my 38th birthday

I slept in until 10:00! It was glorious. Then I got up and Marc wanted me to open his present:

Also glorious! I've been coveting this baby for some time now. And in my favorite color, too! Eva was almost as excited as I was, and she can't wait to help me make something with my new mixer.

Then I opened some birthday good mail.

A huge set of Sharpies from Natasha! I've always wanted these.

Kim Sue sent me some architectural photo cards that I love, along with a sweet letter!

Amie sent me a thoughtful card.

Claudia sent me this chandelier card and said that she bought it before I changed my banner and was delighted to see that I am a fan of chandeliers.

Patsy sent me this cute little pouch with a Ritter bar inside. Ribbon? Monogram? Chocolate? Check. I love all those things.

Shannon sent me these owl magnets and darling polka dot address labels.

Wende sent me these cute birthday cards.

Kristi sent me 3 beautiful brown transferware plates! Oh, I love these. She also sent me some cute birthday napkins and a Vera Bradley card organizer.

Suddenly I realized it was getting late, so I hurriedly got ready for my date with Jill. She picked me up and we went straight to the theater to see He's Just Not That Into You.

This is our post-movie self-portrait. Jill called it "a bit of a wrist-slitter". I don't know that it was that bad, but it was definitely not the comedy the trailer led us to believe. Not a light, happy movie. I wouldn't recommend it. But we did have popcorn and m&ms and we were able to roll our eyes together.

We went to California Pizza Kitchen and had good food and chatted. Then we went into the mall (neither of our favorite places) to exchange something for Whitney.

Lo and behold, a little girl was selling Girl Scout cookies outside Build-a-Bear and Jill bought me some for my birthday! I love Girl Scout cookies. Love them. And I never seem to know anyone who is selling them, so I haven't had any for years. I'm excited.

When we got back to my house, I opened Jill's other gifts. She gave me this shirt and an enormous stainless steel bowl (the bowl was the only thing I could think of that I wanted when she asked).

She also brought the gift from my parents and grandparents that had been sent to her house:

a cute orange KitchenAid! They both had the same idea. I never anticipated getting one such generous gift, let alone two! Of course, I have to return one, so I hope my mom isn't too disappointed.

I opened Jessie's gift, which she preceded with disclaimers-o-plenty. Silly girl. Let's see, the cutest knitting needle holder in the world (it's lime green inside!), stitch markers, wool yarn, two adorable fabrics, a tin of handmade magnets, and a most excellent precision liquid eyeliner from Ulta. No complaints here! I love it all.

Marc's family came over with dinner and we talked for quite awhile (I was too full to eat again). Since I wasn't taking pictures, we don't have much documentation of that part of the day. Marc's parents gave me a Nordstrom gift card so I can buy some new shoes. (They gave me shoe money for my birthday last year, but I saved it, and it ended up going towards Christmas gifts. They wanted to make sure I actually bought shoes this time!)

And, of course, Marc made me my traditional birthday cake, German Chocolate.

He is the master of that cake now. And, thanks to a brilliant suggestion on Eva's part, we had it with coconut ice cream! (And I didn't think it could be improved upon.)

At church yesterday, some of my fellow YW leaders were asking if I had a good birthday or if it was just another day. I proudly told them that birthdays are a big deal around here, and it most definitely was not just another day! Thanks to so many loved ones and friends for making it wonderful.

I always look forward to seeing your documentations!--Your pictures are always a delight!

I love the lime green kitchen-aid! When I asked your mom on Sunday what you thought of the orange mixer, she told me that Marc had gotten you the green one that you had been wanting...she wasn't upset in the least...just happy that you got what you wanted--

I'm glad to know that the movie wasn't worth wasting money on...I so rarely go to the movies, that I want to make sure that when I do get there, the show is not a dud!

My favorite gift that you got were those brown transferware plates! Holy Balogny! I love those beyond words!

You've got quite a fan club, I must say! Glad you had a great birthday!

Did you ever imagine that you'd be 38?--As I've got you beat by a month and a half, I'd have to say that so far so good...38 seems like a lucky number... :)

Wow--what a lot of love! That bright green mixer just warms my heart. How fun to have a new mixer AND birthday money! I love the shirt Jill gave you, too--very cute. And what better way to cap off the day than with German Chocolate cake--my personal favorite, as well.

I am in love with your green mixer. I would have been in love with your orange one too. What a fabulous birthday! The dinner, the gifts, the outing with Jill and especially the Girl Scout cookies. Yum!

And I have to agree with Jill, that movie was extremely deceiving in the trailers and was a wrist slitter for me too! So glad I'm not the only one.

I have to say that I think you got cuter for your birthday... those are some very good pictures of you... from every angle. You look great.

I'm so glad you were thought of and celebrated... what a good example for your young women to hear an adult woman be happy about her birthday.

Oh my. I have to say that I've always loved my gray Kitchen-Aid but your lime green has me reeling. I want it! And, as much as you cook, you definitely deserve to do it with such cuteness. Happy Birthday!

food processor! return one mixer and get a nice food processor! i've wanted a nice food processor most of my adult life...

a very stylish and heartfelt birthday. i'm glad birthdays are a big deal in your family. so many people have negative thoughts on birthdays, but i think it may be because their friends and family don't go through the effort of making it a special day for them.

thank you for the nice comments on my blog! they made my heart sing!

I'm glad you got so much good mail for your birthday, the thoughtfulness is rather touching.

I stand by my wrist-slitter comment, that movie ended up being rough and so not the fun, romantic comedy I hoped we were seeing on your birthday. We need a movie do-over.

2 Kitchen Aids, wow, wow, wow! I love that you can see Eva's reflection in the bowl in the top picture.

German Chocolate cake with coconut icecream on the side? Oh, stop!
(and a green kitchenaid to boot)

Wow, you got to really cool colors for kitchen aids. You are one lucky girl! I am so glad you were able to have such a great birthday. I saw that movie also and was very disappointed.

Where is that restaurant in provo? It looks so great.

What a great day!

Love the GREEN mixer! So cheery! And what day wouldn't be perfect if Girl Scout cookies were involved in some way? It's good to feel loved and loved you are!

Happy Be-lated Birthday!

Love, LOVE the green mixer! I love orange, too...I wish I could justify buying one!

I really liked "He's Just Not That Into You." It wasn't as much of a comedy as I though it would be though.

Your birthday cake looks amazing!

I'm glad that you had a wonderful birthday, and I enjoyed your photos.

It's sounds like such a delightful birthday. I'm hoping to have mine on a Saturday sometime so I can sleep in too.

It think it's interesting how those who love you the most bought you the same gift. I would have a hard time choosing which to keep. I like the orange and the green.

Looks like you got the treatment you deserved and it's fun you and Jill got to spend the day together.

What a delightful day! I love when my birthday falls on a Saturday so it is easier to get away. It is fun to see all you were showered with, you so deserve it!

Where did you get that coconut ice cream? I know I could figure out a recipe, but I want to taste something to go off of before I try to make it!

I love cake.
