I had something positive come as a result of my Cub Scout calling! Last night while driving home from pack meeting, which was held at a park a little way up Provo Canyon, I had the sudden brainstorm that I should go walking on the canyon trail. (Please do not ask why I have never walked on the canyon trail during the eight years we have lived here because I have no answer for that.) So today after the boys went off to school, I drove about 3 minutes to the base of the trail, put Eva in the stroller, and went for the most delightful walk I've been on since we left Seattle.
The weather was gorgeous -- sunny, but not too hot, with a light breeze. (If the temperature never got above 75 degrees I would be so very very happy. Damn global warming!) Anyway, we saw quite a few people biking, roller-blading, walking, and even skateboarding along the trail, but not so many as to make it feel crowded. The only sounds to be heard were: light traffic from the cars driving up the canyon, the rushing river, and birdsong. It was so peaceful and I just felt invigorated. We ended up walking for an hour, which was longer than I had planned, because it was just fun!
A little bonus was that we walked up to where the Timpanogos Storytelling Festival was taking place. We could hear snippets of some of the storytellers, and the laughter of crowds of children. We saw rows and rows of school buses. I was happy for all of the children that got to be in that beautiful setting on a beautiful day, listening to those talented entertainers. What a cool field trip!
I think Eva thoroughly enjoyed our walk, and she even had a little nap!
It wasn't all wonderful today (piano lessons, Marc's work party, Eva being fussy, trying to upload photos to smugmug with dialup, etc.) but the good definitely outweighed the bad. Here's what I loved about today:
- the nice cool weather
- I felt well-rested
- I got some very enjoyable exercise
- I talked to my mom
- I made good food choices
- I took lots of photos
- I felt good about myself

oh it was nice to see the pictures...wow it is always so wonderful to be in nature and so good for your mental and physical health. Glad to hear you had such a spontaneous time, sometimes they are the best. Eva looks so grown up! she looks so cute asleep!
Wow, I don't even know who you are anymore! Walking for an hour in the canyon? Wow. What a great idea, especially since you're like 3 minutes from the canyon. That's fantastic.
The pictures are beautiful, what a happy bonus to your walk. I love your list of things you loved about the day (like a gratitude journal) and am so happy that you felt well rested AND felt good about yourself. Victory!
Sounds like a fantastic day- at least the canyon part and the good food choices part. It seems like you are past the baby step phase and are now making leaps into your new healthy lifestyle. Good for you!
Michelle!
MY link wasn't working to your site, and last time it was Jill had posted that you were having technical difficulties, so I thought it was your site, but here you were all along. I missed you!
Its so hard to pick out the goodish things about a day with not so good things. I admire that about you. I have made horrible food choices this week and it is so clear that its about my mood. I just feed my sadness!
I hope you have a great weekend though and that baby-boss-of-you gets feeling all better!
I am SO jealous of your good walking trail! My neighborhood isn't so intoxicating. But, I love walking! So, we're going to the school three times a day. I ran into a friend at the school today so we took the long way home and chatted while we walked. I wish I could chat with you on your canyon trail!
So fun! I love the Provo River trail. It is gorgeous. It's also a great place to go walking at night (ok that probably sounds scary--don't go alone or anything, I'm thinking romantic walks with your husband or something!) when it's too hot to exercise during the day.
Your list is great. I'm especially glad to see that you felt well rested. It must be such a nice chnage of pace for you! I hope that continues.
Sounds like a great day. We love walking on the trail, I am glad you "discovered it"
I love your pictures too.
So glad to hear of your good day. I wish I had such a nice place to ride my bike! (Maybe someday...) Also glad that Eva seems to be feeling better. NICE photos!
I loved biking on this trail when I wa at BYU, it is so pretty up there. If you want a real workout ride your bike on the trail all the way to Bridal Veil Falls! Killer. Or you could bike the trail to Utah Lake. I miss doing stuff like that. Glad you had a great walk!
That is one thing I miss about Utah. The wonderful weather, mountains, and beautiful scenary.
Glad to see you had a pleasant day!
You live in one of the best places in the world in my book. I'm glad you get to enjoy it!
What a great day! I'm so ready for retirement...back to the basement after a long day, but happy day specifying $200 yd fabrics! Where do they get those budgets? Loved the photos too.
It looks so lovely! I've forgotten how beautiful the canyon can be. Eva looks so darling.
The pictures are beautiful. I love the canyon an don't know why we don't go more. I especially loved walking in provo because of the paved trail. I miss that.
eva sure is cute.
