow! Congratulation to Max for his music accomplishments and for the grades... We are also very proud.
Can't say I didn't warn you. :)
I'm so excited that Max has the opportunity to play in such a talented group--as a violinist, there's nothing I like more than to play in an amazing group and be proud of the music you produce.
Congrats, Max! Michelle, you have every reason to be proud of him!
I've always wanted to know what it would be like to play in a symphony. It must be a great feeling to play with so many other musicians, to be a part of something bigger than yourself. Congratulations to Max!
