relieved

My sweet friends Jill and Jenn came to my rescue today. Jill called to see if I needed help, and I tried to reassure her that I would be fine, that I really didn't need their help after all. The shot seems to be helping already, I can walk fairly well now, yada yada yada. I tried to sound convincing, because 1) I still have a hard time accepting this kind of help (e.g., cleaning) -- and I can't tell you how many times I've had to accept it -- and 2) I really thought I could handle it.

I'm a chump.

Fortunately, they ignored me and came anyway. There is no way I could have handled this on my own! Jill came armed with a diet Coke from Sonic and a plan. They moved large and awkward pieces of furniture, mattresses, etc. Jenn brought us homemade caramel (divine), vacuumed my stairs and carried up my laundry (both things I couldn't do) and took a carload of junk to D.I. for me. Ethan entertained Eva.

Jenn left for D.I. and her school pick-up, and Jill picked up all of Eva's toys. (Again, I thought I could handle that, but there was a lot of knee-stress-inducing bending involved.) While I put Eva down for a nap, she vacuumed the whole upstairs.

Just as I was bemoaning the fact that we hadn't caught the mouse yet, and therefore I couldn't put away all the newly-sanitized items that go under the oven, I peeked in and he was indeed caught in the trap!

This sight saddened Jill (apparently she had mice as pets growing up), but I was elated. In true Jill style, she pulled the oven away from the wall -- why do I never think of doing that? -- and bleached the walls and floor. Hopefully no mouse will find anything of interest around there now!

I was able to put everything away and it is all clean and shiny now.

After Jill left, I finished up the invitations to Lucas's baptism and my circle journal to send to Jessie. I was able to go grocery shopping and fold all my laundry. I am completely wasted, but I feel great because I got so much done today -- because there were three of me! (Well, actually more like 5 of me, because Jenn & Jill were easily twice as capable as I today.)

My friends rock.

You have AMAZING friends! A mouse on top of all that pain...far too much to deal with.

That is sooo nice of Jill and Jenn to come to the rescue like that! I think it is fabulous that they managed to get so much done for you! What a blessing.

I am amazed at how quickly the mouse was caught and the clean up! Great! Hope you don't get any more furry visitors!

Hooray! I am so happy and relieved for you that the mouse is caught! And so glad Jill stayed to help clean up after it! I hope you have a great time with your parents in town!

(and I had no problems dropping stuff off at DI- I even had time to pick up a vanilla shake for the long drive to Saratoga! so glad you let me come help!!)

You failed to mention that I disposed of the mouse for you! I was explaining to Randy that you feel about mice the way I feel about spiders, and he said "You mean you can get rid of a dead mouse, but you can't kill a spider??" I replied, "Yes!" To which he could only shake his head in utter disbelief and walk away. It seems perfectly logical to me.

I left your house feeling very satisfied with the amount of work we got done and with the time spent together. I think it's nice to be able to provide another you, especially while you're battling your gimpy knees. I'm definitely thankful for my nongimpy knees and am happy to help.

Mice give me the utter creeps! Or, as Denise says, "they creep me out!"

THAT is the measure of a true friend!!!

thanks, Jill!

Michelle, so glad you had some help today - We've had mice before too, in DC and hated, hated it! It just makes me shiver. I was hoping you had gotten my goodmail and was grateful for your card. Thanks for letting me know. Good Luck - no more mice!

Your friends do rock! I need help or rather ideas on rearranging my house, any takers?

Isn't it amazing what our bodies are able to do for us and the loop that it sends us on when we're laid up? Bummer. I hope that your knee will heal quickly.

Good job on the dead mouse, yeah!

How nice of them! I'm so sorry that you're having so much pain from your knee surgery. That totally sucks. I'm so glad that you didn't have to take care of the mouse by yourself. We had mice (yes mice!) in our condo a few years ago. I wouldn't even go downstairs until Jeremy went to check on the traps. It was especially nice of Jill considering her affinity (who knew) for those little rodents!

This is all around awesome Michelle. The caught mouse, the cleaning, the friends that rock!

I relate the the chump feelings- esp when accepting the help with cleaning when I couldn't earlier this year. Someday you will be able to help someone out in the same way and know how hard it is for them to accept it and how good it feels to be able to offer it.

Have fun with your parents here- sad for you that Jess can't be here!

Your friends do rock! That's the kind of friend I want to be, but I generally just listen and wouldn't have just come over anyway if you said not to. But that's what you really needed so they were truly listening. Love that! It's inspiring, really.

I'm so glad you caught your mouse, and it's over! When we had one before, an exterminator recommended putting steel wool around where your water and gas pipes come into the kitchen walls. Mice can squeeze through a hole smaller than a dime, but they don't like steel wool. That's not a current knee job, so have an able-kneed person do it!

Enjoy your time with your parents!

Your friends rock. Serious it is so nice of them to come armed and with a plan ready to go. You lucky girl.

The mouse thing is cracking me up. I read Jill's comment and to think that she would rather deal with a mice. I am with you. I could kill and spider any day, but mice just freak me out. I guess that's why we all come so different, so we can help each other out.

I have a hard time with cleaning help. I'm so glad you let them in, they are such great friends and so willing to help. No sense in denying them blessings, right? =)

Yeah for the dead mouse. Oh that sounds morbid but really it's a good thing!

What, Jill likes mice but not spiders? I get the willies just thinking about mice.

Your friends are the best, seriously. I have some true friends but that said . . . I have never cleaned a friend's house or had one clean mine - the thought had never even occured to me until I began reading blogs and seeing that you all help like this. A friend in my playgroup was put on bedrest a while back and the rest of us pitched in and PAID one of our housekeepers to come clean her home. And we thought THAT was nice.

Jill + vacuum = clean house. You have great friends, that is clear. Must be so hard not to be able to do everything yourself but hopefully the healing will happen soon. Maybe you need some Glucosamine/Chondroitin supplements (they are the building blocks of cartilage) to get your knees healing. It's used for arthritis. Just an idea. Check at the Good Earth. Might help??

who knew a dead mouse would elicit 20+ comments?
your friends are a comfort to me when i can't be there to help. Plus, they probably do a lot more than i would, unfortunately.
missing you guys...

and a MOUSE? michelle, i would have freaked! dave and i were watching tv one night and i fell asleep on the couch only to have dave wake me up to help him catch a mouse in our front room. it had gotten in while the kids were playing outside and the door was left open all day. i had such a hard time calming down from that one. just thinking about it makes me freak out all over again. shudder, shudder! so glad you caught it.

and you do have the most amazing friends. you are blessed. and they are blessed to have such an amazing friend in you! the three of you are HAPPINESS MAKERS!
