I was planning on doing a retrospective on my 36th year, but Jill did it for me!
So, in condensed form, when I was 36, I:
- discovered I have plantar fasciitis and gave away almost all of my shoes!
- had knee surgery
- moved to Paris for the 3rd time
- welcomed my wonderful book club to Paris!
- moved back home
- had surgery on the other knee
- iced my knees every night for months
- enjoyed every minute of the last few weeks with Jessie
- said a tearful goodbye as my only sister moved far, far away
- was the recipient of so many acts of service
- killed many mice
- felt verklempt at seeing my oldest child start junior high
- loved having two sets of grandparents here for Lucas's baptism
- finally got our new carpet!!
- met some new blog friends
- got to enjoy Thanksgiving in Denver with my favorite people in the world (-Jessie and her family)
- completed some fun creative projects
- enjoyed a calmer Christmas season
- bemoaned the fact that our furnace (and our main circuit breakers) died two days before Christmas
- read a lot of good books
- learned how to do two kinds of bookbinding (Thanks, Amy!)
- held onto my word "free" -- I still need a lot of work in that department
- was the primary pianist
- took a lot of self-portraits
- had some nasty dental work done
- became a flosser
- missed Jessie every day for the past 7 1/2 months
- finally freed myself from the disastrous mess in my studio!!!
- enjoyed so many wonderful friendships
It's been a good year, despite the trials.
Jessie recently told me that 37 sounded really old. Katrina told me I've reached that age. When I asked what that age is, she delivered the bad news: it's the age when unwanted hair starts growing in all sorts of strange places. Huh. Well, despite the fact that I've apparently reached two not-so-pretty landmarks, I'm really looking forward to whatever 37 brings.

Happy Birthday Michelle! You'll make a wonderful 37. It was fun to read your list and (because of your blogging) remember the events right along with you.
Have a happy, happy day.
to my freshman roomate, who is amazing, an incredible cook (at least it looks good in photos) musical (i still remember watching your practice the piano in the basement of DT through the 4 inch window when i did my laundry) has a magical creative touch - everything you do has your creative stamp on it and has always been good to me....

Happy birthday...I have enjoyed getting a glimpse of part of your 36th year...you have such a charming life. Hope San Francisco is wonderful.
Happy Birthday!
How does someone from Utah move to Paris and then away again 3 times?
I didn't say it sounded really old, just 'older'-closer to 40.
i miss you, and your birthday brought me out of a blogging hiatus.
happy birthday :)
Happy Birthday! (I thought 35 was the age, glad to know I was wrong)
I bet if I'd grown up with you I would have been terribly jealous of your March birthday, what with you heading off to the church dances 6 months ahead of me.
Happy Birthday!!!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I loved learning more about you on Jill's post today. I'm sure you'll manage 37 with as much grace as ever!
I'm not keen on Jessie and Katrina's thoughts on 37, so I'm not going to take those as fact.
You've had a crazy, but good year and I hope this one is even better! Happy Birthday Michelle!!
Happy Birthday sweet friend! I hope you had a great day!
Happy Happy birthday...you have had quite a year! Way to go.
I guess I'm feeling verklempt that my oldest is 37!!!How I can recall the day you were born and how naiive I was in every way from childbirth to child rearing! When I see your style and talent at mothering, I always wish I had had the same gift.
Sorry I couldn't comment on "the day". That quick hospital stay took me for a loop! It sounds like you had a wonderful day filled with the fond wishes of many, many friends.
I for one, am greatful you were born. I love you.
Happy 37!
well, I feel special, since my comment will be comment number 37! Well, I definately think it is a good age...anything before 40 really...NO JUST KIDDING...but being 40 really hasn't struck me, I think turning 41 will really make me think WOW i am 40! HEY IT sounded like a pretty good year, despite all the woes, flossing is good, and do not dispair, the plantar fa....will disipate and you will be able to wear cute shoes again! I have had a wonderful time getting to know you and still can't get over how cute cute cute my christmas present was wrapped! so happy birthday to you. have a wonderful time in sf.
you deserve it, and what a way to start your year!
Sorry I missed it yesterday, but I hope you had a wonderful birthday, and that 37 treats you very kindly!

happiest birthday to you michelle!!! so glad i've had the chance to meet such a wonderful and lovely person.
This is a cool list...a fabulous way to look back on your year. It looks like a good one and I hope this next year will be even better. Happy Happy Birthday!!
BTW i am loving your banner. so cool.
This is impressive to be able to summarize your year like this. It makes me realize that we do have a lot of time in a year even though they seem to roll by before I think I have started it..
