Wonderful Wednesday!

Today was our second Wonderful Wednesday, and it was indeed wonderful.

I was feeling a bit paralyzed by the possibilities, but I just went with it, and I think I crammed a lot of good stuff in.

First I went to Barnes & Noble to browse at my leisure and use the gift card that Michelle gave me for Christmas. I took a large selection of potential books from my Goodreads to-read list, but that was pretty much a bust (can you believe they didn't have any of them?). I looked at a lot of knitting and sewing books, but didn't find anything that I had to have. Finally I decided to get some classics that I've been wanting to read. I got one of their scrumptious sugar cookies before I left:

Next, I went to Blockbuster to use a coupon I had for a free rental. Jessie has been trying to get me to watch Chuck, so I got the first disc of season 1.

Roberts was my next stop -- I wanted to pick up some cotton yarn.

Lastly, I went through Taco Hell (a guilty pleasure) for some lunch. (Jill brought me a Sonic diet Coke when she picked up Eva, oh happy day!)

I came home and settled in to eat and watch Chuck. I loved the pilot, but the second episode was a bit too slapstick for me. I'll see how I feel after episodes 3 & 4.

I kept myself on a strict Advil schedule (cramps).

After I finished my lunch, I picked up my knitting to practice some more. (Oh! I forgot to mention that Hannah came over on Monday to teach me the fundamentals of knitting! She came at 9:00, before Mya's dentist appointment, and showed me what to do amidst near-constant kid interruptions. She rocks.)

It's about 3-4 times as long now and I'm definitely feeling more comfortable. Lucas cannot figure out why I'm just knitting, not making an actual project... I think he's gunning for some fingerless gloves.

I took a break from knitting to eat this amazing ice cream that Hannah brought me last week! I've been saving it for a time when Eva was gone and I could just enjoy it. It's homemade burnt sugar ice cream, and I think she said it was her grandmother's recipe. Fabulous.

I had to run over to Max's school at one point for a parent-teacher conference. Not my first choice, but whatever.

I made a recipe of my grandma's French bread (got the recipe from her while talking on the phone yesterday). Lucas was thrilled, of course, he's our starchatarian.

I also did a couple of loads of laundry, prepped some recipes for my Laurels, and gathered ingredients for our cooking activity tonight.

Best of all, I was able to sleep through the night last night, so I wasn't tired and fighting the urge to take a nap!

Eva seems to have had a great day playing with Ashley at Jill's house and I had a great day playing by myself! Thanks for everything, Jill.

Remember the quote, "You can tell a man by what he does in his spare time" or something like that? Well, your day tells that you love to learn, love to create, love to enjoy, love to be.

What a fun-filled day Michelle. I'm glad you got to do so many enjoyable things. What a gift that Jill has given you-- a day to do things you enjoy.

This sounds like a marvelous day! I LOVE Jude the Obscure. I'm interested to hear what you think. I just finished reading War and Peace over the weekend--I really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it with the caveat that you need solid reading stamina (which, without a doubt, you have).

I LOVE Chuck. It's seriously one of my favorite shows (not that that says a lot because I watch a lot of TV anyway). I hope you like it!

What a wonderful day!!! Hooray for Jill!

I haven't read any of those books, I am so not up to snuff with classics.

Taco Hell is a guilty pleasure for me as well, one of the only fast food ones.

Your knitting looks WONDERFUL! I left feeling like with the girls it may have been more of a frustrating lesson than anything- I am so glad you picked those needles back up. Glad you liked the ice cream too.

I have never seen Chuck. Linc likes it, I just keep forgetting about it. Isn't watching a show in the middle of the day so pleasant?

Will you post the bread recipe some time? I need a tried and true french bread recipe.

Oh happy day is right!--
I would have been content with just a trip to Barnes and Noble--

Taco Hell Bell is definately one of life's guilty pleasures...how fun that you got to watch some shows without a little person nagging that she wants to watch her shows. (I swear, if only they had a ticker on the bottom of Dora the Explorer, I'd be totally up to speed with what's going on in the world!)

Learning how to knit is on my list of things to do this year...I also want to learn how to do french knots...I think it's also called candle wicking...

I can almost smell that bread!

I'm so glad you weren't so paralyzed by the possibilities that you ended up feeling like it was a bust. I have done that before and it's ridiculous.

This sounds and looks like such a good day. I love the thought of you wandering around Barnes and Noble by yourself without a care in the world, and I really love it that you bought me one of those fabulous cookies!

Thank you for the bread and the cookie!

So much to comment on. I sincerely believe that Jill has given you the best gift possible. And I hope you do make the most of it! I recently read Jude the Obscure. It was dark, yes, but riveting in its own way. I think I preferred Far From the Madding Crowd. The bread looks divine. And I have to admit to loving the slapstick nature of Chuck. I do enjoy that show.

It sounds like a very wonderful Wednesday. My days are always so staccatoed that I can't seem to accomplish anything. Especially something like baking a loaf of bread! (Am I wrong in thinking that's the kind of thing that takes all day long?)

Anyway, sounds like a restorative type of day. Lucky girl!

I agree that Jill's gift is the BEST! Sounds like you had a great day and productive at the same time.

I've been thinking about making that bread of Grandmas, and she told me she had a lovely visit with you too!

So many good things in one day... I love browsing Barnes and Noble, but usually I have kids in tow. Homemade ice cream by Hannah- divine, I am sure. Chuck is addictive. Get ready.

Ah, what a wonderful Wednesday!
