Now that we're really down to the wire on our time left here in Paris (4 days, including today!!), we decided to divide and conquer.
Today Marc took Lucas to La Défense, since he has been wanting to see it, and Max wasn't really that interested. Max and I had plans to go walking along some bridges to soak in the atmosphere and take photos, but then it started to rain. We needed an indoor plan, so we decided to visit the Musée d'Orsay.
As usual, it wasn't a perfect visit. I found out that the photography exhibit about hands that I wanted to see doesn't start until Tuesday. Eva was tired but only slept for about 20 minutes, so she was cranky and ready to leave before we were. But, it was still worthwhile. I had some quality time with Max (I was surprised how different it was to be out with only 2 children), we saw some great art, and we connected in our photographic aims.
I know I've said it before, but one thing I love about museums in Paris is that the architecture of the buildings themselves are just as wonderful as the art within. I just can't get enough.
A walkway of glass block seen from below -- we got a kick out of knowing that ours were the feet people could see when we walked across...
We saw another artist commissioned to do a reproduction! She was just putting away her paints and brushes, which were so appealing to me.
Jill, remember we had a print of this painting in our apartment when we lived together?
I am always amazed by how sculptors manage to make stone look like draping fabric, metal, or real flowers...
I'm not sure why this speaks to me so. It is just happy. Maybe, like Shawna told me once, a little lemon makes anything better! I totally agree.
I love the way Max is as excited about the photos as I am! Love to see his eye developing.
Love love love this Degas -- the tactile nature of the fabric and the ribbon on the bronze speaks to my very soul.
Seeing this made the whole visit worthwhile. Max and I gasped simultaneously at the photo opportunity!

What fun for you and Max to share photo opportunities. I love to give Luci a camera and see what she comes up with.
Only 4 days left? I can hardly believe it went so fast. I'm sure you feel the same way.
Your photos are amazing and the museum is very pleasing to me too. I can't pick my favorites from this post. I LOVE them all!!
I love it there so much. I have the same photo through the clock! I can stand in front of his ballerina statues forever.I am sad you only have 4 more days left.
Great post,as usual! I'm sad to think of you leaving Paris! I like thinking of you there, some vicarious living I suppose! I hope you're not dreading the trip home too much. I'm starting now calling in special favors in my prayers.....You will have quite the collection of fabulous photos!
I love seeing your pictures, though they're making me a little bit sick since my visit to this museum was so brief. I loved what I saw though and am so glad you took a picture of that fabulous Monet. My batteries had died in at that point of my visit, but I love that painting and liked it even more after seeing Giverny. It felt more like seeing a picture than a painting.
merci merci merci for sharing those fabulous fotos....i am in love with paris so this is such a treat for me. i love that you and max had such a good time together and too bad that eva wasn't being such a good sport....can't believe your trip is comming to an end...
I WANT THE LEMON PAINTING!!!!!!!! DO you think one of those replica painters would do it for me as a commissioned piece? I think that alone might solve my nasty depression once and for all.
Love the Degas!
Definitely one of my favorite museums. You are so right - the architecture there is stunning, truly thrilling to walk those halls. I have a shot of Jer looking out of that clock - my fave photo of our little trip!
oh the pics...lovely.
the degas grabbed my heart!
