five for friday

Marc's sister Lisa was in town with her family last month and Eva was dying to have her cousin Dana over for a sleepover. Dana, never having done a sleepover, was a little hesitant, so she invited her big sister Olivia along. They came home with us on a Sunday night and stayed all day Monday, and Eva was devastated when Lisa picked them up. It's too bad they see each other so rarely!

Marc has been photographing still lifes around the house for a photography contest. At one point, he was standing on the kitchen table with his tripod, trying to get a shot. I can tell when he's scoping out potential photo ops. He is submitting some photos he took in Eva's room, vignettes of her toys in play; and she said that if he wins, it will be like she wins, too!

Eva had her friend Riley over to play and they ended up watching a movie about Golden Retrievers on Netflix. They kept clinging to each other during the "scary parts." I told them that if it was too scary, they should do something else, but they protested that that was what made it fun!

I would say that Lucas came home from Scout camp with at least a hundred mosquito bites. He is allergic to them, so they always get pretty bad (this photo doesn't really do it justice). They were clustered on his shoulders, elbows, knees, and neck, despite the fact that he was wearing pants and shirts with sleeves and had applied bug repellent! Also, one of the leaders who went with them didn't get a single bite. What the? (He's been back for almost 3 weeks and they are just now going away.)

I tried making naan. I really love naan, and since I was making Indian food one night, it seemed like the time to give it a go. I don't know that I'll do that again. It was quite a tedious process, involving a pizza stone and a spray bottle, cooking them one at a time, etc. and it still wasn't right. It seemed more like regular pita bread to me. Not worth it. Bummer.

You always seem to go the extra mile in the kitchen. Sometimes I feel inspired, but usually I'm lazy. Like yesterday I pulled rhodes rolls out of the freezer...{I know...gasp}.

Hey, would you or Marc have any suggestions on a camera purchase I want to make. I only want to spend enough to get something that will take great photo's, but not more than I need to?

Anything out there you guys love?

Maybe $1000-$2000 range, including a good lens?

Oo, how I hate bug bites. That is so sad that Lucas sustained so many!

And I love cousin sleepovers—I'm glad that Eva had a good time!

Scones, naan, pita bread, fry bread . . . it's funny how we can take the same ingredients and with different processes come up with something to suit the ethnic tastes. I'm inspired by your cooking. You do the hard recipes.

I also love the things you take the shots of in everyday life. You keep a watchful eye.

I'm on the same page with Jane.

You do the hard things.
You take great everyday photos.

wish I were there, everyday.

You're a champ for having the cousins for a sleepover, it's challenging when you're not familiar with their ways.

Marc's home still lifes are very cool, but they look extremely high effort!

I hate mosquito bites! Poor Landon is covered in them from scout camp too and looks diseased!

I love that you captured Marc doing his thing. That is as good as any of his photos!

Megan got a tick at Girls' Camp. I wonder if she would trade Lucas places? That is a crazy number of bites!

I know America's Test Kitchen has a recipe for naan. I've never tried it (kind of having given up on making it myself, too), but it's worth a shot. ATK has never led me wrong.

I feel the mosquito bite pain. I can't remember having this much trouble with them when I was younger. Now they leave scars as well! What the what?!
