domesticity

In the last week or so, I've been yearning for domesticity (not really a stretch for me, but still). Yearning. I learned to knit. And now I'm a little bit obsessed. Last night, after putting Eva to bed, I was so anxious to sit down and watch Chuck with my boys and knit that I forgot to eat dinner! Seriously. I'm just not one to forget to eat. I realized it only later when I was on my way to bed.

I'm relearning how to crochet. This will no doubt tickle my mother to no end, as I used to crochet as a girl. When I didn't have anything else to do, I would say, "well, I guess I'll turn to crochet." I certainly can't say that I don't have anything else to do, but what can I say? I can't fight the yearning. I blame blogging, actually. Seeing so many friends making cool things is making me want to dive in.

Eva and I made these yesterday. Oh yeah, baby.

Today I cleaned out the boys' clothes and weeded out a ton of stuff. Max had 6 pairs of jeans in his drawer that were too small -- no wonder he couldn't fit his clothes in there!

And for those of you who asked, here are the recipes for:

Now, off to (hopefully) finish my book!

I could stay here in domestic bliss forever, leaving just to buy groceries. And possibly more yarn.

(Who knows? Maybe someday I will even learn to like ironing! Probably not, but that's for you, Grandma. And Mom. And Denise.)

You're always domestic, so it's funny to me to think of you being even more so than usual.

I love homemaking things with a passion, too, Michelle. I love seeing what you do with your domestic talents and appreciate you sharing them with us.

What are you crocheting and knitting? I've never made more than hot pads, pot scrubbers or a leper bandage (my level is oh-so-single-chained-stitched).

Wait! I just remembered. I crocheted a pillow top once, but still oh-so-single-chained-simple.

I'm a very domestic person as well!
I thrive in being a homemaker...

Your bread looks marvelous! Your cookies look marvelous! And your banner is fabulous!--A fresh burst of PINK! Just what the doctor ordered!

I am so there with you Michelle. Like I could copy and paste this post. I want to re-learn to crochet. Nothing is left in my brain from it. I have it on my list for this year- so can I wait for you to figure it out and then invite you over for a lesson? And quilting? I will teach you to sew after I learn this month...and provide ice cream.

Those cookies look crazy good. This posts is all kinda of good.

I love your banner!

Well, I'm glad that finally someone in my direct line of linage can understand (even if it's just for a moment....) forgetting to eat! Now, I know for sure that that can happen to others.

The cookies look divine, but not good for pointwatching! The breads are making my mouth water. I see that as you "turn to crochet" you are turning back the clock to your youth! All good.

Great new banner.

Have you started wearing a housecoat yet? Good luck with the knitting. I've got a bag of needles for myself AND Erin, plus a How to Knit book and wool sitting in a bag here, waiting for me to arrange tutorials for both of us courtesy of one of our church's Extreme Knitting Group ladies! (The bread is soooo speaking to me! Eat me! Eat me!)

Of course I share your love of domesticity and strive to perfect it. If you spend all your time at home, you better learn to make it a haven!
So- does this mean that you LIKE CHuck?? Like I said, you best be.

Yeah, that was me.

I hear you with the knitting. After dinner all I can think about is getting the kids down so I can sit and knit. It's obsessive.

Yours rolls are so beautifully shaped!

I love being a house-mommy :) Best role ever. EVER! I wish i had your knack for domesticity. I love running my home, I love the routines of making things go smoothly, I love the smell of TIDE!!!!...but I don't have the knack that makes it homey.

I am making that bread as soon as ever may be.

This post is making me want to eat. Cookies and fresh bread/rolls, dangerous for me but oh so good. I've always liked making things and feeling domestic. You take things to a new level and totally inspire me. Thanks!

Love, love the new banner.

Yarn is so much fun! Knitting and crocheting can be so addicting. They have some of the cutest mary jane patterns for little girls and mom's too on etsy!

oooooh! those COOKIES!!!!!!!!

i love that you are domestic. this is one of my biggest downfalls. i like to bake, but i fear that's where my domesticity may end. and it's terrible, because i'd like to do more of it, but i just tend not to be good at it!

knitting is one of my heart's greatest desires. i've tried it once...not a pretty experience. i need a patient teacher, i think...

First of all, I detest ironing. I am so with you on that one. I don't ever plan to like it. Ever.

Secondly, thanks for the recipes! I have been craving homemade rolls today and I think I will go and make some after seeing this post. My mouth is watering.

Congrats on your domestic energy. I think it's a Spring thing, don't you?

I love that you're knitting and crocheting and that you just decided it was time to learn. I enjoy it as well and find it's the perfect thing to do while watching tv or listening to a book.

Thanks for the recipes. The rolls look divine.
