an actual holiday

Yesterday -- contrary to the norm -- felt like an actual holiday around here. Usually we don't do much on those Monday holidays other than hang out at home. But yesterday, Charlotte and Emily came over, and instantly our hanging out at home was transformed into more of a party atmosphere! (Marc, however, still had to work to prepare for his classes today.)

Max and I combined several recipes we found online to come up with chocolate/coconut marshmallows. I liked them better than the plain vanilla ones.

The girls brought Killer Bunnies as a belated Christmas present for Max and Lucas, who were duly thrilled. They even taught me how to play. We also played Quiddler and Jill's Skip-Bo game (surely there is a better name for that).

Emily wisely brought her knitting. (There is always some downtime, you might as well take advantage!) And she brought me eight skeins of alpaca wool that Grandma sent! I'm so excited.

Charlotte and Emily plotting to bring Lucas down.

I made bread and this potato soup that I put in the crockpot in the morning. (I will be posting the crockpot recipes I've made lately on my recipe blog.)

I only wish they could have stayed longer.

After the kids went to bed, Marc and I watched two more exciting hours of 24. Funny how I was about to give up on that show about 3 seasons ago, but they have reeled me back in. (And how cute is Jack Bauer as a grandpa??)

I can't wait to get your crock-pot recipes Michelle. Your food is beautiful.

Amazing how fun loving people create a party wherever they go. What a fun day.

You're a 24 fan? I'm a closet one myself. I haven't ridden out a whole season for several years, but started again this year. Yes, yes, I agree,Grandpa-hood fits Jack nicely. I especially liked seeing that he does have a line that can be crossed (after what Renee did). You've probably heard these, but they still make me laugh:

Upon hearing that he was played by Kiefer Sutherland, Jack Bauer killed Sutherland. Jack Bauer gets played by no man.

Jack Bauer once arm wrestled Superman. The stipulations were the loser had to wear his underwear on the outside of his pants.

What color is Jack Bauer's blood? Trick question. Jack Bauer does not bleed.

Jack Bauer once called the Vice President "Mr. President", but realized his mistake and shot the President. Jack Bauer is never wrong.

Jack Bauer doesn't get busy signals. No one is too busy to talk to Jack Bauer.

Jack Bauer doesn't have a middle name because nothing gets between Jack Bauer.

Jack Bauer was never addicted to heroin. Heroin was addicted to Jack Bauer.

Those are hilarious Jane Payne! Reminds me of all the Chuck Norris jokes, but more likeable because they're not Chuck Norris jokes.
I'm jealous of your holiday!!! But in a good way that also means I'm happy for you. I would have loved to join the festivities with so many of my favorite people/family!
I could never get into Killer Bunnies...

How nice that your MLK Day turned into a holiday for real...mine did not!

We own Killer Bunnies but haven't played it in years, I forget how to play.

That potato soup looks so good!

I had so much fun being at your house with you and the boys! Going over to your house always feels this close to actually going home for me. And the plots concocted in KB were definitely exciting!

24 was so exciting! I'm hooked, once again. No surprise there. Bring on Jack.

I'm anxiously awaiting those crockpot recipes!

Killer Bunnies makes me crazy- I have played twice and both times a got my first bunny right before the game ended.

LOVE Jane Payne's Jack Bauer jokes and I also thought of the endless list of Chuck Norris jokes... we have had moments of disenchantment but always get sucked back in. He's a grandpa?! I thought he was dying. (That's what I get for waiting until a season ends.)

Now that sounds like a holiday for sure!

Like Jill, mine was not. An everyday, ordinary, work day well into the night. Dad took a holiday, however, and went to Costco without me! Drat.

GREAT DAY!

Are these girls students at the "Y" because I know a really cute guy living at Glenwood we could set one of them up with???

What a fun day. I love all of your culinary adventures with Max lately. I can only imagine that there are hoards of mothers out there who would love to spend time like that with their teenage sons.
