over the river and through the woods

To grandmother & grandfather's house we went! We went to Marc's parents' place in Salt Lake for Thanksgiving. They wouldn't let us bring any of the food, and they wouldn't even let us help clean up the dishes! Talk about being spoiled...

I realized recently that I don't seem to have any photos of Max and Lucas with their grandparents. I tried to rectify that today, but I didn't end up with anything very good yet. It's a start.

Eva doing a little detective work.

Per our tradition, the boys and I made our chocolate turkeys (an invention of my mom & Denise from when I was little): chocolate stars, malted milk balls, chocolate frosting -- from a can! -- and red gel frosting for the wattles. I think this was the thing Lucas was most excited about...

Here's my list of the things I'm most grateful for this year so far:
  • Marc being awarded tenure.
  • No kidney stones!
  • Marc finished his web course!
  • I started blogging and made some great new friends.
  • I got to go to Denver and visit my family.
  • Max has a fabulous teacher and has developed some great new study habits.
  • Watching Eva learn to walk and start to talk.
  • We had a dream vacation in Charleston. (well, really Isle of Palms)
  • I got a cool new bike and bike trailer, thanks to my dad!
  • Timm's handyman day.
  • Working on getting my scrap room organized, again. (thanks to table from Timm, see above)
  • My great book club friends.
  • Watching Lucas love to draw.
  • Dreaming of all the fun girly things I will be able to do with Eva.
  • My friendship with Jill.
It's been a good year!

I'm glad you had a good day. It's so nice that Bob and Mim take care of everything so that you don't have to make anything or even do dishes (I washed a ton of dishes, and actually wondered if it Thanksgiving was worth the mess? I think it is, but still.)

The pictures are all very cute, and I like the tradition of making chocolate turkeys. I wish I'd known about that sooner. Maybe we'll adopt that for next year, since we don't really have any set traditions for Thanksgiving.

The turkeys are cute, great tradition.

Great list and I too love watching a toddler with all they have to learn. Not so easy to watch when it is your own some days. So glad you can appreciate and love it now too.

That sounds like a really fun day! I love the chocolate turkeys--we made those as well on Thursday. The past couple of years we've used Snickers or Milky Way Popables (like the Bites, but made by a different company), because no one really likes the malt balls, but alas Popables of any kind were no where to be found! Where did they all go?! We ended up using a combination of malt balls for some and Reese's Bites for most of them. It was quite a fun adventure!

This Thanksgiving definitely topped last year's for me because last year I was working on a huge psychology project all break. Yes it was a scrapbook so that was fun, but I could only work on it in the basement and so I was isolated the whole time.

I'm glad you had a good Thanksgiving! (I love the pictures--especially the one of Nancy Drew Eva!)

I love the chocolate turkeys! How fun. Kaitlin would go crazy if I made some of those with her. I'm going to have to bookmark this post for next year!

What a fabulous Thanksgiving. No cooking or cleaning up. Marc's mom is so nice!

I love your list of things you're grateful for. It so long, and I know it could be even longer. You've had a fun year! So much has happened. Hopefully next year will be just as good!
