Sunday thoughts

I've been reading in Moroni this week, and these verses stood out to me:

Moroni 7

13 But behold, that which is of God inviteth and enticeth to do good continually; wherefore, every thing which inviteth and enticeth to do good, and to love God, and to serve him, is inspired of God.

14 Wherefore, take heed, my beloved brethren, that ye do not judge that which is evil to be of God, or that which is good and of God to be of the devil.

15 For behold, my brethren, it is given unto you to judge, that ye may know good from evil; and the way to judge is as plain, that ye may know with a perfect knowledge, as the daylight is from the dark night.

16 For behold, the Spirit of Christ is given to every man, that he may know good from evil; wherefore, I show unto you the way to judge; for every thing which inviteth to do good, and to persuade to belive in Christ, is sent forth by the power and gift of Christ; wherefore ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of God.

18 And now, my brethren, seeing that ye know the light by which ye may judge, which ight is the light of Christ, see that ye do not judge wrongfully; for with that same judgment which ye judge ye shall also be judged.

I think it is so interesting that, even though we have the light of Christ to help us discern right from wrong, and the way to judge is plain -- as daylight from the dark night -- we still manage to judge wrongfully at times. I guess it is a testament to the persuasive power of the adversary and also our veiled mortal vision. Still, a very good reminder to me that it is plain: anything that entices us to do good comes from God -- and that the converse is true as well.

I love these verses and am always struck anew each time I read them, but especially verse 18. I like to think I judge fairly (is that an oxymoron?) but really I shouldn't be doing any judging at all so I'm already in trouble. I think the world today is made to look like everything is a shade of gray, so it's harder to clearly see right from wrong.

Oh yes, I love this portion. Thank you for sharing. I've been thinking about how to teach my children to discern the good from the bad. It is hard when they are so young.

I needed this.

I also know a friend that really needs to read this right now. Thank you for reminding me. I really think this will help bring her strength right now!

Good reminder. I misjudge too often... the main reason for trying to learn to slow my reaction. And a good reminder not to second guess our good intentions and just do them... it never hurts to do good.

This is particularly interesting. I just finished re-reading The Screwtape Letters and it brings this very thing to mind.

BTW - thanks for your fabulous thank you card. Always love good mail.

I know that sometimes I like to pretend that certain things aren't so black and white because I want to get away with something. Who am I conning? I think I would be astounded by how well the Lord knows me, and by how aware He is of what my real intentions are.
