New Year's Eve 2006

I was just too tired last night to post! Too many years, it seems like New Year's Eve passes without much fanfare, and I wanted to do something celebratory. We invited Jessie and Timm over to have fondue and play games. (Thanks to Jenn for letting us borrow 2 fondue pots and giving me her recipes!)

I didn't go as all out as Jenn does, but I made cheese, chocolate and caramel fondues, and we had bread, broccoli, apples, bananas, clementines, pineapple, marshmallows, pretzels, and sponge cake to dip. My kids had never had fondue before, and neither had Timm! Timm and Max liked it, Lucas tried it and decided to pass. (how's that for a picky eater?! I don't know how anyone can pass up dipping things in caramel and chocolate...)

We got kind of a late start due to getting the babies in bed, so we didn't start playing games until almost 9:00. We played Imaginiff and Apples to Apples, then around 11:30 the adults were getting too tired to start another game. Max and Lucas were all set to start a game of Risk!
It was fun to be able to play games and include the boys, they are getting old enough to really be able to participate. They were determined to stay up until midnight, even though we told them it's pretty anti-climactic, and by the time we were finished playing it was close enough that we let them. We had a toast with Martinelli's (the kids' favorite) and Meier's (the grown-ups' favorite).

This is the only photo Jessie would allow!

I wish we could do this every week! (especially if someone else would make the fondue...)

ok are those black and white toile dishes i see in the back ground. michelle, i am inviting myself to your house!
sounds like you had a good new years eve.

yesterday at church i was talking to our bishop's son (Knell) and he just got home from his mission in France. he is at the Y and I asked him if he had any french classes. He has Shantalle (sp?) It seemed you had her too and when he said she has been teaching there for along time I figure it could be your same teacher. I asked him if he has heard of Marc. His friend is going to France Study Abroad and so excited.. not that this is exciting news, but it was fun acting like i knew someone.

happy New year!

Dipping things in cheese and chocolate? I need a fondue pot. I also enjoy Apples to Apples, but last night I forced "E! Pop-a-razzi" THE GAME on my friends.

We had fondue too. Just us and the kids. I pretty much limit fondue to once a year. It's frightening how much cheese we can consume.

I'm glad you had a fun night.

I was wondering if you did fondue last night or if you were doing it tonight. It sure looks good! I think it is SO fun to do with people who have never done it before!

We played Apples to Apples too! We "celebrated" the new year at 9:00 with Martinelli's and loud banging on the front porch, then played one game and sent kids to bed. Kelly and I finished off the night with three episodes of Prison Break- I am SO addicted that it is seriously getting in the way of important things- finishing the last christmas presents, preparing for my teacher training, and now, book club! I have to squeeze my reading in during the day so when kids are in bed we can watch!

We played Apples to Apples too. It was fun and we decided that the green cards you won represented your personality. Needless to say I was Easy, Cuddly, and a few other choice words. I totally rocked at the beginning, but lost in the end. Drat.

Your food looks good. We planned badly, but still had pretty good food, although we wanted a fondue party.

Oohh... I can't believe you think you weren't going all out with that spread. Makes my mouth water, so yummy. I have never tried Meier's - will have to give that a go.
Happy New Year, Michelle! I look forward to getting to know you!

A fondue party sounds awesome. We had cheese fondue last week with my sister and wished we had done chocolate. Man I am craving that right now.

I think it's great the boys are old enough to play with you. It's nice now when we go to Jill's to play the kids are old enough to play together without bothering us.

We did fondue for the first time tonight. I was afraid that we wouldn't get full on fondue, so I made TOO MUCH other food. It turned out well and we were all so full we were sick!

Happy New Year!

I'm proud of you for doing something celebratory. I always feel so let down by New Year's Eve. Maybe next year. (That, by the way, seems to be the theme of my comments about the holidays--maybe next year. I need to stop living in the future!) I'm glad you had a good night and a good time with your kids. So fun!

We do the fondue thing as well. I love it!
I have enjoyed following the video hunt saga. I am so glad you finally found one! When I was about 7 there was a Cabbage Patch doll hunt going on in 4 states for my Christmas joy. I of course had no idea since all I had to do was ask Santa and he would bring it. I just found that out a few years ago, and it makes me feel so loved!

Looks like we all had a similar evening - we did games and chocolate fondue (choc fountain) with family at our place.

Happy New Year!

I'm so proud of you for making a party happen! Fondue is always a good idea, and I love both those games. I'm glad you had a great night.

Sounds so good Michelle. I love both of those games. Austin stayed awake this year and it was fun to wish him Happy New year and for him to see fireworks. Please post some of your fondue recipes!

OH, I was so jealous when Jessie was talking on the phone with you and you told her about the fondue.
It sounds like you all had a great time. Timm and Jessie talked a lot of about it when we played Imagineiff with them last night.
So cute that your boys wanted to stay up. I hope they were too tired the next day.
