all's well that ends well

Good news: I only had to have ONE knee operated on on Monday!

The surgeon thought we should leave well enough alone with my right knee, since it seems to be healing pretty well from the previous surgery, and hopefully that will do the trick. I was shocked to hear that he didn't find a tear or injury in my left knee, as I was convinced that was what was causing all this pain, but he thinks it's just arthritis. So, he's going for the minimally invasive route, and I am just hoping that I will be on the path to being able to walk pain-free again (and, who knows?, maybe even ride my bike!).

So far so good. I think this recovery will be easier because we are not getting ready to leave the country. And since I was prepared to be in a wheelchair for a few days, and on crutches for 3 weeks, this now seems easy breezy. Marc is able to be around, and he's been taking care of me and everything else. Pretty nice! (as Eva would say) I'm not able to sleep as much as I would like because of the pain (thus my 4:00 a.m. post), but other than that I'm doing pretty well.

Incidentally, this is my 401st post! woohoo!

And, I have some good mail to report:

Jessie sent me a package in Paris, which was returned to her. It was a bonanza! It included this lovely box of flowers

a handmade Mother's Day gift

as well as some little envelopes of still more flowers, and a hilarious postcard from Real Simple reminding me to check my moles for any signs of change! (So good to know she cares.) Oh, and an ad from Michael's showcasing the new Martha Stewart Crafts line -- I can't believe no one told me about that!!

When our book club met last week for "lounge club", Amy brought me the most darling gift!:

a very cute handmade bag, and if that wasn't enough, she filled it with goodies she has discovered since I've been gone!

two items from MS Crafts, two items from the new Amy Butler scrapbook line, and some fat quarters from a fabric store she discovered. All so very pleasing, and color-coordinated, to boot!

Tasha sent this wonderful children's book. I love it!! I don't know how she is managing to send out good mail with a newborn and an impending move... I guess I'd better get on the ball.

Thanks for thinking of me, girls, it definitely made the transition home sweeter!

Okay, I'm still wondering where the mail I sent you in Paris is floating around? :)
I'm glad to hear your surgery went well.
I love all of the new Martha Stewart stuff at Michaels but it is WAY overpriced. I was talking to a cashier there about it and she said lots of shoppers are looking/commenting but not really buying. There is a brown/pink wrapping paper in the new line that you would love though!

oh great news on the knee!!!! hoping a fast recovery for you.

love your good mail and the bag? adorable!

that paris book is the same author who wrote the This is New York book that I bought for Ellie while I was there last weekend. isn't it fab? I adore the NYC version and want to be sure to get the other cities as we travel. Children's books are a fave purchase when I am traveling.Ellie hasn't put it down since I brought it home.

I am so glad you are doing better than expected! Arthritis doesn't sound too good but neither did double knee surgery so I think you are ahead...

That bag from Amy is fabulous!!! AND filled with good things... more fabulous.

Great stuff from everyone else too.I also need to get back on the bandwagon.

Hooray about your knee. That is great news. I've really enjoyed all your paris posts. The one about the tastes of paris left my mouth watering.

I'm so relieved they only operated on the left knee, I still can't figure out how you were supposed to recover without putting weight on either knee. Ouch!

It's grim that your sleep is being interrupted by pain, but I'm happy that you're blogging in the time.

Jessie's good mail is fabulous, especially the Mother's Day card.

I can't get over Amy's awesome bag and all the goodies inside, what a great idea!

That book from Tasha is very cool too, how is she sending good mail right now?

I hope today is less painful for you.

So great about only one knee needing the op. I can't imagine having both legs out of commission with 3 kids and a husband to take care of. So glad they are taking care of you.

The books that Jessie made are so beautiful- so, so beautiful! I have those same flowers and love all the colors!

You have such a great attitude about your knee! What a relief to only have one operated on. Like Jill said, I don't understand how you would have functioned with both needing to recover!

That bag from Amy is darling! So cute. I also am loving the Martha stuff. It's packaged so pleasingly and displayed so nicely (weird for Michaels) in the store that it's a joy just to go look at it.

I am glad that Marc is around, and like you said, that you aren't planning on leaving the country this time around... You were such a trooper in Paris with all of your pain - I hope this ends that for you!
