We had a great holiday yesterday. Jessie, Timm, Bella, Mim and Bob all came for a cookout and some outdoor fun.
Eva and I made Nieman-Marcus chocolate chip cookies for homemade ice cream sandwiches. She kept saying, "I'm a helper girl!" the entire time.
I loaded this photo in an effort to be inclusive, but it is mighty hard to be in a picture next to Jessie...
Double yay!! Marc didn't go to work! (He took the boys to see Ratatouille -- they all loved it.)
Eva looking back to see how long she can stall before Bella gets impatient for her turn. (turns out, it's a really long time.)
(p.s. she has some very cute sunglasses that actually fit her, but she wears these instead.)
Look at those rosy cheeks from the heat! Which leads us to:
that is some serious watermelon enjoyment! (how can he stand that it's dripping off his elbow?)
The little girls couldn't last until it was dark enough to do fireworks, so that was left to me, Marc, Max and Lucas. Fireworks transport me back to my childhood. Marc wanted to set the whole box alight at once -- it would be spectacular and fast! We decided to do them one at a time. We ended up having to bring Jack out on his leash because he was barking at the fireworks.
In short (well, not really!) a good time was had by all. Today I have been sad thinking about the fact that Jessie, Timm and Bella won't be here for the next 4th of July...

i have been reading your blog for awhile now and have loved feeling like I got to experience Paris - thanks for sharing.
Hope you're enjoying being home.
You took some seriously great photos, wow!
I'm so glad you included the photo of you with Jessie, you look great and you two are so color coordinated and festive.
I'm glad it was such a great day!
How appropriate that Eva calls the pool the "cool!"
The pic of you with your sister is cute!

What wonderful photos, Michelle! They're beautiful. I used your raspberry spinach salad recipe today in my weekly newsletter. Thanks again for a gift that always gives.
Great shots! I too am glad you posted the one of you and Jessie and love that you coordinate. You guys are cute!
The 25th is coming too fast...
Sounds like a great day- I'm jealous of your fabulous photos (including the one with you in it!!). My camera went through 3 sets of batteries and minimal pictures. Ugh.
Great pictures! Your captured the day perfectly. I love the picture of you and Jessie (with your real smile) and the one of Eva in her glasses. Really they are all great those two just stuck out to me.
Your photos are amazing! What kind of camera do you use? With what lens? I'm just getting into the whole photography thing.
Love the pictures!
A brilliant pictorial timeline! I feel like I was there with you. Haha!
Erin calls herself a 'helpy elfy' when she's helping me.
I agree with you on the watermelon drip. That's irritating me, just looking at it! Haha!
You are a great photographer wow!
It looks like everyone had such a great time together. Eva and Bella are so lucky to have each other. I'm so glad you live here with hopes that it will bring Jessie back for some visits!
Those are all great photos. I'm glad you could be with family. Those two are darling little cousins.
Thanks for the lovely photo trip! Your photo essay made me remember all of my fourth celebrations from my childhood... I am a bit sniffly...
I wish you could see the smile on my face! I can never decide if the writing is the best or the photos!
Wow, you amaze me! The whole series tells the story as if I were there! Thank you.
The photos, the journaling, the day, it's all just saturated with Americana nostalgia. Aren't you so glad you were back in the US for the holiday? It's my favorite one.
