spt -- #28 of 100

28. I vowed when my first child was born that I would not let my body image problems keep me from taking my kids swimming. I quite often regret that vow when summer rolls around!

Oh, how I regret it.

It is so painful to have to put on a bathing suit, and then go out in public. So very painful.

But I am glad I made that vow, otherwise I know I would never take them swimming, and they would be cheated out of one of their most favorite activities.

As for myself, I am oh so happy when Fall arrives! Not only for the cooler temperatures, which are most welcome, and the pumpkins and holiday decor, and for soups and stews and changing leaves, but also the secure knowledge that my body will be adequately covered with clothing for many months!

Now that is a good thing.

Wow
MOm's who take their kids swimming are amazing to me. You know my story... I did it for years... yada yada yada.

What a GOrgeoUs picture!!! You are so beautiful- and such a great mom

You always look so pretty in your self-portraits! How do you do it? (You're just naturally beautiful I guess.)

I think your vow is very selfless and inspiring and is helped me get over my body image woes.

Did I say get over? I meant deal with.

I hid for so long from swimsuits. I am a fish at heart and new my kids were suffering so I had to get over myself, deal with what I have done to myself and get back in. Now if I could convince Jason to buy season passes for next year. Are you going to be there?

Love, Love the pumpkin photo.

Beautiful picture of you. Don't you wonder if those kiddles will ever know how much you do for them? Some days I do.

I remember this vow when I read your 100 list and thought it was incredible and I found inspiration in it. I'm so glad you not only lived by it, but wrote about it, too.

As for fall, I hear you! Bring on the sweaters that cover a multitude of things.

I echo the other sentiments...you are so very photogenic.

Oh how I hear ya on this one! I am glad that for now my kids are not in school and we can go swimming during the school hours because there is NO ONE in the pool except for VERY old women...a few VERY old men and large mothers like myself. Every once and awhile a skinny mom will come but even then it's not too bad.

What a pretty photo with the pumpkins. I wish my problem was that I looked too good in a suit--NOT! Good for you for still going swimming.

I really need to adopt this vow in my own life. I have not taken my kids swimming, except for swimming lessons, for the last 2 summers.

They want to go SO bad but because of my own body image issues, I don't take them.

Where did you find a suit you were comfortable in?

I love Eva peeking out in your self-portrait!

I love this SP! I've been wanting to document my fall deco's and I just may have to try a SP with my pumpkins in the background.

As for swimming--you're a better Mom and I am.

That's a great photo and you are such a good mom to take your kids swimming even though it's not your most comfortable activity. I always admire the way kids run around so carefree at the pool.

You look beautiful in both pictures. I love the Fall too, for every reason that you mentioned.

"knowing my body will be adequately covered with clothing for several months" laughed out loud. You are a good mom. I want to be a mom who does things WITH their kids and not just WATCHES them do it. Glad you are like that.

LOVED the pumpkin picture. Great angle and shot, and your eyes look amazing.

The whole inherited knee issues along with pride shall forever keep me from donning a suit......I'm totally impressed with your ability to keep that promise! Yet another inspiration from you.

The photos of you are tooooooooo darling! And yes, I love the pumpkins in the background too! Now I'm going to go back and study to see if I can see Evan peeking out!

I too, am always happy when the winter clothes appear and hide a multitude of flaws! Pashminas in every color, gloves and long pants!
(Not to mention a few cute coats!)

"...the secure knowledge that my body will be adequately covered with clothing for many months!"

You know, I kinda think ALL bodies should be adequately covered at all times. I dearly wish we could rewind to the days of the "bathing costume," which entailed a shorter dress.

I bemoan the swimsuit.

Once again, with the diva eyes.

I tell you what.

you are awesome and that is a worthy promise.

i loathe swimsuit season. i think so many of us do. i try not to let it stop me from enjoying life but summer at the pool is trying, for sure!

Very impressive that you had that insight as a young mom. I totally agree but it took me many more years to get there. (I am planning to buy my passes this month...)

A little alarming to see me on your blog and in swim attire! Seven Peaks with you ladies is a highlight for me.

What a great promise to make! Linc loves swimming with the girls, and I love family time, so I had to get over it. We go to the indoor AF pool in the winter, so there is no reprieve!

I do love the chill that has been in the air this weekend!

You look beautiful as usual!

i took the same vow with my kids. my mom is heavy and if we ever did swim she sat in her chair in her shorts and shirt and watched the whole time. i HATED this! plus, we live in utah, it's so bloody hot here that if you want to be outside it's got to have something to do with water i think.

but i'm with you, love that when fall comes it means i don't have to sweat the bathing suit for another 8 or 9 months! :)

great photograph, everyone is right, you ARE a gorgeous woman michelle!
