successful Creative Thursday

As Jill reported, we had Creative Thursday this week (the steak edition). Eva has discovered watercolors, so painting kept her occupied for a little while, as did "markos" (markers). She seemed thrilled to be creating at the table with us. Don't tell her this, but I was glad when she went down for her nap and I could actually be productive.

I believe this little button creation was an octopus...

I worked on a box of wedding cards. Remember the service auction that we had for Enrichment a few weeks ago? I donated a box of handmade cards, and the recipient requested wedding cards. Well, I forgot all about it until about a week ago! Sheesh. I was so relieved to get them done and to not have that hanging over me anymore. (Not that I don't enjoy doing it or am not willing to do it, it's just that any time I have a project that I need to finish, I feel like it's hanging over me.) That is the beauty of Creative Fridays (or Thursdays, or Mondays, as the case may be) -- I give myself permission to work only on creative projects. I don't schedule anything else, and I don't feel guilty about the other things that are currently vying for my attention.

That, and of course the one-on-one, in-person friendship-building that occurs as Jill and I just sit and chat while we work. We hadn't been able to do this in weeks, and I was feeling so out of touch, but one Creative Thursday was all it took for me to feel re-connected and just so right. That's the very best part. (oh, and a yummy steak lunch, courtesy of Jill, and Cadbury mini eggs didn't hurt, either!)

{Jill's very pleasing stack of goodies from Paper Source!}

Griffin discovered "markos" or as he says "mawk-hussss" and tried them out all over my place mats not too long ago.

I like how you and Jill carve out creative time. This time of year, time can be a real luxury!

I could use a smug mug gallery of wedding cards to look through today! (I need to make a wedding card for Ken's cousin's wedding in two weeks)

indeed it is a very very pleasing stash of goodies...good thing, because I am going to bed, but with a beautiful picture in my head. STEAK sounds glorious. Good thing you finished up...I don't think I can be creative until the house is quieted down, but now I am soo tired so it is off to bed.

Jill's stack of goodies is pleasing, indeed. I'm quite jealous of your creative days together! And, I'm still missing Eva's amusing and often witty banter.

I think our Creative Fridays (no matter what day they're on) are totally therapeutic and inspiring. We've been doing this for so many years now that it's kind of amazing to think about how the kids have grown and how our lives have changed.

Your wedding cards turned out so great, I'm sure the recipient will love them.

It's probably a very good approach to just set aside one day devoted to creativeness. I try to scatter it across each day, but it always hurried and stressed-out.

Ahh, wedding cards. So cute. I'm embroiled in a wedding happening on Sat 8th Dec. I just hand-wrote 74 table setting cards tonight, and have a table plan to complete by Friday!

My friend Emily and I had one successful Creative Thursday, and we need to get back to it! It's a great kind of refreshing thing, and you and Jill are an inspiration. It's so nice you got a chance to reconnect before the crazy of the holidays begins.
