Between getting early gifts and having my book club birthday party on the 5th, it feels like the birthday festivities have been going on for quite some time!
Natasha sent me some Barefoot Contessa brownie mix and an Easter tea towel to kick off my birthday month -- I like the way she thinks! (Natasha, I haven't made them yet, but my children are anxiously waiting.)
Hannah brought by a cute basket on Monday, filled with three different kinds of homemade cookies to kick off my birthday week!
Even though Marc wasn't back 100%, he insisted he was staying home with Eva so I could have some time away on my birthday. He has done this for several years now, and while I always appreciate it, I needed it this year in a big way.
Jill came to pick me up and we saw 27 Dresses at the dollar theater. (Good old Movies 8!) Originally I didn't really care about seeing this movie, but Jill said that Lori had seen it twice and really liked it. As a bonus, Jill hadn't seen it yet, and it was at the dollar theater, and it was starting at a great time. Normally we go to lunch and then to a movie, but then we're too full from lunch to fully enjoy the popcorn. This time we avoided that problem neatly by hitting the theater first. Jill even brought m&ms -- nice touch -- but partway through the bag fell through the cup holder and the m&ms went rolling down to unknown parts. The movie was cute, I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would, although Jill and I both had a big problem with the main character's sister (I'm sure she is not meant to be likeable, but we both found her singularly abhorrent).
our lunch at nearby Training Table -- it there's anything more decadent than cheese fries with fry sauce, I don't know what it is!
Oh wait, that would be the Never on Sundae that we shared... a warm chocolate chip cookie topped with ice cream, caramel, chocolate sauce, and whipped cream. Wow.
This was just one of those funny moments -- Jill dripped a little ice cream on her sweater, but when she went to wipe it off with her napkin, her napkin had ice cream on it and it spread it all around, it was quite comical.
Jill made me a hard copy card of her blog birthday post (such a cool gift) and this framed photo of us with a great quote on top -- I had never heard this quote before, and I think it articulates exactly what our friendship is all about.
She also bought me two sweaters! (wonderful, springy sweaters with elbow-length and 3/4 length sleeves) She knows me so well. It was too generous, but I do enjoy it when she picks out clothes for me!
We went to the mall to briefly scope for Easter clothes for the kids, then came back to my house and I opened the packages I had received:
Jessie sent me the cutest foam stamps with giant brackets and braces -- it makes me want a Hobby Lobby!
... and she made me this darling art piece -- she cut all those holes in the chipboard by hand! I don't think I would have attempted it, but that is her genius in action.
and this huge box of chipboard alphabets, frames, and shapes from Timm! I am so set on chipboard now.
My parents are giving me two tickets to go visit Jessie!!! (truth be told, that's all I really wanted for my birthday) But of course, my mom couldn't not give a physical gift, so she also sent me this cute black/white jacket and some makeup. The Stila eye shadows actually have a button inside that you press to hear an audio guide to getting "the smoky eye" -- hilarious!
Carlo sent me these adorable cards from Stationery With Style -- I love them!
Barb sent me some Crystal Light from Canada -- she knew I would appreciate the bilingual packaging, so funny.
Tasha sent me a lipstick case she got in San Francisco's Chinatown and a cute little zebra-print photo album.
Jenn brought by this beautiful box of chocolates in the most unusual flavors -- I am going to have a hard time sharing them with my family...
Lucas and Max made me these cute cards. Marc asked Eva if she wanted to make one, too, and she said, "yes! for you, Dad!" That's my daddy's girl.
I intercepted Collette and Jill as they were coming to my house and I was going out to do some errands -- Collette brought me The Book Club Cook Book, what a great idea!
Marc's parents took us out for a birthday dinner last night and I chose California Pizza Kitchen as a good compromise for picky eater kids and parents who enjoy more sophisticated tastes. I was so happy to discover that they will still make the pear gorgonzola pizza even though they took it off the menu! (I also discovered that it was that most popular pizza in Utah and very unpopular elsewhere -- who knew that Utahns had such refined palates??)
My sister-in-law Michelle brought me this basket-o-gifts. The book, though its title is unseemly, is quite humorous -- it has photos of men doing household chores and saying things like: "There are only a few sheets of t.p. left; I'd better change it now." and "As soon as I finish the laundry, I'll do the grocery shopping. And I'll take the kids with me so you can relax."
She also gave me a pear/pistachio tart, homemade marshmallows, a polka-dot headband, cute tissues, and a box of 4 of the cutest little journals you've ever seen!
Marc made my favorite German chocolate cake -- I never seem to want anything else for my birthday cake, and he is the master at making it now, I think he has surpassed me on this one. Eva was happy to help me blow out the candles. It was delicious, and I even had a little piece for breakfast this morning...
If you're still with me after this marathon post, let me just say -- I had a great birthday -- and I'm sure you can see why! Thanks to all my great friends and family for making me feel so loved.

I miss Training Table! I saw the picture of your food before I read the description and I knew instantly that it was Training Table. Ohhhh - cheese fries. Ohhhh - fry sauce. How I miss thee!
You sure have some great friends. Glad to hear you had a fun birthday.
I'm so glad you had such a wonderful celebration day!
I do have to tell you that I'm seething with jealousy, though. :) I gasped out loud when I saw your pear gorgonzola photo! It was the most popular pizza here, too. But, they will *NOT* make it for you. Perhaps a visit to CPK in Utah is in order when I am in Utah in May. Well, at least I'm glad to know if they'll make it for someone, they made it for you! And I'm thrilled for you to get to go see Jessie! I'm sure that's a gift for both of you.
What a fabulous birthday!! SO many fun things you got! Yay! I'm glad you were able to go and have fun with Jill on your birthday. I really wanted to see that movie...did you know that Katherine Heigl use to live in my Stake here in CT, she was/still might be Mormon. Kind of interesting. Anyway, I am glad your birthday was a good one!
What - no Hobby Lobby out there? I had no idea! I love ours and it's conveniently close to my office.
Fun too see your treats and how good all of your family and friends were to you on your birthday.
I want to know how to make homemade marshmallows.
Glad the brownies made it to you, you never know the way some of our mail has gone around the world and back. I know how you feel about box mixes, but Barefoot Contessa won't disappoint!
What a fantastic recap! I love birthday weeks and months and this is some serious goodness. The tickets to see Jessie- wow, that is just so generous! What a gift to you both. I love the art work piece, Training Table's cheese fries and sauce, the pizza! Excellent.
I really don't think I've EVER had a birthday to compare!!! You have a bundle of the best friends I have ever hear of!!
We sell the Barefoot Contessa mixes at Black-eyed Susan! They're pretty darn good!
That mascara is my newest favorite kind, however I realized that I picked up a very dark color--you may want to exchange it! It's awesome. It lasted through TWO nights in the hospital and still looked good the third day!!
Glad you had such a fun day.
Yes, Kelly and I will be heading to CPK for some gorgonzola pear pizza in May! I was so disappointed we couldn't get it in Oregon anymore.
I have never had cheese fries or fry sauce. (Utahn's refined palates?)
I love the quote overlay/photo gift. The talking eyeshadow is funnYYYY.
You had a great day of friends and family, and a promise of future time with Jessie. Sounds pretty perfect to me.
That all sounds so fun! I usually don't do much for my birthday, but after reading this, I think I need to take advantage of the day a bit more.
I'm so happy that your birthday turned out so great. I feared that Marc would still be sick or that you and the boys would get it, so it's such a great blessing and birthday gift that everyone was well for your special day.
It's great to see all the birthday goodness that came your way!
1. Happy Belated Birthday!
2. I love your new(?) banner.
3. That pizza is my favorite...but another really good one is the curry one. Delicious!
looks like a delightful day of celebrations. Happy Birhtday!!
and that is the way it should be-- celebrations all over town and wishes from all over the country.
i am so happy that you had a happy, happy day(s!)
Happy Birthday GORGEOUS! Your birthday feast sounds HEAVENLY! I love that you went over to another restaraunt to indulge your sweet tooth! Of all the days in the year, your birthday is a great excuse to live it up!
I so love German Chocolate Cake. Glad to hear you got some needed spoiling on your birthday!
{love, love Jill's picture/quote gift to you!...both of you are among my creative idols!}
I love seeing you day... it looks like a great one. How can it not be with Jill in charge?!
Did you know there is a Hobby Lobby in Riverton (I think it is in the 10000's south and Bangeter).. every time I pass I wonder if it is something good? I am guessing yes if Jessie is a fan?
Happy Birthday! I hope you have a fabulous year.
oh wow...what a fabulous pizza...i love that one too. those merci cards are amazing....and as always your outings are the best. Hope you had a wonderful birthday, and can I say....how generous your mum is...and those plane tickets...what a treat!
