We recorded the Beijing Olympics opening ceremonies last night. Wow! I love seeing the creativity that goes into this huge production, as well as the national identity that always comes through in a big way.
It's hard to imagine the number of hours spent in rehearsal to get everything perfect. And the number of volunteers. SO cool!! I love the Olympics so much. I can't wait!

Thanks for posting the picture of the people inside the blocks. A friend and I were having a friendly argument about whether the people were really lifting the blocks or just operating a machine that was doing the lifting. I forwarded the pic on to her. I was right!
do you believe that with all the hectic-ness of opening night Seussical, i forgot to set my DVR?!? thank goodness for the Internet (and for bloggers who post cool photos!!)
also, to add, that in 1996, my youngest sister was in the Olympic Band/Color Guard, and she got to be in the Opening Ceremonies in Atlanta. i was lucky enough to get to go to the dress rehearsal!! unBELIEVEable!! talk about your hours and hours of rehearsals...
this is such a great post, i keep thinking all day today that i need to do a post on how much i love the olympics and how incredible the opening ceremonies were. can i just copy and paste your entery? you pretty much summed it up for me! :) the boxes were my favorite part, i was SHOCKED that they were powered by people, incredible! go USA!
oh my goodness....I too recorded it, but haven't seen it yet. I was getting all preped up for it, with Chilli's Queso Skillet, and some quesadillas, and when I got home, Alf had already taken the kids up for bed...and he never came down, so I ended up seeing something else....maybe tonight!
i thought the ceremonies were AMAZING! i loved them! even christian stayed with them through the end.
i was on the wardrobe committee when they were here and got to be involved with both opening and closing ceremonies. it is such an incredible production. i would have LOVED to have been a part of the ones in china!!!
I didn't get to see the opening ceremonies, but I did watch a bunch of the women's gymnastics yesterday--it was awesome! I've been feeling quite nationalistic with the Olympics :)
We are loving the Olympics too. The whole thing is just cool. I get emotional just watching... I can't even imagine the emotions the athletes must feel....
I'm a major homebody (sometimes to the point of being anti-social) and really enjoy being a homemaker. Now if only I could be a better housekeeper... I can't stand being hurried or making small talk. I love anything that makes my surroundings more beautiful or cozy. I need alone time to recharge my batteries. I love having projects to work on and books waiting in the wings.

How sad was the story about the little boy who walked with Yao Ming?
We have a serious amount of TV watching to do.
those are great images - my kids seem to be discovering the olympics for the first time this year.
I have seen clips and watched the last 20 minutes or so of it. Amazing- I am looking forward to watching the whole thing tonight online.
