recent projects

I am still thrilled about the new tidy, organized state of my studio. In celebration, I thought I'd share some of my recent projects:

Box of tins I made for my mom's birthday (Jill's original brilliant idea)

My mom commissioned Hannah and I to make 20 coptic-bound gratitude journals. We got together a couple of times to cut book board and paper, glue covers, assemble signatures and sew. Hannah made most of them! I'm sure glad I didn't have to make 20 of them, I'm still pretty much a newbie at bookbinding.

I must say it was a very pleasing sight to see them all finished.

I took Kristi's advice on getting to know my new Laurels. First I gave them all a little questionnaire so I could find out more about them. Then I assembled these bags of things that I like/things about me so that they can get to know me better. I am thinking of it as a friendship shortcut, sure hope it works! It took me longer to get this together than I planned, so I only just delivered them on Sunday.

I made each of them a small gratitude journal in their favorite colors, with quotes about gratitude tucked inside. Also a small sheet with some of my favorite scriptures on the front and things I like to do on the reverse. A small pack of m&ms and a little Reese's egg, and...
bookmarks for each of them, copied from the ones Jessie made at Christmastime, because I love them so much. That's it! I'm not sure why that took me two weeks to do, but there you have it.

But probably my favorite thing I have done in my studio is making the discovery that I really can work in there, spread out all my supplies, make a big mess:

and then restore it to its pristine state! I've done it 3 or 4 times now, woohoo!

Here's Marc's latest project:

He took the boys' scary room apart, systematically purging, organizing, and cleaning every little bit of it.

Not the best "after" pic, but you get the idea, right? Now let's hope this room has the same success rate of staying tidy!

It's so pleasing to see pictures of your projects! I'm sure the Laurels all loved getting that bag full of goodies from you, even if they aren't good about gushing the way most of us would. I think it's a great idea and a fun way for them to get to know you a little bit better. These things take time.

I love it when Marc gets the cleaning bug, I wish Randy would catch that.

I was just thinking today, "I wish Michelle would do some more projects, I love to see what she's working on." Thank you for your telepathic abilities :)

I love the getting to know you idea reversed. Brilliant.

Good for you! I read "Its all too much" a while back and since discovering that much of my clutter is "lazy clutter" its been so empowering in not getting re-cluttered. I can un-lazy in 15 minutes, or keep muself from it simply by not letting things go on the counter when I bring in the mail.

Great job!

What pleasing sights! I love the tin for your mom- the colors and design are so great.

And the books- I knew the group photo would be pleasing. They were fun to do- it was fun working in your studio around such awesome things and in great company.

And your laurels are so lucky- anything made by you is a true gift.

The get to know ME bags are such a cute idea! The girls could even make one about themselves and exchange amongst each other..I don't know something like that. It might be a fun activity if their are new girls from the ward split.

So much cuteness!

Wow! I love your projects. I'd love to hear how you made those clear jar things for your mom. I think the bag of goodies for your Laurels is a great idea...and really I think the amount of time it took to make is acceptable. I mean you are a mom, and it gets pretty busy being the mom. I think they will love the bags!

I think the boys room looks great too!

I always enjoy seeing your creativeness.

Your tins are always amazing.

Hannah to the rescue. It's so nice of her to help you. 20 books would have felt like such a big job. They look awesome.

I love the idea of the goodie bags and think I will steal it. The bookmarks are fabulous too and felt so grateful to get one. Jessie is full of such good ideas. Well so are you so it's no wonder your related. what ink did you use for the letter?

what what a treat to receive! seriously those are nice nice gifts...and cleaning a room from scratch...it is always a joy of mine, but can't understand why they don't last long enough@

How could the Laurels not love you after that? They just scored big time. Now I have to figure out how I can steal this idea or file it away for future use. I should just start a file named, "All things cute and incredibly creative".

I love what you have been working on. Your Laurels are lucky girls. How did you do the scalloped tag? I have been looking everywhere for a large scalloped punch and I have been unsuccessful. I'd love to know what you are using.

My other comment...I love your picture wall! It is set up beautifully.
