After a long day of travel, we're finally here! The babies did as well as we could have hoped. So why was it still so exhausting? For one thing, we didn't have Jill with us this time to help us navigate the security walk-through, gate-checking the stroller, etc. It all made me wonder if the airlines purposely make it difficult to travel with children. It was definitely much easier last time. We tried drugging them -- we're not sure if it had any effect. (I had gone to the pharmacy to ask if there was anything I could give Eva since Benadryl hypes her up rather than making her sleepy. They said Benadryl is the best but I could try Dimetapp. When they heard that I had a scrip for Chloral Hydrate, they couldn't imagine I was looking for something else. When they heard that had no effect on Eva, they were speechless. Apparently it's used in dental offices to sedate patients. Ahh, my little drug-resistant girl!)
She did sleep quite a bit on the flights, however. So I guess I should be counting my blessings. I just can't wait until she is old enough to have her own seat. Even though it will be more expensive, it is just so much easier to not have to hold them on your lap.
Talk about a time warp! It is so strange to get up at 5:00, leave at 6:30 for the airport, and not arrive at your destination until after 7:00 p.m. (5:00 Utah time) At any rate, it's good to be here now that the traveling is done. I thought I should show you a picture of the room I am staying in. (It's the guest room in the basement.)Staying at my mom's house is like being at a luxury hotel. The linens, feather mattress, pillows, everything is SO comfortable! I feel like I could just stay in that bed forever. We put Eva's portable crib in the closet, so I just close the closet doors and she is good to go. She still woke up 3 times, but I wasn't looking for any miracles... On the plus side, I put her down for a nap this morning and she went down without a peep -- still sleeping after almost 2 hours!
Eva and Bella are enjoying having each other to play with, e.g. climb all over each other, grab each other's toys and binkies, be co-conspirators in exploring Grandma & Grandpa's house, etc. Miles is here for the weekend and he is entertaining the babies by crawling around with them and imitating their baby talk. They think he is hilarious. Here's a photo of Grandpa Freddie playing with Eva this morning -- I love that my parents can get to know her a little better.
Well, we're off to go do some errands. Update to come...

I'm so glad you're able to blog from there. I've been thinking about you guys travelling and hoping all is well. I didn't get up until 8:45 yesterday and my first thought was that your plan had already taken off! Crazy. I'm glad the flight went fairly well and that you arrived safely. I'm sure your delux accomodations, company, and activities will make for a wonderful week. I look forward to your updates. Have fun!
I'm glad the flights went so well. I'm so traumatized by the one time Kaitlin cried the entire flight from California to Salt Lake that I tend to dread flying every time I have to. Now that she's getting older things are better--but still. I admire your bravery!
So happy you made it safe! Enjoy your luxury accomodations and being with your mom!
Glad you made it in one piece. Enjoy the time with your ma!
