more Eva-isms

Eva is sick -- again. She got over her croup finally and was healthy for about 3 days. Now, a high fever! I put her to bed at 8:30 and I can hear her in her bed singing (it's 10:20) -- what the? But at least she's not crying! Anyway, I'm frustrated and so, in an attempt to make myself feel better, I'm focusing on the positive, the things she's been doing to make me laugh:

She took some money out of her piggybank, which is usually just a plaything, and wanted to go buy something. In fact, desperately wanted to go buy something. I wanted to go to Roberts, so I told her she pick out something there. She chose glitter crayons and was absolutely giddy about her first ever purchase. The cashier was cute with her and asked her how she was doing. She said, "We measured me, and I am 37 inches!"

She was questioning whether her aqua shirt with polka dots really matched her green pants. I said, "see, look, your shirt has green dots on it," to which she replied, "those aren't green! Those are asparagus!"

One of her favorite things to say of late is that, "everything hurts." I was concerned at first -- does she have the flu? Is she achy? But she says it so frequently that now I think it might just be a ploy for attention. She told me her favorite refrain while bathing, and when I pressed her for particulars, she said, "my knees, my legs, my hips..." I laughingly asked her if she knew where her hips were, and she admitted that she did not. Hmmmm....

Recently we passed the Jordan River temple. After admiring it, she informed me that she would be getting married in that temple. Also that she would have two babies, a girl who would love pink, and a boy who would love orange. Huh. I genuinely do not remember ever thinking about getting married and having kids when I was a girl.

On Saturday, between conference sessions, she was playing with Lucas. (She's obsessed with playing with Lucas, and counts down the hours until he comes home from school.) Apparently, he did not share her vision of the game, because she was getting more and more upset. When I tried to intervene, she said, "Mom! He's doing everything wrong!" Poor guy. He really didn't know he was doing everything wrong. I wonder how many men in her life will receive such censure?

She sings constantly. Mostly she makes up songs as a running narrative to whatever she is seeing or doing. Some have improvised tunes, and others are to familiar tunes such as "Are You Sleeping" or "Twinkle Twinkle". Yesterday, however, she was singing something about "it's too late to apologize" and Marc thought it sounded familiar. I have no idea what that was about.

Today she climbed in the laundry basket (full of dirty clothes) and wanted me to carry her downstairs. I explained that, while I had been known to do that a few times when she and her brothers were tiny babies, I could no longer carry her and the basket full of clothes because she was now too heavy. I politely asked her to climb out. She got angry with me and refused to budge. I lifted her out and told her she was not being very obedient. When I came back upstairs after sorting the laundry, she told me she was sorry and gave me a big hug! That might very well have been her first spontaneous apology ever. I guess it's not too late to apologize after all!

Never too late, indeed! I'm going to try to remember that myself.

Those Eva-isms are a delight and a great end to my day. Thank you!

Eva is a crack up. That is so funny about her having a girl who will like pink and a boy who will like orange.

Livy is always singing too. She does the same thing as Eva. You can always tell how she is feeling or what is bothering her when she sings.

the song is Apologize by One Republic. It is indeed catchy (in fact, since reading that it has been running through my mind!!)

She's such a cutie!!

I love that song! (Apologize).

Eva is cute...I have to do the same thing sometimes (focus on their cuteness) so that I don't turn into a wicked mother with my children! :)

Hope she feels better soon...

Every one needs a little Eva in their life. She is adorable. I used to sing a running narrative as I went about my day when I was little. I do remember some of it but mostly I get teased by my older cousins because they thought it was so funny. She will love reading this one day.

We've had the raging fever here with Dane on the couch and not eating squat for 2 days. I'm over it. Hope she feels better soon.

She sounds utterly delightful. Do you have a video of her singing yet. I want to hear.

I use to carry my kids in the laundry basket too.

Wow, she's a handful. So bright and full of energy. I agree with Amy, where's the video of her singing? I love it when my girls sing.

so small and already apologizing for disobedience! whoo hoo! i'm glad you documented that, those kinds of moments seem to be few and far between as they get older and more sassy!

I loved reading this.... the stuff little kids say is one of my favorite things. (I only have slight pangs of envy that such a record of my little ones doesnt' exist.)

Eva is hilarious and unbelievable savvy for one her size. I think I may go reread, it lifts my spirits to laugh (with you).

Could a baby girl in polka dots be any cuter?

Eva is an endless supply of hilarious kid-speak. The combination of her creativity and articulation are fruitful.
