...and like the proverbial girl with the little curl, she can be very, very good... or she can be horrid!
It's truly amazing to me how very opinionated she is, how utterly unable to listen to reason (yes, I know she's 2), and how volatile those little girl emotions can be. She can go from happy to infuriated in two seconds flat.
Lately she really has not been getting enough sleep. She has a special ability to keep herself awake when she is tired, and she wakes up before she's gotten all the rest she needs. 6:00 a.m. is her new wake-up time, and she's only been napping for about one hour in the afternoon. Last night, she cried in her crib until 10:30 p.m., so she really had a short night.
For the last several days, she has cried and screamed for hours during the day, I'm sure because she's just so tired. (Why resist sleep? I'll never understand.) She's driven her normally infatuated dad to distraction, and she has us all throwing up our hands in frustration.
There is a reason that Heavenly Father made little children so dang cute -- if she didn't have those moments of being utterly charming and adorable, I don't know how we would get through it at all.

oh, my... your photos capture the mood of this post so perfectly!! my jack has always been a "sleep resistor." thank goodness they ARE so cute!
She is so cute! Ahhh! My heart- but keeping yourself awake and being miserable about it sounds HORRIBLE
That second picture is PERFECT! I LOVE it. And I love her dress- my girls were never dressed so cute!
Sorry about her horrible resistance to sleep- she truly has a gift for fighting it and that is NOT RIGHT for a mom! Hoping she crashed hard today!
She is so that way! You did an excellent job with these pictures, I can't believe the tears on the last one. What is going on inside her to make her this way? Who ever heard of a chronically sleep-resistant child? It's just not right.
I know EXACTLY how you feel. My 3 year old rarely sleeps. It is SO frustrating. The pictures are precious.
Those pictures are SO cute! And Eva definitely reminds me of Sarah; sometimes she's great and helpful and pleasant and then in a split second she's having a tantrum and screaming at John. It's a good thing kids are cute in certain moments!
Let's hope this sleep resistance will wear off very very soon (like tonight!)
WOW...look at those crocodile tears....i guess we forget how we were as little girls...my mom always said, just wait until you have a daughter....so far i will be waiting....but aren't they sooo adorable. she looks soo cute...i love girly girls
I am so with you, Michelle. And she is a doll, tears or not! Great photos!
I truly thought I'd be done with this phase with my 3-yr-old. Sadly, not yet. And yet we do get through the days, no? I wish you perseverance and patience, and a tinge of nostalgia - right around the time they leave this phase, some innocence is lost, as well. You can do it! Look at those handsome big boys running through your house!
Gee... I wonder who taught Eva such sleeep-resistence skills? It's not like her brothers had any sleep issues.... :p
Again, great photo journalism!! I love the sly look on the 2nd one.. She's scheming, I can tell.
Snap! Isla has an intolerance. Her body can't seem to absorb sleep. An incredibly light sleeper too. You only have to flick the light switch in the next room and she's awake.
I think Eva's at that tricky age where she's probably desperate to communicate more specifically to you and she just can't get it across. I remember Erin being like that, and I put it down to a language thing. As their vocab develops I think they settle more...
*shoos flying pigs away*
I must post my pic of moany Isla for you!
such a beautiful little girl! i can relate to the tears pictures. i had been counting my blessings that k got through his terrible twos, but with less than a month until he turns 3, we're seeing more and more of the tantrums. i second the thought that kids have to be cute to keep us from tossing them. :)
I could have written this post today Michelle- or any of the last 3 days. This.exact.post. I feel for you and hope we both make it through. At least this is your one and only girl to get through- I am already starting to wonder when/if it will start for Kaylee.
Hang on.
All I can say, is I would go through anything for those photos!!! The dress, WAY too cute, and that makes me sooooo glad you had a girl this time! She is a pill, for sure, but an oh-h-h-h-h so cute pill!!!
Hint: I would be blissfully happy with a set of those photos for any needed gift!
All I can say is I totally feel your pain. She is so adorable though. Weston has become quite painful as of late. I am not sure I like this early terrible 2 stages. I guess you said it best, it's a good thing their cute! :)
I love the picture of the tears. My friend said her mom said that poem to her as a girl all the time and her daughter is now the same way. It's hard when kids get out of routines to keep them happy. Have you ever heard of Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child? He talks about kids so beyond tired they do keep themselves awake. Hopefully when life settles down and she is once again going to sleep earlier at night, she'll let you sleep in in the mornings. It's just so hard when they're two and want to make their own decisions isn't it?
Yes, good thing they are dang cute!
Does she fall asleep in the car? and stay asleep? This was always our last resort. In fact, my hubs did this so much, the neighbors just mused, 'Oh, there they go, putting their kids to sleep'!hahaha
Oh my. Chloe refused to takes naps around 3 or 4 - it was like a bad word or something! She would need it so bad & just resist. Why???
I'll never know. Cutest pix!!!
Oh, Michelle...yes, they are two but they are oh. so. terrible. Your photos are just perfect for this post. So glad, I am not alone, and here's to saner days soon!
So good to see you again the other night!
Yeah, um, good luck with that! :)
She sure is a beauty, though and you captured her so well with these pictures! Love that last one!
i'm going to copy and paste this to my blog and insert the name hanna. i love it.
your pictures are great! i love the first. are you using the 50 mm lens? great depth of field.
p.s. good luck with that sleep thing. it can be soooo trying...
Does that fabulous offer from your mom make it worth it?
Rally the cutest pictures ever. You need on of those frames with three spots to frame the moods.
The song with the little girl and the curl totally reminds me of my grandma. She used to sing it to us all the time.
I was told that poem many times as a little girl with curls. It really are those cute moments that carry you through. I need to write a poem for my little guy.
yes, it is true, He made them adorable and cute and irresistable so as to make up for all those moments of extreme frustration caused by them. I love the pictures of her, she is definitely a cutie!
did you get a new camera???
your photos are amazing on these past two posts!
this is so my caroline. today caroline was in bible school all day with annie kate and it was just me and sj. i had forgotten what it was like to go to a store without someone screaming and grabbing everything on the shelves.
hang in there girl and if you want any screaming advice let me know!
Michelle, she is such a doll! OK, a doll with an attitude but would you have it any other way. I mean when she isn't throwing a fit that is. LOVE these photos and take your mom up on the gift idea. I never know what to get my mom that has everything. These 2 photos are perfect for a grandma!
I've read your later post, so I'm glad you are now having a better time together. Oh those toddler phases! But, the dress. Is that the Paris dress? I think you need to frame it somehow -- or something. It is the cutest dress ever!
