I had to go see my ENT today to get my nose cauterized. Isn't that just a lovely image? After having a total of 6.5 hours of nosebleeds over the past several days, including having blood come out of my EYE (a la Mya on Heroes), I had to go in. I was assured that none of this is out of the ordinary. Maybe not if you're an ENT, but for me, this is all pretty out of the ordinary! Especially the eye thing -- that was freaking me out.
Anyway.
He put silver nitrate in my nose to control the bleeding. And he accidentally got a stray amount of it on the outside of my nose. It's not attractive, but under normal circumstances, I wouldn't care all that much. But tomorrow I have to go get a new driver's license as mine expires on Saturday. Nothing like carrying around an i.d. photo for 10 years with a strange mark on your nostril! Never a dull moment.

Oh dear, the whole experience sounds rather gruesome.
By the way, you don't have to go get your license taken right away. I went 6 weeks late the last time I had to do it and it was fine.
ok- wait. BLOOD coming out of your EYE?! what the he*$?!?!? i would have freaked out. seriously. i'm so sorry that happened to you! ick!!!
i agree with jill- do it later. :) then again- most people have no excuse for their license photo. this would be a good one- and a good story to boot! (sorry- we've been reading pirate books around here and "to boot" ends everything...)
here's to a drier nosed experience! and how much do i give thanks that i'm not an ent?!
The image of the whole thing makes me squeamish...
I'm with Jill and Jenn...wait! There's no photoshopping going on at the DMV!
Blood coming out of your eye definitely sounds like a House thing. Echoing previous comments, it's too bad DMV workers don't Photoshop! I'm glad everything is okay though!
So creepy that is just kept bleeding, and then out of your EYE!?!? I would have been calling right away.
I would wait to go get your picture taken. This post reminded me I need to do mine, since, oh NOVEMBER! So yeah, nothing wrong with waiting...
That is seriously gruesome. Looks like I need to send you some Denver Nasal Ointment for your birthday. I had to have my nose cauterized once and I hate to tell you, but it was far from a pleasant experience.
Can't you renew your driver's license through the mail? I've done that the last time or two. When I turn 50 in four years (now THAT's a scary sentence) I'll still have the same photo on my license from when I was 35. That's what I call eternal youth!
Good luck with the whole ordeal.
Well, I hope the nose bleeds are taken care of.
You've really got me thinking about what is ordinary to me that might not be ordinary to other people.
OUT YOUR EYE!!!
oh my gosh- I would have ran to the ER... You are one brave lady!!!
SO glad it's over-
I have renewed my DLicense by mail now twice- so my picture... it's been the same for YEArs-
OF COURSE, I haven't changed... NOT ONE BIT ;) so it's all good.
I would be freaking out too! I'm not a fan of being told 'it's normal'. Really, it is? I'm sorry you have had to deal with so many nose bleeds. So glad they're over, for now at least.
Too bad you can't photoshop your license since you have a houseful of photoshop geniuses!
Is it wrong that I am now very curious to see your new nose make-up?
This post had me laughing out loud!!!! Murphy's law... AND...
YOUR EYE!!!!!!
Ugh, yeah, not normal...holy scariness.
"Eye-openers"...you're not kidding.
AFter having heard this tale prior to this post, I thought you were going to say that during the Dr.'s appointment, the whole nose bleed thing started again and he really got a first hand look at what has been happening!
Yuk on the whole experience. I think I'm on the same page as the rest of your followers on waiting for the photo....but I still have a hard time thinking that this could be "normal"....for who?!
Oh my, oh my, oh my! That sounds rather terrifying, really. I think my kids would have lost it if I suddenly had blood coming out of my eye. I hope that solved the problem!
And yeah, I'm thinking "normal" is relative. Wow!
I can't believe it was coming out of your eye. I haven't heard of that before. I would have been freaking out. My kids and Jason get a lot of nose bleeds. I had to take Blake in last fall because he was having so many and they were lasting an hour or longer. They told us to have him use saline spray and it helped thankfully. Good luck with it all.
out of your eye? oh my gosh! that definitely doesn't sound normal to me - i agree, i would be a little freaked out too, ok, really freaked out. maybe you have a secret power?
i vote you just wait for the spot to clear, if you get pulled over, just bat your cute eye lashes and play like you had no idea it was expired.
Oh my goodness! How terrible! I hope your license photo turns out better than you think! Hopefully this silver nitrate will end your nosebleeds.
I guess it depends on who is defining "normal" right?! What the? I can't believe all of that. Now my question is, why is it happening? What caused that? Sounds insane. I hope that procedure takes care of the problem. So sorry you have to get your DL tomorrow!
Out of your eye? Holy cow! That is crazy!!! Your license must be expiring on your bday? HAPPY BIRTHDAY tomorrow!!!
oh my I am laughing so hard, of course not at your moment but I must share this story.
once Jeff brought home some silver nitrate to cauterize AK's nose (she was like 5) and he got some that dripped down. it was there for days - it was funny because she was 5 but not so funny for you.
and then at lunch one day a bunch of the ENT's were all sharing stories about their "oops" nitrate spills.
Oh I am so sorry!!! please take a photo
Happy Birthday tomorrow,
What? Oh, no! Blood coming out of your EYE? That is traumatic!!! I don't understand! I hope you're okay now...which you probably are, condsidering that I'm days late in commenting on this post.
But seriously, blood coming out of your eye? You poor girl!
