a glorious afternoon

Jill offered to take my kids on Monday so that I could have a block of time to work on cleaning up my studio. She claimed it was hazardous because it was so hard to even walk in there (she was right). My automatic response is to say, "oh, that's okay, you don't need to do that!" But then I came to my senses and realized that that was really too good an offer to pass up.

I dropped the kids off around 11:30, and Max even decided to go, so I was left with the whole house to myself. Pure bliss.

I ordered Café Rio for lunch and stopped by Sonic for a big vanilla diet Coke. (A sad aside: as soon as I got on the freeway, my drink fell over and spilled all over my feet. I had to stop at the Sonic nearest my house for another because it was so sad.)

After I got home, I leisurely ate my lunch, blogged, did some laundry, and then went down to face the music:

Scary.

I finished listening to an audiobook I started quite awhile ago (the last time I worked in my studio!) as I cleaned and organized for about 3 hours.

There are (and probably always will be) still areas that I need to tackle, but I excavated my desk, put a lot of things away, and threw away a very big bag of trash.

And now you can walk in there with no impediments! (It has since been vacuumed.)

This was so good for my mental health.

Randy didn't bring the kids home until 7:00!

And then, Max made dinner. Oh, such a wonderful day.

Woohoo, woohoo, woohoo!! I'm so glad you were able to have some solitude at home AND get to spend some quality time in your studio!! Trying to walk in there last week truly felt risky, and more than anything made me want to give you time in there to regroup and organize. I totally understand the revolving messes and never-ending organizing that can go on in such a space, but being able to walk in there should be a given, not a luxury!

It makes me feel sooo much better to know that other people have messy creative spaces too.

Unfortunately I have 2 of them. My art studio is in an out building in the back yard (that one I don't mind being messy so much because no one but me ever goes in there.) The second one, which we call "The Room of Requirement" is the space that is supposed to be a formal dining room. It is only a dining room a couple of times a year. The rest of the time it is my paper and fabric mess and it is right by the front door. Yikes!

Congratulations on your new cleaner space.

I am so glad I am not the only one who lets their studio get in such disaray. I just wish my studio produced as many cute and wonderful things...
I want to be you when I grow up Michelle!

That looks yummy! What did Max make? I need to keep teaching my son to cook. I was telling him about Max the other day. Thanks for inspiring my son!

Nice work on the studio. It looks like you made tons of progress. I hate big jobs like that but it feel so good when it's done.

Hope you're all feeling better now and getting on with summer!

Max made that delish dinner??? Please-please-please let's draw up a betrothal contract between him & my Isabelle. Then he could make food like that for me on Mother's (in law) Day.

(Jill, if you're ever reading this, I know...I know...I've also spoken for Landon. I figure if one of them pans out, I'm good.)

So obnoxious.

I'm sure hoping that dinner dish will appear on your recipe blog. Yum! I love it that he is interested in cooking, and that doesn't look too average, to boot!

Sounds like a glorious day indeed. I love organizing days to my self, a rare occurrance.

WE just battled the boxes last night in the basement and I set up my little sewing studio of sorts. 4 machines all a glow for me and the girls.

Man, I love your studio!!! Messy, or orderly, I would love to sped some time in there just looking at all your fun supplies and treasures.

That noodle dish looks like something from the Waga-whatever cookbook Max got for Christmas. Did I tell you that we're getting one this summer? Well, it was supposed to open in March, but you know how these things go (or don't go)...
