sweet

One of the benefits of living in North Carolina is Rita's Water Ice! We always get Rita's when we visit my parents in PA, but I haven't been there since March '06, so you can see it's been quite awhile since my last fix.

Fortunately, a Rita's opened up right near Jessie & Timm's home just recently, and thus we ate it nearly every night during my stay. The employees know me now, thanks to my just before closing runs to Rita's. When I eat Rita's once every 2-3 years, I stick to the mango gelati (mango water ice with vanilla custard swirled in). But when I could eat it several times in a one-week period, I branched out a little. I tasted wild black cherry, birthday cake, lime, green apple, Georgia peach. All good.

Here's what I had this week:

-- Georgia peach Misto. Very good.
-- Cherry gelati. Very good.
-- Green apple gelati. Delicious.
-- Mango gelati. Still the gold standard.

I was considering ordering a wild black cherry gelati last night, but they were out of it. (They don't have all of the flavors all the time.) But I found out that you can get on their email list and they will send you a message when they have your favorite flavor in, plus give you coupons! Pretty sweet, eh?

Indeed.

How delightful that you got to partake in a tasty water ice many times while you were there. I tried Taco Amigo's version (called a glacier) this week with grape slushie and ice cream...it was great! I'm sure it's nothing close to Rita's fancy flavors and custardy goodness, but I'll take it!

I don't think we have anything like that here...is it anything like Sonic's cream slushes? I'm just trying to get a handle on the texture. Glad you guys are having fun.

why? why? don't we have something like this in Utah??? We have Neilson's frozen custard in Bountiful- but I think that's it. Megan said there are tons of frozen custard places in Arkansas.

I am so glad you got to try so many flavors! what a delight :)

I have never heard of a frozen custard or a water ice or anything like that. It does not sound appealing but your recommendations have never let me down so I'll take your word for it! Interesting.

Yum! Rita's Water Ice! Of course Dad and I knew that Jessie would be a raving fan (as she was in Bucks County, Pa!)

Glad you could partake!

I want an older sister to come visit me. But, since I am the older sister, I guess I should just try to emulate your service instead of whining.

We just got a Bellissimo gelato by us, I don't know if it would compare but I have heard good things about it.

Oh, to have a cup of Rita's Water Ice right now. . . . I would have to go with mango, as well (it's the only flavor I've ever tried), though the black cherry does sound tempting.

I love that sign!

I have heard Jessie go on and on about this place- the picture and your description are great. I have had the Glacier one that Jill talked about here, had no idea that was what it was similar to. I love those. Someday!
