Remember when I told you about Chow Hounds? Marc was searching their site for something really good to eat in this, the land of chain restaurants. I was holding out little hope that he'd find something that we didn't already know about, but he did!
Two former Sundance chefs opened Pizzeria 712 a couple of months ago. That's all we needed to know -- we scrapped our March date of take-out and a DVD and went to check it out on Friday. It definitely did not disappoint! And as an added bonus, we saw a couple there that lives across the street with us and we ended up eating dinner together. (They're regulars there -- he used to be over the food at Sundance, so he knows the chefs and knew all about their opening.)
We wanted to try everything on the menu. But since we had to narrow it down, I had a salad with beets and Marc had one with roasted squash. Then we ordered two pizzas to share between all of us -- gorgonzola pine nut, and fennel/Italian sausage, Both delicious. We shared a pear cobbler for dessert.
Since we had gotten there fairly late, we were there until closing time and were actually the last customers in the restaurant, so we were talking with the chefs. I got out my camera for a group self-portrait (you know I had to) and one of the chefs said, "No flash photography, please - unless you're going to put it on your blog!" So of course I obliged:
Of course no one wanted to do the self-portrait, but I can be very persistent!
(Don't ask me how Marc ended up being the only one to look at the lens...)
Good food, good company -- our March date was a success!

I'm so impressed with your self portraits lately, they seem like they'd be way out of your comfort zone. It makes for much more amusing blogging and good memories eh?
Whenever you post about what you guys order at restaurants I feel like a complete chump and always end up thinking "would I starve?"
I love that place! I went there for a roommate's birthday a couple of months ago and on a date a while ago--it's great!
i love that place so, so much
The food sounds amazing!!!
That food sounds dreamy! I'm amazed with your SP. Funny how open I am now to taking pictures in 'different' places now that I blog.
My thoughts are similar to Jill's- I don't think of myself as a picky eater until you post about food and then I think I have no taste.
So glad you found a fun new place to go and that it turned out to be such a great night!
wow what a group. Eating out is bliss and trying fabulous combinations even better. The palate has soo many options...funny jill's comment...it would definately be an adventure to have her try something out of her comfort zone!
i long for restaurants like this near me!!
I love finding new restaurants especially pizzerias...good ones can rarely be found. I need to tell adam about this.
How coincidental you bumped into your neighbors. I guess it was serendipitous that you went out after all.
cute sp. I'm glad you encouraged them.
That restaurant sounds like a very cool new place! I'd love to try it sometime if I'm ever in UT! :)
Love the "no flash photography unless it's posted on your blog!" SO funny!
Those sound like very fancy menus. I like to try new things at resturants, but we go out to eat so rarely I am always torn: should I spend the money on something I know I'll love, or on something I never would have made at home? Ah, decisions.
I too have to pry sometimes for the SP but I am always glad I did them. Sounds like a fun date. Love the new makeover on your blog.
hey free advertising huh? if i lived there i would for sure give it a try after your post.
was he serious about the flash photography?
Mmmm. . .I've been wanting to try that place, and now that I know it's by some of the chefs from Sundance, Jeremy and I will definitely have to go. Oh, and I'm glad you had a fun date!
How funny that they'd let you take pictures if you were going to put them on your blog. I guess they know the power of the blogosphere!
I am officially a bit jealous of your monthly dates. I may have to revisit you post about the gift and see if I have the skills to do it myself. Awesome.
Mark and I have totally been meaning to go there! The chef in the "top" picture is actually in my sisters' ward, so we've been meaning to go ever since it's opened. Alas, still haven't made it over there, but it sounds right up my alley!
