Sunday thoughts

I was reading in the Conference issue of the Ensign last night and this talk really struck me: Stay on the Path.

Especially these parts:

Parents, grandparents, neighbors, friends, Primary leaders – each of us can reach out to hold on to the children. We can stop, kneel down, and look into their eyes and feel of their innate desire to follow the Savior. Take hold of their hands. Walk with them. It is our chance to anchor them on the path of faith.

When we are holding tight to the iron rod, we are in a position to place our hands over theirs and walk the strait and narrow path together. Our example is magnified in their eyes. They will follow our cadence when they feel secure in our actions. We do not need to be perfect – just honest and sincere. Children want to feel as one with us.

The world will teach our children if we do not, and children are capable of learning all the world will teach them at a very young age. What we want them to know five years from now needs to be part of our conversation with them today. Teach them in every circumstance; let every dilemma, every consequence, every trial that they may face provide an opportunity to teach them how to hold on to gospel truths.

My patriarchal blessing says that my children shall follow in the teachings I give them, and that their lives will result from my faithfulness. Now I need to make sure that I'm really teaching them what I want them to know, that I'm living true to my covenants and my faith.

That's cool that your Patriarchal Blessing says that! No pressure of course, but really how reassuring is that considering you're a faithful mother?! That's huge!

I feel like I turn everything into teaching moments and am pretty good about recognizing things I should point out to the kids. I always enjoy my week for teaching Family Home Evening, but I always talk to them a lot in the car.

I feel like I have to say everything I can possibly say to them while they'll still listen to me! I'm sure I'll keep saying things even if they don't seem to be listening to me, but right now they're agreeable about it.

That's neat that your blessing says that about your children--what a motivator! Parenting is so overwhelming to me, and I can't imagine that I'll ever be ready. Just adjusting to marriage is enough right now. I hope that I can be as faithful a mother as those in our family are, you most definitely included.

Thanks for your post. I think that I needed to be reminded to just "stop and look into their eyes". It gets so hectic around here that I find that I don't stop until I pass out at night. I feel that my life is calming down somewhat after so many years of trials. Perhaps now I will remember to stop.

Those tender words of counsel give one pause for thought, indeed.

I love these words and intend to be a follower.

Thanks.

"We do not need to be perfect – just honest and sincere."

I think these are my favorite words from this passage.
