unbelievable

I find it amazing that the morning after my last post (where I said I thought Eva might be getting better), she woke up and started vomiting. Even though we have been largely housebound for the last 2 weeks, she somehow managed to get the stomach flu. I just can't figure out where that came from.

I spent all of Wednesday and Thursday curled up in a cozy chair, holding Eva, watching children's television, changing endless diapers, and occasionally dozing off due to tiredness brought on by many night wakings. Yesterday was a little better, as she started talking again, as opposed to writhing around crying, "ow! ow!" and such. She even walked around a little and showed some interest in toys.

Imagine my dismay when she began throwing up again today... followed by Lucas. Max gets so upset when Lucas is throwing up, he has to cover his ears, and if he can, he leaves the room. Not the best situation, since they share a room! Lucas is the best patient, though. He laid on the couch with a bowl and a wet washcloth all day, never complaining, never asking for anything. I kept him stocked on his favorite movies and TV shows and drinks, and he did great.

Of course, Max, Marc and I are washing our hands so frequently that my hands are getting all chapped (I need to remember to use the lotion that I got for the kitchen sink). I have done 4 loads of laundry today and am disinfecting everything in sight. I am so hoping that this flu doesn't spread any further... and unfortunately it's looking like tomorrow will be the third week in a row I have had to miss church. blah.

I just can't even believe how much illness you have to deal with in your household. You should have an honorary nursing degree at this point with a minor in laundry! I wish I knew what to do to help you guys. I keep praying for you and sending good thoughts your way. Hang tough my friend!

Those tiny toddlers bring disease in waves this time of year. I'm so sorry. I thought we were over our last round and last night Lucy woke up with a fever and has the croup...aargh...I feel your pain.

I'm glad I came by and read this b/c I've been going through the same thing with Jack. I held him all day yesterday & the day before while he cried, having the stomach flu. We get it a lot in our house too. I'm off to bed hoping that none of us come down with it tonight....good luck!! I'm with you on the hand washing and constantly trying to avoid the spread....it's hard work. I have NO clue where Jack picked it up either. I only took him out where he touched anything once - to the park - that must have been it. It's so darn contagious.

I like Jill's degree idea! You really deserve a medal for all you have been through lately. To me there is nothing worse than thinking they are 'over' it and then they pull a sneaker and start it all up again. Dane did that to me about a month ago. I was literally in tears!

Sending MANY healthy thoughts your way!

I hope that a healthy household is in your near future. We have been sick over here and I am crossing my fingers that we are through for awhile.

I can't imagine the place you are in- I am so sorry Michelle! When I read about your kiddos being sick I feel for you and count my blessings that I have not had to deal with anything like that yet. Sending healthy thoughts your way- hang in there!

Tis the season of sickness, right? Same thing at our house. All three kids passing around different viruses to each other. Thankfully, I haven't gotten any of them ,,,YET. I hope you guys get to feeling better SOON, I'll be praying for you guys! :)

I had to come back and say how sorry I am. I am so sorry Eva started up again! You're in my prayers. Such a hard week.

unbelievable is right! Can you tent your house for germs (kind of like termites)? There must be something in the walls, you need a fresh start for sure!

Are you at least saving lots of money (that's my main incentive for prolonged periods at home). With no will power my only defense is to stay home!

I hope that your kids get feeling better soon, be good for you, AND that you don't get it!!!

Oh you poor girl! Having sick kids is the worst, but to be sick for so long is even worse. I know how it feels. I hope and pray that they get healthy soon, and especially that no one else gets it!

I feel for you. The stomach flu hit our family twice as well. The second time it was only me, but that sucker lasted for a week. The good news in lasting for a week, I mean just feeling drained and tired after the first two days. Okay, maybe I am not helping.

I really hope no one else gets it.
Spring is coming, and I hope you can enjoy it.

Sick kids are the worst! :) It's one thing to be moping around and up in the night because you can't sleep, but to be sleep deprived and still cleaning up after sick kids is no picnic. Hopefully you're getting all the sickness for the year out in a few week's time?

I'm so sorry that you're still dealing with sickness and puking is the worst. Hopefully it will stop with Eva and that she will start to get better soon. :)

I have heard there is a nasty flu bug going around the state. I am so sorry. I am terrified we are going to get it too. I am in a bad position because I can't stand to stay home, yet am terrified of every shopping cart, library book, or hand rail.

This may not be helpful at all, especially for the flu, but I have a childlike faith in humidifiers.

I feel for you, we have had a similar thing in our house for the last 3 weeks. Just can't get past it. ARGH!!! I hate this time of year for this reason, I am so looking forward to the spring and some fresh clean air. Keep your spirits up.

Oh my goodness! I am sooo sorry Michelle. You don't deserve this.

Hang in there!

We are in the same boat at our house. I thought how can pink eye, a terrible cold, and the stomach bug hit our family all in the same weekend?? So from one germ-infested home to another -- I hope this is a better week for you!

Oh, I am soo sorry! We went through that and it is so miserable! It is so hard when you have little kids and you can never leave the house! I go batty. When my girls got it we thought they were better a day or two later and we would go somewhere and both ended up throwing up at a resturant all over the table and the movie theater!

I hope she gets over it soon and no else gets it. So sorry for you hibernation. Not fun.

Sad, sad, sad, very sad, way sad, SAD. Bad,bad, bad, so bad, very bad, BAD! I can, however, believe it! How this happens, I do not know. Does Marc give blessings when school starts? Perhaps he can include a portion for health purposes.....I have kept you all in my prayers daily. You willneed every strength to get through this. Continued prayers will be yours. Sorry I can't come and take a turn while you nap.

Oh Michelle I can't believe everyone is sick all over again!! I declare you Super Mom of Sickness and if I had one I'd give you a cool cape with maribou trim. Maybe you could borrow the wand that Timm gave me and you can magic your family well. You're in my thoughts and prayers--I'm cheering for you! (Do you need someone to come over and pull a shift? I'm completely willing to come over and help you out--you deserve a nap! Give me a call if you need to.)

Oh, Michelle, next time I complain about illnesses just remind me about the terrible winter of 2007 that you've had. I'll promptly shut my mouth. I'm sure Jill's taking good care of you, but is there anything I can do?

Diana said...

Michelle that is so awful. I am so sorry. Life is so hard with sick kids. Lucas being a good patient must help a lot though. I hope things start to get better soon

Okay, I'm posting whether you read this or not because I CAN'T believe it (contrary to Susan)!!!! How could your kids keep getting sick?!@#$$?! Really, maybe it is in your walls or something. In fact, (I can't believe I'm going to say this. It is SOOO my mom!)have you ever thought of taking Eva to see a Naturopathic doctor to have a food allergy test done? Sometimes, food allergies can manifest themselves as a weak immune system. Maybe you should have your kids on daily doses of echinacea or something! I'm so sorry Shell! I'm sending my "get well" vibes... (and take Charlotte up on the help - you deserve it!).

Oh dear. You've had a rough go, and you definitely deserve a Minor in Laundry. Hang in there! My prayers are with you.

WOW! That is so hard to stay sane when you are stuck at home for so long! I hope that you guys recover soon and that you are well the rest of the year!

You truly have a house of ill. I hope your kids will be on the mend soon and that you and Marc don't end up getting sick. Poor babies and poor mommy. Here's to more sleep, less vomit, less runny noses and the happy sounds of children playing and feeling spunky again.
