...on Sesame Street!
Max & Lucas were never really into Sesame Street, but Eva has definitely caught the vision. I'm thrilled because I am a dyed-in-the-wool Sesame Street fan. We have watched a lot of it this last week and it's fun to see how appealing it still is, even to adults.
I don't know of any other children's programming where you can see a Jewish fairy godperson with wings and a cellular wand, complete with that great accent, saying Yiddish words like "gefilte fish" (in muppet form, no less!). For some reason, it is endlessly entertaining to me to hear the puppets saying words like: albeit, ordinarily, and ergo.
Cookie Monster was always a favorite of mine. I remembered the part where he said things like, "Me come back". I didn't remember him saying things like, "me not going to eat letter of the day. Me promised research department". So I'm wondering, has it evolved or is my adult self noticing things my child self glossed right over?
When Lucas caught the flu bug, our daytime programming included a lot more SpongeBob. Still entertaining, but it's no Sesame Street.

Yea! Seseame Street!! Now there's a children's program I can actually relate to (as if to really know what it is.....) I'm so glad Eva likes it! And, as you know, THE Seseame Street theme park is right here in fabulous historic Langhorne!! We'll have to make a time to go before Eva gets too old! I'm pleased to think that she is feeling better. Perhaps some charachter on S.S. will have some influence on the necessity of eating!! There should be some clever skit or song about that!
I love Sesame street too! Way better than anything else these days! :)
So glad to hear that everyone is finally recovering! Hope you stay healthy!!
Sesame Street is my favorite! The other day I noticed the exchange between Grover and John John was on -- he was on when we were little. Still so cute! I love that they include those old segments still. And I am amazed how appealing that show is to adults, too. I think they were genius to have those little tidbits of grown up humor included. That is definitely lacking in most kid shows today!
I think a lot of that cleverness goes over the kids' heads, so it's a treat for the parents that get suckered into watching it with their kids or who have to listen to it all day. It's a great show.
coming from a picky mom of what there kids watch, I love sesame street!
i can't believe what they pass off as kids shows these days.
i loved your description's , great writing my friend.
Growing up, we watched Sesame Street during breakfast from birth through high school and loved it! With all the great TV programs on Disney, Noggin, Nickelodeon there is still nothing that compares to Sesame Street. I remember when Mr. Hooper died. I also thought Maria was more beautiful than Barbie...I still do.
Ethan is my only one to watch Sesame Street and we don't do it regularly. I think they can do a lot more now that parents were once devoted watchers as kids- I was crying with laughter (more than usual!) when I saw the commercial with Cookie Monster as Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible when he falls from the ceiling in CIA headquarters... if you haven't seen it yet, you are missing out! SO funny!
We just recently started watching sesame street, too--just so my two year old could see Elmo. I honestly haven't watched it before. Sad, but true. We just usually don't have the TV on. I almost can't wait until he will sit and actually WATCH it for a few minutes because that means he is not hanging on me!!))
Does anyone remember when Mr. Hooper died? That rocked my world. I totally learned how to read from the letter of the day. I should let my kids watch that more!!!
The other day elmo went to the Doctor...his name was Doc Martin...always get a kick out of SS.
My favorite too as a kid along with Electric Company, Reading Rainbow and good old Mr. Rogers. I even had Sesame Street sheets! Snuffleupocus is still my favorite.
I have tried and tried to get Luke to watch Seasame Street. He refuses everytime and it makes me so sad. My oldest loved it and we would sit and watch it together. Yes, it's definitely no Dora or Backyard Agains either.
I love Sesame Street. There was something just today that they were doing a parody of and I thought "That would be totally inapropriate in its adult form!" So, I wonder if they just throw in things for parents too, or what.
I love SS too! They had all new episodes (sad that I know that) last year. There was some funny stuff on there, I always think Dr. Feel is good. My kids loved Elmo's world. I even got a couple videos of it at Goodwill and they would watch it over and over. They are 3,5,6 and will still watch if I turn it on.
I have to say I am completely out of the Sesame Street loop. I have heard that it is nothing like it used to be though. I'm so glad you are on the road to recovery!!!
I like Alexis to watch Between The Lions, good for reading, but great entertainment for adults. Gawain's Word ala Wayne's World, Cliff Hanger, Chicken Jane, appearances by Jon Stewart, they are all so amusing to me.
I lived to watch Sesame street. Sadly non of my kids have ever been into it. I am amazed that it is still on!
I am so glad that you are all getting better. Hopefully you can enjoy the great weather we are having!
Had to laugh at your post. Love SS too! My little Oliver is a big fan of Cookie Monster.
To this day, when I hear the old SS songs it makes me feel all good inside.
It doesn't get watched at our house anymore, but I remember the days. It was fun to watch with Bella and remember my childhood. I loved it as a kid and not much has changed except snuffy does exist.
Oh- I remember what it was now- It was "Six Feet Under" and showed 6 feet under a table top, they were all sitting around the table eating. I had the 6 Feet Under theme music and everything. I thought it was so funny!
Oh I love Sesame Street, although Lulu isn't quite a fan. She would prefer Little Bear or the Backyardigans. I remember him talking about not eating the letter, but no research comments.
Ah, Sesame Street! What a fabulously created show. I can't even decide who my favorite character is. Cookie is one of my faves, but Bert and Ernie kill me too! Bert is so anal and Ernie always knows just how to make him ease up a bit and relax. Of course, Elmo is Henri's favorite. He will start bopping the minute the music from "Elmo's World" starts. It is such a good break for moms and babes!
We love sesame street at our house too. It is one of the only shows that Jessica will sit still and watch all the way to the end. And like every one else has said, it is such a clever, funny show.
i love sesame street. when we used to live in Washington DC we went as kids...it was the neatest experience. here we watch it, not a lot but i think it is very good for the children...although with soooooooo many shows now that are educational no wonder it gets glossed over sometimes....
My kids don't watch Sesame Street, which makes me so sad because I am such a big fan. It's all about Dora around here. Somehow, though, they know the names of most of the characters. Why is that?
Ok, don't get me wrong here, I am a big Sesame Street fan (how can a girl be of our generation and not be? I still feel sad when I think about Mr. Hooper's death!). Does anybody remember listening to the record, I can't remember it's name, but Bert is in the bath tub and enveryone eventually ends up in the bath room with him having a party? But, I can't stand the addition of Elmo's World to the show. Elmo's shrill voice just gets to me. And that's the only part of Sesame Street that Kaitlin really likes, unless they have something ballet related and then she sits stock still watching. So, I put up with it, but would greatly enjoy it if Elmo's world wasn't so long!
