Kristi -- this one is for you! One of the exclusive boutiques around Union Square.
I saw this in a dollar store and it cracked me up -- Benign girl instead of Barbie or Bratz?
This overpass had a long glass wall with poetry on it, I found it charming. (and I love glass art!)
...although I wasn't really tempted. What sane person spends $4.00 for a little Rice Krispie treat or a bottle of water???
I really liked this metal art -- it was inside the ginormous Banana Republic that we went to, twice.
And now for some mental pictures, things I wish I could have captured on camera:
The very cute old Asian couple that I stood by while waiting for a bus. She kept bumping the back of his knee with her knee, causing it to buckle. You'd think that would get old, but she kept doing it for 10 minutes straight, and each time they would both giggle.I love watching and listening to people, and the diversity of big cities.
An older man in a wheelchair with a mohawk that was turning gray and a leather jacket. He might have been getting older, but he wasn't going to stop being cool.
An awning I passed while on a bus that said "Hair Fairies: We Help With Head Lice". I wanted to get a photo for you, Lelly!
A couple of younger guys walking behind me. One of them said: "So, eBay, that was started in like the 80s, right?" (!)

I love all these miscellaneous pictures from your trip, they're so cool. It kind of makes me wonder if what sorts of cool things we could find if we acted like tourists in our own town.
Also, I love it when you write about the photos you didn't take. I think that's very cool and I enjoy being able to conjure up the images you described.
I love the miscellany even better than all your other posts...something completely charming and quirky and I loved how different scenes made you think of your friends. The mental pictures were fab too...I hope to be picturing that little Asian couple all day.
I love your observations and the lists of things you wish you had pictures of- always as good as the pictures Michelle!
I LIKE traveling through your eyes. I love the pictures you painted with your snippets.
Isn't it amazing how much you can capture just from photos. Thanks for sharing them. They were truly delightful. I really wish you could have gotten that couple on camera. How funny.
I love that last photo. The mini bar cracks me up too- it looks like a display at a basketball game. I also like the metal art at BR. I think I would have visited that shop at least twice too. Sounds like you had a great time.
oh my goodness what a fabulous recount. I love the pInk shop...i FIRST was acquianted with it in Glasgow Scotland...it was going to be my brothers wedding and their colors where black and pink...just perfect, So i GOT some stuff and bags for her. I love all the photos...soo nice to see! Gas yiaks...OH MY
oooh, i'd just love to have some hair fairies!!
lovely miscellany.
Love your mental images and the snapshots of SF! What a cool trip!
Love, love, love the swift photolists you do. I need to apply myself to it more, but I find uploading all my shots to Photobucket a total pain. I have no patience for it.
Thomas Pink - ooer, sooo posh. Paul has a couple of shirts of his. They were handmedowns, I must add - from Baron Steinberg (yes, he's a real Baron!).
Benign Girl - that's sooo funny. Is that some kind of Taiwanese translation gone seriously wrong? Did they just mean Cute Girl or Shy Girl?? You should've bought one, Michelle. It'll probably end up in some design museum in the future, in some popular culture exhibition - a la Woody in Toy Story 2.
I love the glass poetry. That has planted the seed of an idea in my mind....hmmmm.
Petrol prices. We're paying, here in the UK, £1.07 per litre. I think there are about 4 litres in a gallon, so that's £4.28p per litre, so in dollars that's $8.46 per gallon. We're paying $8.46!
I'm driving in my red zone on the petrol gauge at the moment, because I can't bring myself to pay £1.07 a litre.
That mini bar's not fair. Tut tut.
I love the mental images. I also love overhearing snippets of conversations. I heard a woman talking to her friend a couple of weeks ago. All I heard was: 'Yeah, she's really depressed about it. I mean, she's been a bridesmaid 17 times now...'
I have really enjoyed these SF posts. What fun-
Great! Great! Great! I loved living vicariously through you and your travels.
I absolutely loved all of the mental images you described so picturesquely--love the word pictures that you painted.
Aren't people fascinating?
Great pictures! Your trip sounds delightful!! What a great image of that old Asian couple teasing and giggling. I want to be like that when I'm older.
What a cool hip frog! That's the kind of pet I want. It's the perfect pet it can play tunes on it's jazzy saxophone and still manage to still be kind of creapy and lifelike at the same time.
I just have to say I love your misc pictures that tell the story of your trip so beautifully. The metal art is very cool.
I also love it when you take mental pictures and need to remind myself to do that more. There are so many things I say to myself, I wish I could take a picture of that, and you just proved that you can. love your observations.
I LOVE all of your pictures. I've been away from blogging for a week, but once in a while was thrilled by the thought about seeing your San Francisco upon my return. No disappointment here!
ohh thanks for thinking of me. my brother in law who used to live right in the city used to buy his shirt and ties at that very pink store, is it not a men's shop?
i liked the photos you didn't take too.
You captured some wonderful images. I'm so glad you got to go experience "my" city. It sounds like you had some fun (despite the sore feet) and discovered some gems along the way.
