Creative Friday

This is just happy, right?

I was not hugely productive, as Eva has a cold and was whiny, needy, and unwilling to just lay about and watch movies, which is what I would want to do if I were the one with a cold. Still, I managed to print out a bunch of my knitting patterns and organize them in a binder. I also copied Jill's notes from Wednesday's organizing class (I had to miss it this week because Marc was at the Sundance Film Festival and Max was at Young Men's).

It's a good thing I've come to accept that productivity is not necessarily a requirement for a good Creative Friday!

Jill made these cute labels out of one of my favorite quotes (in addition to cutting out labels for etsy orders and assembling a big stack of good mail).

She also assembled some of these seriously darling birthday gifts!

We had lasagna and Texas Toast for lunch. I tried this recipe from Amy Scott's recipe blog, and thought it was really yummy. Also one of the easier lasagnas I've made.

Funniest/most surprising part of the day: we could hear some birds making quite a racket. This lasted for quite a long time, and finally my curiosity got the better of me. I went to take a look and saw...

an owl in one of our trees! Two bluejays were giving it a thorough chewing out -- they seemed to be laying claim to the tree and telling him to go find his own. The owl gave very little response, just leisurely looking from one to the other.

In the end, the jays gave up and flew away, and the owl took a nap. An owl napping just outside our door, what in the world?

The kids definitely thought it was cool, but I think Jill and I were the most excited of all.

I kept Jack inside for a long time, but eventually I had to let him out. Of course he barked at the owl until it left.

How cute is this card that Whitney made? I am in love with her cursive signature.

Jill took this picture of my kitchen windowsill. I certainly have never thought to take a photo like this, yet I find it strangely comforting. I spend a lot of time in front of this view!

Jill suggested we just do a foot self-portrait this week, and I am certainly not in a position to argue about that.

My goodness those blue jays are beautiful. That's funny that two blue jays can't oust one owl.

That is a lovely view out your window. Everything is so pleasingly placed.

You do take such lovely pictures of your food. Of course, your food looks lovely to begin with, too.

That is a pleasing windowsill. My kitchen sink just looks out into my den-- it would be great to have a window view.

That knitting pattern is the same pattern I made for Jill! I love it, it is a good quick knit!

I love how we always choose different photos when we write about Creative Friday. I usually like your post better than mine though, so that's an issue, but still.

I can't get over the owl sighting or the blue jays really, I never see those around my house and we have a VERY active bird feeder!

Wow! I can't say that I've every seen an owl in nature...I've heard one, but never seen one! Cool!

As usual, I'm really envying creative Friday's...I wonder if I will every be part of one. *sigh*

My mother in law is a real animal/nature person and she has owls that live at her ranch. I can't remember their names, but every wild creature on that ranch has one.
I wish I could read upside down better - I'm wondering what it says on those cards Jill is making.
I was going to work on birthday cards today, but I got sidetracked by a sick little girl. You were remarkably productive with Eva on your lap.

That jay is beautiful! Wow. The picture of the owl staring you down is freaking me out, though. Hey, maybe that owl could solve Jill's mouse problem?

I suppress many a generous thought because I'm afraid people will think I'm weird. I'm sure that's just me be paranoid, however.

I want a window sill like that one day. I think having a pretty view from your sink is essential to happy living.

I would be excited about the owl, too. Did Jack scare it away permanently, or did it come back?

I have to say, that I think you are such an amazing photographer. I love the photos in your last post. That little fox? is so darn cute.

Sorry you have a sick little one. I have a sick big one, Jason, and it is exhausting!

That owl looks so amazing - how wonderful that you were home to see that!

Great view out your kitchen window! Love that Jill took that photo for you.

Creative Fridays sound magical to me..

Love the shoe portrait!!

I loved this post. I love the owl, Jill's amazing creativity, the fact that you made yourself a knitting binder and of course the picture of the Diet coke. There's just something about this whole post that is homey. THanks!

damn dog. I think the owl in your tree is just the coolest thing!

Creative Fridays do not have to be productive to be enviable either. This cold, gray weather makes your day seem just plain cozy and happy even with Eva's neediness.

So many great photos.

And my favorite line--"It's a good thing I've come to accept that productivity is not necessarily a requirement for a good Creative Friday!" I needed that reminder today :)

My favorite part of this day would have definitely been seeing the owl! How random and cool!! That's such a great picture of him! You were really close!

I also love the picture of your window sill...That's just one of those things that needs documentation since it's a place we spend so much time looking out of...years from now, I think it will be so neat for our children to see everyday life things like this...ya know? :)
