happy monday

Hooray! It's Monday again, and it's looking like the start of better things around here. First of all, Lucas is no longer seeing squares. Accompanying his high fever of Friday night was a strange visual disturbance where everything looked like it was made of squares to him. (I grilled him a bit to figure out what he was seeing, and my best interpretation is that everything appeared pixellated.) So yet again, we made a trip to the after-hours clinic on Saturday to check into this latest health anomaly in our family. Guess what? We stumped the doctor! He had never heard of a condition like this, and since it was Saturday, there was no opthalmologist available to consult. Our only options were to visit the E.R., which he said did not seem warranted since Lucas's eyes appeared normal from the limited tests that he could perform, or wait until today and hopefully the situation would resolve itself. Incidentally, Lucas's tonsils were red and inflamed, so they did a strep test, which was negative. The doc thought maybe he had a weird virus which was also causing the squares phenomenon. Strangely enough -- in our family -- this seemed entirely possible, if not likely...

While we were there, I had him check out Eva's ears to see if an ear infection could explain her inexplicable screaming fits. No answer there as her ears were fine. Then I happened to mention she is on a prescription laxative. When I told him the dosage I was giving her, he said I should increase it by about 6 times! So I did, and without going into any graphic detail, she is a much happier girl now. No screaming since Saturday morning!! I almost forgot how wonderful it is to have a happy baby.

Another good thing: the results of my weigh-in today -- another 2 pound loss! When I looked at the scale, my spirits lifted considerably. OK, so I'm not going to make my goal of 20 pounds lost by March 14, obviously, what with my two weeks of gaining and all. I'm only down a net 7 pounds. But I'm not feeling too bad about it. At least I've lost the 7, and a couple of items of clothing are actually starting to feel looser -- I wasn't expecting that yet. Next goal: 10 pounds by Eva's birthday, April 30.

To top it off, I actually woke up before Eva today, feeling rested. That never happens! So I got up and showered and dressed AND started this post, all before I had to get her up! Sweet. I love this day.

p.s. Dang. I wish someone could help me figure out why so many of my photos don't load when Blogger says they have...

Yay! You sound like you're doing so much better! (Not to mention the rest of your family...) Those pictures are SO cute. Lucas is starting to look so handsome! He's looking so much older. He's looking actually handsome, not just cute! And the one of her looks like her former (and current?) cute and non-spastic self. Glad to hear it :)

Congrats on the successful weigh-in! Eva is so darling--it's difficult to picture her arching her back and banging her head on the seat in front of you. (Though a case of serious constipation might do that to you!)

It sounds like Lucas and I a similar malady. A couple of weeks ago, I came down with a fever, followed by a sore throat, a stuffed up nose, and coughing. I'm just starting to get over it, but for the past 2 weeks I've been miserable. I haven't seen any squares, but I haven't been able to talk very well and I've missed a bunch of school. I'm glad Lucas is feeling better! I'm also glad that Eva is well and happy again!

Lucas seeing squares...now that's one for the history books. Your family seems to keep the pediatrician in business (or at least laughing). I'm glad he's doing better, and so happy that Eva is too. Poor baby, no wonder she's been upset.

Congrats to you on another week of weightloss! That's impressive, especially considering you were on vacation and had to deal with an unhappy baby (nothing like chocolate to console you). I'm so happy you were well rested this morning. I pray for that for you every night, but it seems that some nights it's just too much to ask for.

There is nothing better than waking up before your baby and getting some things done. My morning looked like it was going to start this way, but only got through half my breakfast and some of the newspaper.

I can't believe you had to go to the Dr. again! I'm glad things are looking up, though.

Finally, congratulations on your weight loss! Yay, yay, yay! And after a trip, too. Amazing.
