Here's my mothod of getting around these days (courtesy of my neighbor Heidi). There is nothing like a cane to make you feel old! (Not to mention the icky varicose-looking vein on my foot...) The kids love to use it too -- to pretend they are old, of course.
Jill came over on Friday for a Creative Friday of sorts. Really it was more Jill helping me out with a few things, and generally being "another me", as she says. (Jill has been another me on many occasions, and it really is a most wonderful thing. I can't remember a single time when I've been another her, so perhaps I need to be more attentive? more persistent?)
Friday morning I was feeling significantly better and thought I would oh-so-gingerly attempt the stairs. Success! I was able to go downstairs and put in some laundry, as well as take some trash out. It felt great to be able to DO something, anything. So later, after Jill arrived, I thought I would go down to the garage and look for things to sell at Collette's yard sale.
I was still being careful, but somehow I slipped and had a small fall on the way down. Ouch. I was pretty sure it was due to the fact that I was wearing socks, so later on I tried it again, sans socks. Again, I fell, but just a tiny bit. Again, ouch. Apparently I just am having great difficulty taking it easy as much as I need to. (But come on, it's been a week now! And I only have 7 MORE DAYS to get ready to leave for Paris!!!)
Anyway, the pain has returned with a vengeance and has been keeping me up in the night (thus my catching up on blogs at 3:00 and 4:00 in the morning). Marc's mom came from Salt Lake yesterday and stayed all day (Marc was at work). It was so nice to not have to worry about Eva, taking Lucas and Max to birthday parties (I'm not sure if I can drive yet), etc. Plus, she brought us lunch, bought us dinner, did a little more laundry and mopped the kitchen floor (it was completely sicking me out)! See what I mean about the beauty of having another you??
It was like a party for the kids all day -- Eva played out on the trampoline for hours, and wandered around looking at flowers; Grandma even gave cake to the kids before their dinner. I took a nap, a shower, and I got a blessing (Grandpa was here for awhile too). Then I sat at the kitchen table sorting through the mess that was my filing system. At least I did something to check off my list!
Tomorrow morning I will test out my driving ability to go see the doctor. In theory, I will be going to physical therapy for the next week! Again, I'm not sure how everything is going to get done in the next seven days -- well, actually, I'm sure it's not. I'm trying to come to grips with not being able to do everything I wanted/thought I needed to do. I had no idea I was going to lose a whole week...
On a positive note, I do have some good mail to report:
such a cute thank you note from Amie -- the polka dotted envelope adds so much! Those folks at Target really know what they're doing, eh?
Natasha made this darling card. I swear, I'll never be able to keep up with the good mail dynamo that is Natasha! I love that she said I need to get well soon because you are all expecting postcards from Paris!
Crystalyn sent this cutest thank you card. I got one of these from my cousin Ashley once and could not get over the perfect style, color combo, etc. (On a side note, it's interesting that Crystalyn and Jenn have become good friends, and their handwriting reminds me of each other's!)
A very cute get well card from Kelly -- I'm always impressed by everyone else's card designs!
Kristi sent me an extra hand for the week. That girl has a never-ending supply of clever ideas. My kids thought it was hilarious. And what is that ultra-cute sticker on the envelope??
Lisa sent a get well card as well. Check out the cool photo! At first I thought you took it, Lisa, as I couldn't read the signature. Pretty impressive.
Yet another of Kristi's great ideas. Love the color scheme, love the scalloped edge, love the fat-free bunny!
Natasha even made these darling Easter cards! Get a load of her oh-so-cute kids in their matching outfits.
Kelly made Easter cards, too! I have never made Easter cards before. The color scheme is so pleasing, I of course adore the polka dots, and the velvet ric rac just puts it over the top.
Jenn sent this gift express delivery (via Jill). Are these the cutest mugs/saucers ever? Quite possibly. And treats to boot. I don't know how she does it.
Anna sent this very cool blank travel scrapbook, antique-looking brads, and cute card. Now I have two scrapbooks to fill in Paris! I'm so excited. And it never fails to amaze me when I get good mail from someone I don't even know.
Thanks everyone! It's so nice to know you are thinking of me, especially this week.

I'm glad to hear that you are starting to get back on your feet, but sorry to hear about your falls! I wish I could be there to "be another you" to do laundry, ironing, etc. Thank heaven for Jill!
I've never known anyone to get SUCH cute or SO much mail! You must have to save a few hours aday just anticipating reading your mail and goodies!!! I'm sorry too that I can't be there to be another you (Ilike that idea....I need another me or two at work!!I'm going to hire another me!!) I'll keep you in my prayers for the week to come and then some! Have you had the blessing yet?.......Love you.Mom
Okay, I'm NOT anonymous.....I got the weirdest screne up when I checked your blog, I even showed Dad and he never saw such a screen either, then when I went to post, it didn't give me a place to identify myself and the place for me to post was about the size of a large stamp......I'll never understand technology...sleep good dear one.
7 days? Really? That seems crazy, I can't believe it is already that time. When will I stop being surprised that time actually does pass.
I am glad you that some well wishes were sent your way, I totally missed the boat (didn't miss the thoughts just the actions!).
I hope your doctor's appointment goes well and that you are able to get tons done this week.
Wow 7 days? That hardly seems possible!
I hate recovery time from anything and I always want to hurt the doctors when they tell you it should be over by now. Blech! I hope one day this week, it all just seems easier and you can get the big stuff done.
Love all the cards and goodies. You were definitely thought of and that always feels good!
Though the cane may be humbling I think it's a good plan and has got to be more helpful than just hobbling around. Your fall on the stairs scared the crap out of me, you really shouldn't be going up and down them (even if you're going slowly).
I'm so grateful that Mim came to the rescue and made Saturday a good day for you. Your bill organizer looks great (even the folder are from her) and it had to feel good to accomplish something.
That's so kind of Jill and your mother-in-law to come and help you out. Be careful with the stairs! And good luck with the physical therapy this week. You're in my prayers!
oh michelle, glad you have an extra hand and a few extra helpers at this time. dang, falling was not on the "get well plan" was it?? take care of yourself...
yay for good friends and a helpful MIL
Hope this week is amazing for you! That you find the energy and the health to do all that you need to do! Two falls on the stairs? Well, you have that behind you now. (SCARY!)Three cheers for Jill and your MIL! How fantastic to have "another you" for awhile! Hope your dr. appt goes well!
Good to see your getting around even if it's with a bit of help. It's crazy Paris is only a week away, but I know you can be walking by then. Just keep telling yourself you can do it. I am grateful you have had some help and am sorry for your fall.
love all the thoughtfulness.
Sorry about your falls! Good mail galore must make you very happy and must be a hight light of your day to go get the mail.
I really hope you don't stress too much about getting everything done before Paris.
O.k. Michelle, this is just breaking my heart fo ryou! I'm so sorry that you are in such pain and that you've had a couple of falls. Beware of stairs! People have been known to break their foot falling down them! :)That you don't need! I am glad to hear you are getting a lot of help though. I have the feeling that you will always be o.k. with a friend like Jill. And check out all that great mail! You are loved!
7 days to go .... WOW! Best of luck as you tackle all that you can, and let go of what you can't.
I'm thinking of you! I wish I had another me sometimes. My other me would help clean, but... I guess that wouldn't be a me at all. I guess I need someone else entirely. haha
7 days - hurray! You can do it! I am delighted to hear that you are recovering, smothered by help and good mail, and taking your cautious pre-steps to Paris. I am thinking of you, and wishing you a healthy and productive/restful week!
It sounds like your life is really crazy - so much to do - so little time! It's so great to have good friends and family close to help - it must feel really great. Hope all is well for you this week especially with such great good mail wishes. Take care!
just when i tell myself i am no longer posting good mail, i go and read someone elses and it just inspires me.
7 days... what?
I hope your week is going well. My heart gave a little squeeze reading about your falls. ack!
I'm glad you've had help and good mail, but that knee needs to get better!
