Last night right before bed, Eva had a little meltdown in which she said she didn't want to have a birthday party. And then I nearly had a meltdown at the thought of the party that I have been working to pull off not even being wanted.
This morning I found this pep talk that Marc left for me on the desktop:
Michelle: READ ME....
The Party Prep Affirmation page.....
Since no matter what, I’m sure it will be a hectic day, here is why it is worth it:
[scene to replay in head as needed, best read with the voice of a Grey’s Anatomy character]
The reason you are doing this party. The reason you are doing this party with perfectly packaged gift bags, pretty pink invitations, pink cupcakes to be served on pink plates, and pink napkins to wipe off pink-lemonade mustaches...The reason you are doing this party is because you are the person who does a party with perfectly packaged gift bags, pretty pink invitations, pink cupcakes to be served on pink plates, and pink napkins to wipe off pink-lemonade mustaches. The reason you are doing this party is because you are that person. You are that person...
And even if Eva gets overwhelmed, even if she screams because another girl claims to like pink the most, even if Eva throws a tantrum until her face matches the pink decor, even if she screams while in the background Max vomits and Lucas bangs on his bunk bed for room service...it will still be worth it because Eva will look back on that party one day and she will be glad that you were the person who gave her a birthday with perfectly packaged gift bags, pretty pink invitations, pink cupcakes served on pink plates, and pink napkins to wipe off pink-lemonade mustaches. So, even when it doesn’t feel like it’s worth it, it is, because you are that person.
[And....scene.]
Thanks, babe. It helped, a little. And at least I started off this crazy day with a laugh!

Fabulous! It's wonderful that he knows you so well. Good luck with the party!
I hope it all goes well. Our daughter left her 3rd birthday because we sang.
Love the note- IT was cracking me up. I am sure it was fun to read first thing this morning!
Oh, to be known. The greatest gift of all.
I really hope all goes well, and I really hope you have someone there who can shoot some video because it is sure to be entertaining! Good luck!
P.S. I have turned my house upside (almost literally), have sore muscles and many bruises. Who knew cleaning could be so brutal?
Your husband is ridiculously sweet. I would have been crying at the end of his little pep-talk.
Good luck.
Wow - his note even made me feel better. Do you think he would be willing to write scenes like that for people he doesn't even know - that was awesome.
I find this oh so romantic Michelle.
I love the pep talk! I remember staying up until 2 am before Nicole's 4th birthday party to sew 15 princess skirts - I think she still remembers that party...hmmm.
Oh, that's just funny. I can't wait to hear about how the party goes.
And you will never regret doing this for Eva, because someday she will look back on it and it will mean so much to her. Maybe not today, or tomorrow, but someday!
What a guy!--
I can't imagine my husband doing that...(even though when he does take the high road on things, I always get irritated)
Hope it was a happy day! I love the note from your husband. I agree with April, to be KNOWN is a wonderful blessing!!! What a great note (I would save that for your little Eva! She will love to have that later!)
Have fun at Women's conference!
I hope you are enjoying some beautiful (pink) memories and sitting with your feet up right about now.
(Actually I really hope you are uploading pictures and blogging about the pink cupcakes as I type this, but that is selfish of me)
That was so sweet--way better than a typical love note. The party sounds awesome, I want to be there!
A little encouragment is always appreciated! I hope it will be a really good pink day for all.
p.s.
I can't wait to read about the party results with photo docs. It always makes me feel like I was attending, which I would really like to do!
wishing you success!
What a sweet note! I'm so glad you could wake up and read this encouraging note. I hope the party went well!
what a great note- and i agree- so sweet that he knows you so well. and that he appreciates your talents!!!
good luck with this party!!! i think it's amazing!
ok, i officially think your husband is darling. what an awesome thing to do. my hubby, while great, is not much of a letter writer. i would LOVE to wake up to a note like this.
and he's right by the way, you ARE that person. :)
and by the way, my narrator was mcdreamy all the way.
you are that person, and all your family and friends and readers love you for it.
You have an amazing hubby. The party will be wonderful. Relax and enjoy the moment. :)
It's always a good thing to start any day--let alone a crazy day--off with a laugh! I hope the party went well and can't wait to read all about it.
Loved the pep talk from Marc!
I'm glad to hear from you that the party was successful! How could it not be perfect with the perfectly packaged party favors, pink cupcakes, and everything else perfectly pink??
