a brief emotional chronology

Tuesday 13:00 -- Relieved. whew! We made it, and with very minimal sickness!

13:30 -- Frustrated. This place is a disaster. We can't put anything away without first cleaning its destination.

23:45 -- Relieved. There is still much to do, we don't have a top sheet, and our bed is pretty uncomfortable, but at least we're going to sleep!

Wednesday 01:00 -- Frustrated. Eva is awake. I don't think she ever went to sleep. Now she is crying and disturbing everyone.

05:30 -- Relieved. Eva is finally asleep. Now I can go back to bed.

08:00 -- Frustrated. Eva is awake. (for the day?)

08:15 -- Doubtful. I've made a huge mistake. I can't do this.

08:30 -- Relieved. Eva is asleep on the floor! I am going back to bed.

11:00 -- Disbelief. All the kids are sleeping?! I drift off again.

12:30 -- Fearful. I'm up, but I don't think I want to be here.

13:30 -- Hopeful. Now that I am showered and clean and dressed, I might be able to face this situation.

14:30 -- Surprised. My period started. Ohhhhhh.

15:30 -- Exhilarated. I'm completely unpacked, the sinks are clean, the toilet is clean, I cleared room in the closet, I found space for some of the suitcases, I organized the kitchen. Maybe I can do this!

17:30 -- Relaxed. Watching the kids at the park. Yeah, this is kind of fun.

11:45 -- Anxious. Eva is crying, still awake. Not again...

That definitely fits under "jet lag is a real drag!"
I'm glad you posted this though - for you to look back on one day, of course, but also for us "eavesdroppers." I know it made me realize that you jetting off to Paris isn't as glamorous as I thought it was.
Luci was my child who did not sleep and would wake up for the day at 3:45 or 4 and then not nap. My mom always said bright children require less sleep but that was little consolation while I was in the throes of sleep deprivation for almost 3 years! Now that she's 8 she does sleep though and at least she's old enough to grab a book if not.

It will get better! And then one morning you'll wake up and realize that everyone slept through the night, and you're not exhausted and that you get to live in Paris for months and months.

How does the apartment look with all of the work that's been done to it? Did some of that work include new furniture? ;)

Seriously, I do hope that the situation improves soon, or at least you can get a good nap.

"The safety and effectiveness of Ambien have not been established in children." So tempted to start a non-clinical trial.

I say start the clinical trial!!

I am hoping that the jet lag and new time zone will some how reset Eva's sleep cycle (though really does she have one?) so that you will all be able to get some sleep before she goes off to college.

You're in Paris!!!!! When will the photos be coming??

Also, I think it would be helpful if you added one of those clock widgets with Paris time to your sidebar because I'm always a mess trying to figure out what time it is there for you.

It's all about me you know.

wow what a rollercoaster but I hopefully as the next few days unfold everyone will settle in and you will have that moment of WOW, we are actually in Paris!

3:45—She is finally asleep!

It's somehow comforting to know that even a life in Paris has its emotional roller coasters. I am so glad you are already blogging - I thought we'd have to wait much longer!

Are you sure you want my children and very intense husband adding to this? How about it I bring midol for you and Nyquil for Eva?

I love the time widget idea- I've been trying to figure out what time here you might be posting there...

LOVE Marc's comments- oh dear, I am praying for you all!

I love most how you captured the range of emotions you felt- it would be very overwhelming to do what you are doing! And it is a good does of reality for those of us who see your opportunity to live in Paris as dreamy and fantastic. Even in Paris there are beds to make and toilets to scrub!

You can do this though. And you will have some great memories.

I don't know how you do it, how you've done all these years, how you'll continue to do it. You are a rock star.

I'm in Texas right now with my sister and her three children. I told her tonight that tomorrow we're putting Nyquil in those sippy cups. Dope that baby, baby. Dope. that. baby.

:)

I'm overwhelmed just reading your post. Oh sleeping issues can get me down so fast. I hope the body clock adjusts for Eva, that would be a huge blessing! I'm always so much nicer with sleep.

Hooray for getting all that cleaned up. So sad that there is still laundry and toilets in Paris. It should all just go away, ha.

I love the idea of a chronological post. I just wish for your sake that there were more entries about sleeping!

Hopefully Eva will get her internal clock on Paris time soon!

I shouldn't laugh at your pain, but this was hilarious. And Marc adding his comments- genius.

I'm all for trying a clinical trial or.. if you know it won't do the opposite maybe she is allergic to Paris and needs a little Benadryl.

Thank you for the clock widget!! I know it shouldn't be that hard to calculate 8 hours ahead, but it's like I need confirmation that my math is correct or something. You know I'm numerically impaired!

How's the beret wearing profile picture coming along?

I hope it gets better-

Love the clock, very helpful for my imagination-

I'm officially stalking your blog for posts...no pressure.

I admit this is hard for me to imagine you in Paris feeling like you made a mistake, but I can understand. It's taking you quite some time to get there.

This post is such a great confirmation of how our emotions jump around so erratically.

You can do this! Just think of how unpacked you are, the cleanness, and by all means go find some nyquil...for her.

jenn said...

LOVE the clock. LOVE it.
I'm stalking too.
Miss you.

I hope the sleep woes and overwhelmed feelings give way to Paris joy soon!
