tidbits from my day

  • Shortly after she woke up (6:00 a.m. these days), I saw Eva pulling something out of her mouth. It was an earwig! Sick! It still give me the shivers just thinking about it.
  • Max was practicing piano and came up to complain about a spider on the wall. I tried to convince him to ignore it, but he was too freaked out. When I went down to kill it, I discovered it was a black widow.
  • I helped Max put together his new tent on the trampoline so he and Lucas could sleep out there tonight. Why do things like that come with the most cryptic instructions possible? We eventually figured it out.
  • I finally mailed some packages I put together last week.
  • While I was standing in the kitchen talking to Max and his friend Andrew, the overhead light fixture came crashing to the ground. No warning, it just fell off the ceiling and smashed to the floor, narrowly missing my head and scattering shards of glass all over the kitchen. Lucas came running in to see what the ruckus was. Fortunately, Eva was taking a nap and stayed asleep. The only injury it caused was a cut on both of my ankles. Max and Andrew were quite shook up.
  • Eva woke from her afternoon nap screaming. I couldn't figure out what was wrong with her, since she has been doing much better since yesterday. She was crying so loudly that her mouth was wide open and I discovered that she is getting molars! Why would I expect more than one day of normal behavior? Let's not get crazy.
  • A storm moved in right around the time Max & Lucas were going to go sleep in the tent, so instead they set up their sleeping bags on their bedroom floor. It's their first time using sleeping bags (sad but true) and they were so excited you'd think it was Christmas Eve. I hope the tent doesn't blow away.
  • Everyone's asleep, I have a moment to myself, and I'm planning an activity for cub scouts tomorrow. woohoo.

Michelle! Is it a full moon or some crazy thing? My sister-in-law's light fixture did that, but her husband installed it, who did yours? I'd be calling someone:)

What a day! Teeth and a UTI? You'll both need a nap tomorrow!

Put those band-aided feet up friend, you have earned it!

These are some disturbing tidbits indeed, and yes Tasha it IS a full moon! An earwig in Eva's mouth...sickening. A black widow downstairs by the piano...frightening. The light fixture crashing down out of nowhere...eerie. Molars and a UTI...unfair and exhausting. I sincerely hope today is a better day. Did you take any pictures of the tent and sleeping bag boys?

Sadly, no. I didn't take any photos. Maybe I can remedy that today...

Okay- I'm still grossed out by the whole earwig thing. Nasty. How did it get in there? Did she eat it? It is strange, but we don't have earwigs in TX like y'all do in UT.

You had quite an eventful day. I'm glad no one as injured in the light fixture debacle. I would be totally freaked out too.

So very freaky! The earwig has to be the creepiest thing though- makes me want to gag a little. Mya loves her sleeping bag, what kid wouldn't! I hope they are able to sleep outside tonight and you can take some pictures.

You poor thing. I can't believe you're light fixture came crashing down. The earwig thing I do believe. I heard a story that while we are sleeping we eat 7 bugs/spiders per year. Very gross, and I hope not true, but could see how it could be a possiblity. Lucky she woke and pulled it out, yuck. And a black widow? I would be calling the exterminater as I am deathly afraid of spiders. Hope today is a better day for you. Good luck with the cub scouts.

Wow...that sounds like one hell of a day, to be frank. The earwig thing is just....ew. And black widows? And psychotic light fixtures?? I am with Jill, I hope today is a better day for you!

You need a watching of your favorite chick flick that makes you cry, and let it all out. That is way too much in one day, and the gross out factor, yuck, my mouth was feeling yucky after reading that.
What a great mom you are though.

What the... I don't think I have ever seen a black widow, though I'm pretty sure my kids have eaten things that I just don't want to know about. I feel unsettled about your light, not because it fell but because I am horrified after Emily's eye incident about how you ever clean up ALL the glass...
I am praying your day is LESS exciting today!

Reading about the earwig completely grosses me out--I am truly revolted. I shudder. Apart from the vile earwig incident, the black widow episode sounds horrifying. In our old house we found a black widow in the garage and Dad caught it, allowing me to take it into my 7th grade science class in a jar. For a day or two it looked dead, all gray and crumpled up inside the jar and then the next day it was jet black again and bouncing all around the jar. It was frightening. Ew. I sure hope your week improves. Good grief.

The earwig incident sounds rather Stephen-King-esque. EW! I can't get the image out of my mind--I absolute abhor earwigs!!

The light fixture thing happened to me once, too (only in my basement above my washing machine). It's pretty startling, to say the least. I also felt grateful that no one was severely hurt, because they sure could have been!

That is just too weird of a day.

at our old house we had an old fan and while mom and maren were home it came crashing down much like you said while the blades were spinning. fortunately no one was hurt. i've never seen an earwig and i hope not to.

Yep - the earwig tidbit is terribly disturbing! I see a spider and I call Spider Spray - they are very thorough. After our mouse incident, we had Terminx come out and place traps. No mice but it trapped an earwig - gross!!

the ceiling fixture incident reminds me of one of my more mischevious moments (me? mischevious?!?! i know, I know, who would have thought?). Shortly after we had just moved from Midland, my parents went out for their weekly date and left us in the care of a babysitter. Ian had decided that he wanted to climb on top of our couch and hang from the ceiling fan, which was conviently placed for such an activity. Well, he keeps doing it and looked like so much fun that I decided to try it too. Unfornetly the ceiling fan decided that it had had enough of the abuse and released it's grip on the ceiling with me still hanging on.
It actually became quite funny later because no one got hurt and our unfornet baby-sitter was baby-sitting for her first time and had been on the phone with her mom to get some advice when it happened.
ah....the good 'ole days.

I enjoy tidbits from your life. Didn't your kitchen window fall out not too long ago? Creepy.
