This is a truly awful photo I snapped tonight. But it really does represent what is so often going on behind me: all the boys in my house playing video games. They do it every chance they get, including a few rounds most nights before bedtime. I used to enjoy video games, back in the day. I liked Pac-Man, Frogger, Missile Command... but the games they have these days -- I can't even figure out what is going on! It is serious sensory overload -- I can't even stay in the same room! They used to try to get me to play. Ha. They thought when they got the Wii that I would not be able to resist how fun it is to stand and play baseball or tennis or bowling. Um, sorry, but I just did not find it to be fun. None of them can understand that I would rather be doing anything else, and that includes cleaning the kitchen or folding the laundry! I will occasionally indulge them with a game of Mario Party (even though I always lose). Now that we have the American Idol game, I have found one that is actually enjoyable! But I still always lose, dang it, and I'm a pretty good singer!
I keep thinking they're going to get tired of it, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen anytime soon... I'll tell you, though, I have to keep the eyes in the back of my head focused on these guys. If I didn't, they might just stay there all day.

You are a good sport to play at all. I am not a video game fan either. I think it is a boy thing. I will play some old school, original Nintendo games every couple of years. Namely, Mario Brothers (the origional) and Bubble Bobble. the things we do for love.
cool post...although i DON'T think I would be willing to do that much playing, but i fear, this is something that will come to my house sooner or later....so it is good to know what to expect....
I loved frogger and pong! I remember when we got the original Nintendo and my sister and I played Mario Brothers until our thumbs hurt. It was 64.00 and My sister, brother and I each had to earn 16.00 of it and my parents paid the other 16.00. Those were the days!
My kids are too young for video games, but when I am at friends' where they are being played, its the noise! It is sensory overload for me too! I think I will make them do headphones!
I remember Frogger. I loved that game. Not too much of a video gamer myself and with three girls it has pretty much been a non-event, but there is a boy now who is old enough to know. So we have just entered the video game world. We only have the wii though. I am sure it will become more as he gets older.
I love the old Atari games! They were so fun! I liked Q-Bert. You know you can go online and play them still. Just do a search for your favorites and you can find them. They're harder to find for the Mac, but they're there. Especially Frogger.
I actually have a tip for those karaoke games--don't look at the screen if you can help it at all. Take quick glances at the words, but don't look at the little meter that tells you if you're singing on key. It will mess you up every time! I do way better when I don't look at the TV. I sing with my eyes closed!
I don't do video games either... luckily Jimmy doesn't care for them... it could have been a deal breaker I found out about too late. I'm kidding, sort of.
At least laundry and cleaning beat out a few things in life.
that's saying a lot to want to clean your kitchen or do laundry instead of play! i was a total pacman and frogger girl myself. and yes, the games are much different now.
I totally understand what you mean about the nose- sometimes it is just too much!
I still have no idea what to do for this SPT. You did a good job though and it's fun to see a different view of the house.
I can't figure out which way is up and which way is down- When I try to walk straight ahead, I go diagonally left... I leave the room too! Boys and their toys.
What is it with boys and games? I think Daniel would play Wii or computer games all day if I would let him!
I do have to admit that I have kind of enjoyed playing our Wii. I didn't think I would care for it at all, but I think it's kind of fun. Weird.
a few years ago, matty got an xbox, and we picked up a "chicken little" game for jack. i gave it the old college try, but after three or four nights of TOTAL INSOMNIA from the stress of it all, i gave up video games cold turkey.
sensory overload, indeed!!
One of my boys loves playing the Wii more than anything & would play all day long if he could.. But I make them play outside to get some exercise...
I tried Guitar hero & totally bombed at it.. I agree it's a boy thing
I am kind of happy my husband isn't into them either. I think if he was he could get obsessive.
We'd been a video game free family up until this past Christmas. Keith wanted to get the girls a Wii, which I thought was silly because they didn't even know what one was. But, he got up at the crack of dawn on Black Friday and got one. It turned out that they totally loved it. I do bowl with them, but that's about the extent of my video gaming. They wonder why I don't play it all day while they are gone at school.
I totally agree about the games. It takes true love to stop what you're doing and play just for the sake of spending some QT with the kids.
Love how the photo represents what is really going on behind you.
I think I could really get into video games if it were the old Nintendo or Atari games I loved as a kid. They are just to high tech for me these days...what happened to simple.
I'll consider myself warned. We are just starting a family work/save plan for a Wii.
Great shot! Video games stress me out sometimes- I get sweaty palms and just my hands are achy after playing some of the more intense ones. I married a total gamer and I enjoy doing my own thing while he does his. I know my girls are going to get into it- Mya loves her leapfrog "computer" games.
I do love to play board games on our xbox 360 though- which really aren't video games I suppose. But the system gets used more and that is a plus!
....And then there is me, who spent four hours this afternoon "beating" a game I've been playing for a while on our XBOX 360.
Mark and I actually have to divvy up our video game time, because we both have games that we play (single player games). Of course, we play together too - nothing like a Rock Band date night :)
At least I'm comfortable and in fact, embrace the terms "nerd" and "geek" for myself :)
