call for submissions

I was recently called to be on the Relief Society activities committee and they want to have an activity every month!

If you have had a particularly successful activity in your ward, please share!

I love a good service auction! It sounds like some work to put together.. but it's really fun.

I think it would be great if you taught how to make a proper cake!
Or great ways to wrap a gift. I can think of a lot of things YOU could teach- but that may not be what you are asking for :)

I'm with Patsy. I chaired our Service Auction and it was the most attended enrichment all year!

I asked questions about the OBX below. Will you email me or something? However is easier for you to answer! Thanks!

I'll be watching your comments here closely! I always need ideas!

Our two most successful Relief Society activities have been when we made holiday planners (like the ones Collette gave us years ago) and our Modesty Night. I invited Jenn to come and give a talk that was EXCELLENT. We also had a modesty fashion sow that involved the primary children and the young women.

If you have problems with small attendance numbers we have found that it works well to make assignments for refreshments, etc. That way you can ask people who aren't regulars, or who always sign up for things.

Good luck with your new calling! I'm happy to have somebody to swap notes with!

I have enjoyed our ward's service auctions, the purse party, the choc-n-chat (fondue, a game and then 5 short speakers talking about how the gospel, music, friendship, humor and service make them happy).

We had an embroidery class where the instructor was less active but put together small sampler patterns and taught the basics of embroidery. We also have had a chocolate/candy making class, service auction, provident living activity where we put together 72 hour kits in milk jugs (we made 212 total kits and had an attendance of 150!)

Average attendance at activities has been 65-75...for Alaska, that's pretty good!

What the heck?! Everything you do is coveted by all, just pretend you're doing one of your projects! The ideas that come to you are more than enough and if you were in my Ward, I would definitely be yearning to come to activities chaired by you! From embroidery to baking/cooking and every book in between, count me in!

You could turn to Shannon for some great ideas....she's done this multiple times.

I can't believe you are doing this monthly...apparently in california they have quit doing a lot of activities and just focusing on the spiritual part of it...hmm.........

Our ward does a tasters night. We all try those recipes that we have been saving. That night we taste everyones recipe. The people who made it fill out a card about how hard, expensive, andy tips etc. We have copies of the recipes for people to take. We usually set a theme: fall foods, desserts, whatever. It is always a success. I would be happy to pass on our rating sheets or to explain anything. I realize this may not be all that coherent. Jessie will know how to contact me.

I'm with Susan - I'd love to come with you as the planner! We just did a Love to Learn night that turned out great. There was a great speaker who talked about that theme in general, then 5 of us each did a 7 minute demonstration of a skill we've learned. We each had a little table set up in front of the audience and just went down the row.

WOW! When did this change take place?!

We are having a 'favorite things' night - I think that will draw a big crowd. I have loved the service auctions, we did class on photography and photoshop that was well attended, and a blogging class as well. Everyone is anxious to learn new things and those were big draws...

Good luck! I am with your Mom, I think anything you do will be a crowd pleaser!
