ten

Today is Lucas's tenth birthday. Ten! (I looked back at last year's post about his birthday and saw that he was sick. I was about to say at least he wasn't sick this year, but he did get sick on Tuesday and is now still recovering. What is with this disturbing trend?)

He knew just how he wanted his birthday to be -- he needed soft pants to sleep in, and Reese's Puffs for breakfast. He's planned out his ideal birthday dinner for the family party on Sunday. And he could hardly wait for everyone to wake up so he could open his presents.

Before opening each one, he asks if it is in a box that shows what is inside. If the answer is yes, he opens it with his eyes closed.

He got the skateboard he's been wanting from Grandma Susan and Grandpa Fred! Also an iTunes card, Charleston Chews, gum, and the biggest musical card we've ever seen.

From Mom and Dad: a huge Nerf gun, an electronic dart board, a new DS game, an iTunes card.
From Max: SkipBo and $10.
From Eva: extra Nerf gun darts.
From Jessie: $10.

He got a check from Grandpa Lou and used it to buy a used GameCube, before his birthday. (It's ironic, because we used to have a GameCube but took it to D.I. a year or two ago when we got the Wii.) Marc let him bring up the old t.v. we had in the downstairs so he could have a sweet gaming set up right in his room, just like Landon. He could not be more thrilled.

Lucas was able to have his friend party right on his birthday this year. He chose to go bowling at the BYU games center and then to the Creamery afterwards.

It seems a good time was had by all. It was SO much better than last year's party, when I was about to swear off birthday parties for good. The boys only came back to our house to open presents and then I took them home before they could get too crazy.

Other gifts received: a Bionicle, $10 from two different guests (it seems the perfect gift for a 10-year-old), a BYU baseball cap and tiny football, another huge Nerf gun, a clever "sack lunch" (complete with m&m sandwich, fake juice box and milk money), and another DS game from Landon. The kid seriously scored.

I hope you had a great birthday, Lucas! I love you.

That's too funny that he closed his eyes while opening the presents! I understand wanting to prolong the birthday anticipation though, so maybe I should try that next technique next year.

Sounds like a birthday to remember. One that he deserves...
Did I hear that he requested broccoli for his birthday dinner?

Again, your family gives the best gifts! Your kids are so multifaceted, and I love seeing what people buy for them.

That he closes his eyes for certain presents is adorable. I love it when people savor the gift opening process.

Jake was looking over my shoulder when I pulled up your post...he's been badgering me for a skateboard for like...EVER! After seeing Lucas's fabulous new skateboard, I've agreed to take him to the store tomorrow to buy one with his own money...

He's such a cute kid...I told your dad recently that Lucas looks like him...do you see the resemblence? (minus the gray hair, of course) :)
